BACILLUS SUBTILIS
Es una bacteria Gram positiva, aerbica, que se encuentra comnmente en el
suelo. Pertenece al reino: Bacteria, clase: Bacilli, gnero: Bacillus, especie
subtilis.
Entre las caractersticas destacadas de este microorganismo est su capacidad
para controlar ciertas enfermedades en cultivos vegetales. Para esto se ha
descubierto que produce ciertos compuestos de bajo peso molecular con
mucha afinidad por el hierro, evitando la germinacin de las esporas de hongos
patgenos. Adems, produce antibiticos muy efectivos contra los hongos y,
cuando se instala en las races y hojas, induce a la planta a producir
fitoalexinas que confieren resistencia al ataque de hongos y nematodos
patgenos. Esta es una caracterstica que tiene muchas ventajas en
comparacin con los fungicidas qumicos, ya que no es toxico para humanos,
animales y plantas y no constituye un contaminante ambiental.
Una segunda caracterstica es que puede ser usada para el control de
enfermedades de los animales, como la salmonelosis, la cual constituye
enfermedades zoonticas (que pueden ser transmitidas al humano) de inters
