Drive Test Procedures

1.Coverage Test
Objective
The objective of this test is to check if there's swapped feeders and if the Radio Units and
Antennae are radiating as supposed to be.
Coverage Test radio parameters :
Radio Parameters

Remarks

RSRP

reference Signal Radio Power, the power of the UE received.

SINR

signal to interference plus noise ratio ,the quality of the signal in UE

received

RSRQ

reference signal received quality, show the quality of reference signal

PCI

physical cell identifier

1. Serving PCI
For SSV this parameter can indicate whether the PCI is configured correctly or not and
whether the antenna is connected correctly or not.
Procedure

Expected Result

The test is done by driving all the roads

around the sites in idle/active mode .

PCI served correctly in each sector as it

should be as planned

GENEX Probe will display the serving PCI

and record the log file.Check the PCI of
different cell .
Test result:

2-Serving RSRP
Procedure

2015-9-7

Expected Result

11 , 15

DT Procedure

The test is done by driving all the roads

around the sites in idle/active mode .
GENEX Probe will display the serving
RSRP and record the log file
GENEX Assistant can analyse the log file
and show the result on the map and
statistics .

Near a cell : RSRP>=-80 dBm, (Excellent)

in the middle of a cell :
-100 =< RSRP < -80 (Good)
at the edge of a cell :
110 =< RSRP <-100 (Fair)
-120 =< RSRP <-110 (Poor)
target: the minimum RSRP for UEs to camp on a
cell is -109 dBm.
The RSRP is greater than -110 dBm in 90%
areas at the cell.

Test result:

3-Serving RSRQ
Procedure

Expected Result

The test is done by driving all the roads

around the sites in idle/active mode .
GENEX Probe will display the serving RSRQ
and record the log file.
GENEX Assistant can analyse the log file
and show the result on the map and statistics
.

RSRQ >= -10 dB (Excellent)

-12 dB =< RSRQ <-10 dB (Good)
-14 dB =< RSRQ <-12 dB (Fair)
-16 dB =< RSRQ <-14 dB (bad)
target: The RSRQ is greater than -14 dB in
90% areas at the cell.

Test result:
3-Serving SINR

Procedure

Expected Result

The test is done by driving all the roads

around the sites in idle/active mode .
GENEX Probe will display the serving SINR
and record the log file.

2015-9-7

SINR >= 30 (Excellent)

20 dB =< SINR < 30 dB (Very good)

12 , 15

DT Procedure

GENEX Assistant can analyse the log file

and show the result on the map and statistics
.

10 dB =< SINR < 20 dB (good)

0 dB =< SINR < 10 dB (Fair)
20 dB =< SINR < 0dB (poor)
target : The SINR is greater than 0 dB in
90% areas at the cell.

Test result:

2. Throughput test
Description
1- For each cell we should find MID Point and FAR Point away from the site to do DL&UL test.
So we need to do 12 tests for a site (12 throughput screenshot pictures)
2- The throughput test is a static test just find a location in front of the sector where radio
conditions are the best near by the test point for each cell.
3- During test you make sure you are always camping on same PCI ( the one of the sector)
Throughput (DL&UL)
Single user throughput is a key performance indicator of LTE system to ensure customer experience.
This test case aims to check the single user downlink&uplink peak throughput performance when UDP
services are enabled.
Procedure

Expected Result

Start the UE tracing tool and monitor the following

items: DL RSRP/SINR, RLC throughput, and rank
or MIMO mode.
Use the NetMeter or netpersec to trace
throughput. and record the result of average
throughput.

Operation succeeded.

Power on the UE to initiate the attach procedure.

The INITIAL UE MESSAGE and the last

UPLINK NAS TRANSPORT messages in S1
interface tracing indicate that the attach
procedure is successful.

Adjust the attenuator or move the UE to the cell

center when do the peak throughput test.

The downlink SINR is greater than 25 db and

RSRP is greater than -80 dBm.

Cut the screen picture of throughput(DL&UL),

When we test in MID point (200m)&FAR point
(1000m) away from the site

For MID point target throughput :

DL:55Mbps, UL:25Mbps
For FAR point target throughput:

2015-9-7

13 , 15

DT Procedure

DL:15Mbps,UL:10Mbps
Start downlink&uplink UDP data transfer using the
Iperf tool.

Operation succeeded.

Record the logs of average RSRP, SINR, when you

do the throughput

The throughput is stable.

Restore the configuration.

Operation succeeded.

Test result:

3.The Latence Test

Test the latence
Latency is the key performance of LTE system to ensure customer experience and consists of control
plane latency and user plane latency.
This test case aims to test the ping 32/1000 bytes latency under the following scenarios: stationary,
target user on cell center, without load, pre-scheduled.
Procedure

Expected Result

Open command prompt from windows and ping the ip address

of the FTP server (10.10.19.148) on same location u where
doing the throughput test and take snapshot of the block
window.
We do it once per sector
Ping 32 bytes from the UE to the server for 50 times.
Obtain the average, maximum, minimum E2E user plane
latency and standard deviation for 32 bytes.
Command: ping n 50 l 32 10.10.19.148

The average time value is less than 35

ms

Test result:

4.Handover Test
The objective is to know if the HO is working between the 3 sectors of the site.
Handover Test
This test case involves the following elements: EPC, eNodeB , cell1,2,3, and UE
Procedure

Expected Result

HO test is done in dedicated mode

1. Power on the UE and enable it to access cell 1.
2. Enable the UE to log in to the FTP server and download
a file from the server.

The Target Value of Handover

Success Rate(Intra-Frequency) is
90%

2015-9-7

14 , 15

DT Procedure

3. Move the UE from the coverage of cell 1 to the

coverage of cell 2/3, or adjust the attenuator to make the
signal quality of cell 2/3 better than that of cell 1 to
trigger a handover for the UE.
4. After the handover is complete, check the status of the
FTP downloading task..
Remarks
1>. The following figure shows the message flow of intra-frequency handover procedure of intraeNodeB.
(1). The UE sends the Measurement Report message (A3 Event) to the eNodeB.
(2). The eNodeB sends the RRC Connection Reconfiguration message to the UE to indicate that the
radio resource configuration information for UE random accessing.
(3). The UE sends the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message to the target cell to confirm that the UE
attaches to the target cell successfully.
(4). The eNodeB sends the RRC Connect Reconfiguration message to the UE to indicate the
configuration of UE measurement and gets back the RRC Reconfiguration Complete (Handover
complete) message from the UE.
