Write an essay on modern and traditional societies
Within the last century the role of traditional values among society has been changed as never
before. As far as I am concerned these changes are to a great extent negative.
To begin with, modern society don't need traditional values at all. Members of modern society
live in a totally different environment, where there is no room for fostering traditional values. Traditions
and customs have been forgotten for the sake of modern technology and gadgets.
Secondly, the decreasing role of traditional values are closely connected with the pace of today
living. For many of us, it is extremely hard to find some spare time for entertainment. No wonder that
we couldn't find time for cultivating traditions.
Thirdly, traditional values are irrelevant to modern society as modern society is less and less
interested in religIous practices, which we can see by decreasing number of people attending regularly to
church. Our faith is connected with traditions and customs.
In contrast, actually there is some hope for cultivating traditional values in the elderly, who are
more conservative and therefore closer connected with tradition. The question is that, whether we can
treat them as a modern society or not.
Taking these points into consideration, I would say that in modern society, within the world of
intermingled cultures and juxtaposed nations there is barely a place for traditional values. In my opinion
I wouldn't exaggerated if I say that this situation won't change for the better during iminent years.
A member of a traditional society would feel as though there are many advantages of his or her
type of society as opposed to modern society. A member of a traditional society would feel as though
modern society has quite a few flaws. Traditional society focuses more towards the improvement of
society as a whole rather than focusing on self and personal gain. There are many comparisons between
the two societies that can be made that show the differences in beliefs held by each society. By
comparing the economies, material cultures, and lifestyles of both societies it is easy to see why a
member of traditional society would believe that his or her society has an advantage over modern
societies. The economy of a traditional society is completely dissimilar to that of modern society. For
example, in a traditional society, production is meant for use as opposed to modern society producing for

growth and monetary gain. A member of traditional society would be opposed to producing for profit
growth because in traditional society the main reasons for production were use and subsistence. Being
that that they produced to survive there simply wouldnt have been a need for all of the excess that
modern society produces in order to increase profits. For example, the traditional society worked
together to produce the crops or goods that they needed in order to survive as a whole. In modern society
people produce in order to get ahead of the group and gain something over someone on individual level.
In a traditional society they thought that having something that others did not would lead to problems
and cause the society as a whole to take a step back because they did things as a group and in order for
that to work the common goal must be to focus on the advancement of society as a whole. In traditional
societies, materials were seen as resources to help with the survival of the society as a whole. In modern
societies resources are not always used for social ends.
As a result of globalization some cultures and traditions are been lost. When change emerges in
such a way that it condemns your own traditions viewing them as old and stale, such situations give rise
to conflicts like in the case of Michael Obi. The fact that both modern methods and traditional ways are
both important and valuable for our community cannot be over emphasized. What is it about tradition
that makes it so important to people, that even as the respond to change they still don't want to part with
it? We usually think of traditions as something that is passed down through the generations, they can
also be started again by doing the same thing for three years in a row to positive emotions and feelings
of love. Traditions today are our most prized possessions that stay the same it reminds and links us to
our past, our roots, and our family. Eventually as we yield to change we can only come to the realization
that modern methods and traditions are both important to us, and with the help of our knowledge and
experience we have gained over the years we can confidently say that a common ground can be
established on which modernity and tradition can coexist in such a way that it benefits the parties
involved.
