DETAILED PROPOSAL OF THE ACTIVITY

A. Title of the activity:
Perspectives and Trends in Microbiology-Biotechnology Research 2016 (PTMBR 2016)
B. Background including details of past events organized on the proposed
topic:
This department is actively involved in all round furnishing of students and
motivating them for research. One day state level seminar was organized for
providing guidance on opportunities and schemes for higher studies and
research in Indian universities/colleges/research institutes and foreign
universities. This was the first and innovative event of its kind organized in
Marathwada region sponsored by Dr. BAMU, Aurangabad. This event was a
grand success with 285 participants and brought the college in general and
department at particular in focus which ignited spark in students mind to
pursue higher studies indulging in research. Students were given thorough
guidance to on opportunities for higher studies in India and Abroad. The
talks have ignited spark among students minds and motivated the students
to opt for higher education.
A workshop on the theme, Entrepreneurship development programme was
also successfully completed in previous year in the college to make students
aware about the basic steps involved in the development of scientific
research into a proper business model. Fourty five students from different
institutes were trained in the same. Along with these number of research
activities are going on in the various departments in the college. Students
are motivated to do dissertations in the topic of their interest.
C. Aims/Objectives (in at least 500 words):
Microbiology and biotechnology are the quickly developing disciplines
with respect to their applied part in our day to days life. Molecular
diagnostics, forensic sciences, textiles, aquaculture, food processing,
bioremediations, biosensors, biopharming and biotransformations to
produce useful metabolites, neutraceuticals, vaccines, etc. are some
of the areas in which tremendous research is going on by utilizing
microbiological and biotechnological aspects. Biotechnology and

Microbiology holds significant promise to the future in these industries

to make new or better products, often with efficiency by utilizing
ecofriendly methods and easily available raw materials.
The genetic manipulations in plants aimed at making crops more
productive by reducing their dependence on pesticides, fertilizers and
irrigation, or by increasing their resistance to plant diseases.
Biotechnological methods are now used to produce plants with
improved nutritional quality with high proteins content, more omega-3
long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, for pharmaceutical and other
specialized purposes. The future of the world food supply depends
upon how well scientists, government, and the food industry are able
to communicate with consumers about the benefits and safety of the
technology.
Gene therapy altering DNA within cells in an organism to treat or
cure a disease is one of the most promising areas of biotechnology
research.

Biopharming

and

fermentation

industry

to

produce

neutraceuticals and important medicinal products is also dependent

on advances in the field of biotechnology and microbiology. Overall
Biotechnology is changing the way plants and animals are grown,
boosting their value to growers, processors and consumers.
Improved molecular diagnostics methods created new opportunities
for development of tools for more quick, accurate, and reliable
identification of the various disorders like AIDS, TB, cancers, genetic
disorders etc. The field of biomedical engineering has expanded
markedly with development in the field of pharmaceutical drugs,
biotherapeutics, stem cell research and regeneration of tissues. The
discipline focuses on development of new biomaterials, analytical
methodologies and on the application of concepts drawn from
engineering,

computing,

mathematics,

chemical

and

physical

sciences.
In summary, tremendous research is going on in the field of
microbiology and biotechnology and the emerging trends, applications
from this research are so broad with so compelling advantages, that
virtually every industry is using this technology to improve product
quality, efficiency, nutritional content, and economic benefits.

Students enrolled in the colleges affiliated to universities lack research

exposure. Hence with this conference we would like to take initiative
for the students to make them aware about recent advances in the
field of microbiology and biotechnology by organizing presentations of
ongoing progress in the research. The main goal of the Conference,
PTMBR-2015, is to promote research and developmental activities in
applied sciences involving use of microbes. This Conference will
provide a platform to introduce students from different institutes and
universities

to

the

fascinating

field

of

microbiological

and

biotechnological research by giving them an opportunity to interact, to

learn from more experienced scientists and to allow them to present
results of their own research. It would be an organized event for young
researchers, experienced scientists and industry personnel to discuss
their work, their views, their difficulties in the field of microbiology,
biotechnology, agricultural microbiology and environmental sciences.
Such an academic event will definitely enhance scientific tempo
among the students and research scholars and will be helpful to
increase the awareness about the significance of applied research in
the field of microbiology and biotechnology.
Area of Interest:
The original contributions covered under the scope of this Conference
is microbiology-biotechnology, including its many different aspects like
molecular,

environmental,

food,

agricultural,

fermentation

and

biotechnological topics like nanotechnology, pharma, with several

medicinal branches of microbiology.
D. Target audience/participants with expected number:
The Organizers would like to invite UG and PG students, research
scholars, academicians, research scientists and industry personals
across the country to participate in the Perspectives and Trends in
Microbiology-Biotechnology Research - 2016 (PTBR 2016).
The expected number of total participants is 350 to 400 on the basis
of our previous years Dr. BAMU, Aurangabad sponsored one day
seminar, Routes to Strengthen the Research in Life Sciences.
E. Details of Sessions:

Please mention themes/topics to be covered under each Business/Technical

Session and names of Resource Persons:
F. Expected outcome:
Number of interesting topics from various research areas of microbiology
and biotechnology will be covered on the proposed theme Perspectives
and Trends in Microbiology-Biotechnology Research - 2016 (PTMBR
2016). The eminent resource persons in the respective field will enlighten
and focus on all the broader, new, important and untouched aspects and
queries of the participant students and research scholars. The participants
students will definitely become aware about various opportunities, research
methodologies, novel concepts and recent trends in the field of microbiology
and biotechnology research. It will also beneficial for the research scholars
to represent their work in front of eminent scientists from various research
areas. This will be our honest attempt to motivate the students for opting
higher studies based on core and value based research in India.
