Say what? If that's the case, somebody had better inform all those noncelibates who attend
retreats that they're wasting their time.
And perhaps the retreat organizers are violating the fourth precept by not explaining that
jhana is out of the question for these folks.

Jhana is in fact the reason why sensual pleasures lose their appeal; attaining jhana is in fact
an essential step in leaving sensuality behind, not a result of having already left it but a
result of having set it aside for an appropriate amount of time in one's own case.
Seclusion from sensual pleasures is a condition to bring about the cessation of greed and
hate, and sensuality generally. Attaining jhana is precisely what makes sensual pleasures lose
their final appeal.
