One valuable lesson that I have learnt from the novel is that even if we fall on hard times, we must
not steal.
- When the weather became cold, Mother could not afford to buy enough coal to heat up the house.
- Peter felt that since he should do something to help his family.
- He had noticed a heap of coal at the station yard and thought of a way to steal it.
- Peter successfully stole some coal a few times.
- He was soon caught by Station Master but let go with a warning.
- Peter promise not to steal again.

- A big rock also began to move and the the hill collided.

The children did not able to go to school anymore and they learned with mother.
Life was difficult for the children without Father around.
They were sad but soon got used to it.
They learned to face whatever crisis and difficulties with determination, patience and bravery.
