I have grown in a positive environment. In the middle school and high school, I had a particular
interest in student council. I decided to join the election for the student council president. I underwent
several phases of the election, including campaign and public speaking. I learnt the strategies on how
to express my idea in an effective manner so other people will understand. At that moment, I was
elected as the president. During my leading period, I brought out several new policies, one of them
was developing a journalistic club.
From the beginning of my university days, I joined a research club and a Research Exchange
association. There, I learnt many things, from how to make a good research until interacting with
foreign students that conducted a research in my campus. In my first year, I was elected as the
national coordinator of national scientific summit in Yogyakarta. It was a challenging experience that I
had to work with separated team all over Indonesia.
We planned several activities for the summit, they were the scientific competition, national
symposium, field visit, and research training. We faced several troubles at first, to conduct a national
scope event was not a simple thing. The trouble was mainly on communication, so I adjusted the
rythm and built up several commitments with the team. Due to our hard works, the summit could run
smoothly with some nice comments from the participants.
I was the team leader of a research seminar, entitled Research for Worth Life (ROLE). At that time, I
with other 10 girls tried to conduct this event. The aim of this event was to introduce to my friends that
beginning a research is not that difficult, regarding the paradigm of my friends that research was
tough. We face many obstacles, especially because of the little number of participants, that my team
were pessimist that the seminar would not work. Then, I talked to each of my friend and encourage
them and rebuilt the teams confident. I came with several planning strategies that the spirit of my
team was restored.
I was the team leader in a community service upon a foster family. There, we took a thorough
examination of their lifes health problem and took a possible intervention to make the family in a
better health. There, my team proposed an idea of a low salt diet to overcome the high blood pressure
(hypertension) in the family. We assisted them for six months, and at the end, the hypertension were
lower in the family. Our team was also the best team among all team that conducted a different
projects in other foster families.
Overall, it was a good and onerous thing to be a leader. All in all I take many life lessons that are not
thought at school. Helping people to achieve a better life is one of my lifes goal and I continue to
learn on how to contribute more and more.
