COCKPIT DISTRIBUTION
INTRODUCTION
The cockpit distribution system receives conditioned air flow from the
main distribution ducts and distributes this air to the cockpit.
DESCRIPTION
The temperature controlled air from the left ECU goes through the
distribution duct to the cockpit and goes into the cockpit through the
air outlets and feet valves.
Normally 56% of the mixed air from the left side goes to the cockpit
and 44% goes to the passenger cabin through the distribution duct
cross connection.
In the cockpit, the cold air is used for the display panel ventilation.
Air passages located in the cockpit floor, under the pilot seats, lateral
consoles, and the control column opening permit the air to return to
the recirculation fans and to the aircraft outflow valves (Ref. 21-31).
The cockpit distribution system has these components:
Feet valve.
Feet air handle.
Air outlets.
Air ducts.
Displays vent shutoff valve.
Temperature switch.
The figure COCKPIT DISTRIBUTION - MAIN COMPONENT LOCATIONS shows the location of the main components of the system.

TEMPERATURE SWITCH

FEET VALVE

There are two temperature switches located in the left and right
cockpit distribution ducts, under the cockpit floor. Each temperature
switch has the function of controlling the respective display vent
valve. The temperature switches (left or right) send signals to control
the valves.

Each pilots feet outlet has a mechanically operated valve. The

handles which operate these valves are installed on the pilot and
copilot panels.
FEET AIR HANDLE

The figure COCKPIT DISTRIBUTION - DISPLAY VENT VALVE

LOCATION shows the vent shutoff valve location.

There is one feet air handle for each pilot.

The feet air handle is of the push-pull type command cable to
control the feet air valves.
AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM OUTLETS

There is one outlet in each lateral console to direct the air to the pilot
seats.
There is also a triangular-shaped manifold to make a film of
conditioned air over the direct vision window.
AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM DUCTS

The ducts in the cockpit receive the airflow from the main distribution
ducts (Ref. 21-20) and supply this air to the cockpit air outlets.
DISPLAYS VENT SHUTOFF VALVE

There are two vent valves installed in the cockpit distribution ducts.
One on the left side and other on the right side. These valves operate
electrically and each is controlled by a temperature switch. They have
the function of permitting cold air to cool the displays. These valves
close the air flow when the air temperature in the ducts reaches
43.5oC (110oF) and reopen the air flow when the air temperature in
the ducts decreases to less than 35oC (95oF). For more information
on the valves, refer to the gasper shutoff valve (Ref. 21-23).

OPERATION
Usually, the air from the left ECU supplies the cockpit. 56% of the
mixed air goes to the cockpit and 44% goes to the passenger cabin
through the distribution duct cross-connection. If the left ECU is not
operating, the right ECU can supply the cockpit through the cross
connection in the main distribution ducts.
In the cockpit the air flows to the foot valves and to the outlets in the
lateral consoles, in the back of the displays of the pilot and copilot
panels, and in the center ceiling-lining panel.
The pilots can control the foot valves through the foot air handles on
the panel.
The figure COCKPIT DISTRIBUTION - SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM
shows the operation of the cockpit distribution system.

DISPLAY VENTILATION SYSTEM - ELECTRICAL OPERATION

DC Bus 2 supplies 28 V DC to the display vent valve 1 relay and to

the display vent valve 2 relay. It also supplies 28 V DC to the left and
right display vent valves through the contacts of the display vent valve
1 relay and through the contacts of the display vent valve 2 relay in
the deenergized condition. It is intended to open both left and right
display vent valves, supplying air to the displays from the cockpit
distribution ducts.
When the air temperature in the cockpit conditioned air ducts reaches
43.5oC (110oF), ground signals are sent to both display vent valve
relays (1 and 2) to energize them. When this occurs, both display
vent valves (left and right) are energized to close.
The figure COCKPIT DISTRIBUTION - DISPLAY VENTILATION
SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM shows its operation.
