CHINAsia Update family wishes its discerning readers a Happy New Year, 2010, and also very much wishes them,
their families and all others safety from natural calamities like earthquake.
To remain safe and unhurt we have to remain prepared for the next natural calamity. The
majority of us are not prepared to survive on our own overnight, let alone during a major
disaster. We are too accustomed to life with electricity and phones available. We cannot
even survive without a cell phone with us at all times. We need to be seriously prepared
for any calamity, disaster or being lost in the woods, know what to do and how to survive
on our own . Being prepared can reduce fear, anxiety and loss.
We need to know where to seek shelter if need be and what the safest route to get there is.
Make sure everyone in the household knows where to find safe shelter.
Set up an evacuation plan not only for you house but from your neighborhood. Establish a meeting place for all your
family members. This will save time and confusion looking for each other. Practice disaster plans often enough.
Practice your evacuation plans on a regular basis, at least twice a year. Having the entire family involved will save
lives.
Don’t try to do everything on your own but be prepared to be self-sufficient. Above all remain calm and patient.
Wish you a safe 2010. Once again a Happy New Year.
