IAPAM Announces Best Practices for the Use of hCG in Weight Loss

The IAPAM is committed to educating physicians in the industryâ s best practices fo

r medical weight loss management. In support of this commitment, the IAPAM has c
ompleted a survey of several experts in the use of hCG in a medically supervised
weight loss program. These experts agree that there are 3 keys to successfully
incorporating hCG into a physician-managed weight loss protocol: strict adheren
ce to the protocol and physician supervision, properly sourced hCG, and comprehe
nsive hCG protocol training.
Las Vegas, NV, March 02, 2010 -- Following a survey of several experts in the us
e of hCG in medically supervised weight loss program, the IAPAM has determined t
hat there are 3 critical success factors that must be adhered to, to ensure that
an hCG program is successful for both the patient and the doctor. These key el
ements to success are:
1. Patients must follow the protocol precisely and patients should be under a p
hysician's care, so that possible side effects can be understood and managed;
2. hCG must be sourced from an experienced physician or accredited compounding
pharmacy; and
3. Training is essential to ensure that the managing physician: has a comprehen
sive understanding of the hCG protocol, including past and current research, und
erstands the effects of medication and/or the use of vitamins in the protocol, h
as access to a variety of 500 cal/day recipes, and other nuances of the protocol
that ensure success for the patient.
1. Medical Supervision Ensures Strict Adherence to the Protocol
Proponents of hCG for weight management agree "that the ultimate success of hCG
in weight loss is strictly linked to medical supervision and strict adherence to
the medical protocol designed by Dr. Simeons. It is the responsibility of heal
th care professionals to supervise, advise, guide and control their patients hea
lth before, during and after treatment. The physician should be able to establis
h which patients are good candidates for treatment with hCG, and together with t
heir patient, set realistic expectations that will allow for a successful proces
s .
Dr. Ben Gonzalez, reinforces this point. "Patients must be evaluated and follow
ed by a medical provider on this protocol." "A full medical evaluation to look
for subtle metabolic issues that can contribute to decreased overall health and
increased weight must be done." Equally, Dr. Scott Morris adds that, "the impor
tance of physician supervision [also] revolves around preventing or managing sid
e effects."

2. Properly Sourced hCG

Dr. Deb Musso, provides advice on the safe sourcing of hCG. Patients should ens
ure that, "their hCG [is secured] from an experienced physician who has worked c
onsistently with the product and sources reliable outlets for their product. I
do not suggest buying hCG from the internet or from someone who says you do not
need a prescription...any hCG you receive should be from a licensed compounding
pharmacy."
3. Training is Essential for Success
Given that hCG for weight loss is not, as Dr. Morris emphasizes, "a catch all d
iet, and "not everyone may be ready for hCG," training on, and understanding of,
the hCG protocol is essential. Through education, doctors can appreciate the e
ffects of medications, the implications of plateauing, the importance of vitamin
supplements, and understand all the other nuances in the protocol that result i
n patient satisfaction and success for a healthcare practice.
In support of this training goal, the IAPAM's has recently developed an exclusiv
e training program for physicians wishing to add Medically Supervised Weight Los
s Programs to their existing practices. The NEW IAPAM hCG Weight Loss Training
will be held in beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona, on:
March 26, 2010
April 23, 2010 and
June 4, 2010
