English
Much of our English work will be linked to our study of The Vikings and
our class novel The Saga of Erik the Viking by Terry Jones. The children
will engage in both non-fiction and fictional writing. They will use the
disagreement between the Anglo Saxons and Vikings to write up a balanced discussion presenting two sides of an argument. They will also
compose a biographical account based on their research of the Viking
period. They will develop their skills in creating a mysterious atmosphere
and building tension by creating their own Viking Sagas (linked to our
class novel) through the form of both writing and drama.
The study of grammar, punctuation and spelling will be ongoing through
the year (following our new scheme of work).
Mathematics
The children will work through the Year 5 National Curriculum
covering the following areas:
Place Value
Time
Measurement (length)
Fractions
We want to become very confident with our multiplication tables to
12x12 (and the related division facts for these) this term also, so
please practice lots at home!
Computing
Following the New Curriculum for computing,
the children will:
RE
We will be looking at two RE units of work this term. The first will look
at Hinduism and Hindu Gods and worship. The second will focus on
Christianity and followers of Jesus with a close link to Christmas preparations in school.
PSHE
In line with our new Values curriculum, the children will be looking at a new value each month and exploring what it means to
them. The values for this term are as follows:
September - Friendship
October - Appreciation
November - Caring
December - Love
Additional Information
PE- this takes place on Tuesday (outdoor) and on Friday (indoor). Please ensure the correct PE kit is in school for these days.
Music The children will be taking part in Wider Opps music lessons taught by Miss Cottrell and Mrs Batchelor (additional details already provided).
Please ensure that children remember to bring their instruments in every Thursday.
