What are the different formats followed around the world in Hong

Session 2: Public Speaking/ Rules Part 1- (90 minutes)


(24th September,2015)
Highlight the importance of public speaking skills. Why would public skills be
important in the future?
1. What are the roles of the Chair/Vice Chair/Rapporteur/Moderator? How
are they addressed?
2. Introduction of the rules/terminologies used in the flow of debate in a
MUN. (In-detail)
3. Show a video of a typical debate of MUN with a focus to familiarise the
members with the usage and application of the rules.
Entertain doubts and questions with regard to the rules in a MUN.
*at the end of this session copies of the rules of a MUN will be distributed to
the members so that members can keep it and go through them. Also, a
softcopy will be sent through an email.

Session 3: (90 minutes) Rules Part 2 (Leftovers from the


previous session + How to write a resolution/writing
paper/communique )
(8th October,2015)
1. Discuss the rules of debate that were not discussed due to time
constraints in S3.
2. What is a resolution/writing paper/ communiue?
3. What are pre-ambulatory clauses and operative clauses in a resolution?
4. Whats the importance of forming blocs?
5. Number of votes required to win a resolution?

*A handout of sample resolutions/communique/writing paper/ list of pre
ambulatory and operative clauses will be distributed to the members*



Session 4: How to research/ debate/ provide solutions-
(90 minutes)
(29th October, 2015)
1. How to discuss problems/solutions/consequences in a MUN?
2. Importance of minimising the use of jargons.
3. What is the importance of presenting a solution that is practical and
implementable?
4. Reports from which sources are acceptable.
5. Importance of research.
6. How to go about your research?
7. Should you be solely dependent on your research?
