In this action research, the researcher had stated two research questions. The two
research questions were justified based on the data collected in this research.
7.1 Does the use of piccabulary improve Year 2 Bestari pupils understanding of
hyponyms?
Based on the research conducted, the researcher had identified that pupils
understanding towards hyponyms were increased. By the usage of piccabulary, pupils were
able to understand the meaning of the hyponyms because piccabulary contains the picture and
vocabulary of the item. This is verified by Hornby (2007), which stated that picture is a
description that gives you an idea in your mind of what something is like. Hence, the usage of
pictures will make the process of learning become easier for the children as it will make them
easier to remember and understand the new vocabulary that they had learned.
By the usage of visual aids such as piccabulary, it made pupils easier to understand the
different types of hyponyms and thus they were able to differentiate them according to their
types.
In addition, from the pre-test and post-test conducted to the respondents, all
the research showed positive effect where pupils able to had deeper understanding about the
targeted vocabulary and they were identified to be engaged with the lesson.
7.2. How does the use of piccabulary help to enhance Year 2 Bestari pupils in learning
vocabulary on hyponyms?
Based on the research, the researcher identified that piccabulary had help pupils in
learning vocabulary especially on hyponyms. In traditional teaching, usually teachers used chalk
and talk strategy to teach pupils. By integrating the usage of picture in the lesson, pupils
become more interested to learn by showed positive attitude during the lessons. Based from the
questionnaire given to the pupils, the results showed positive results regarding the intervention
where pupils enjoy the lesson. Based on the research, 2 respondents agree that they enjoy the
lesson using picture and 6 respondents strongly agree that they enjoy the lesson using picture.
From the data, it can be concluded that they were enjoy the lesson which they were able to
participate in the lesson and did not stress up during the lesson because the usage of
piccabulary had help them to easily understand the vocabulary teach to them. usually pupils will
not enjoy the lesson when they did not able to understand or connect the lesson with their
previous knowledge thus they will show negative attitude such as they become passive in class
and reluctant to learn.
From the data collected, it can be summarize that pupils enjoy the usage of the
intervention in the lesson especially in learning vocabulary and by that it motivated them to
learn. The findings also found out that the respondents were agreeing that the usage of
piccabularry help them to improve their memorisation of the hyponyms that they had learned.
The usage of piccabulary as teaching aid had helped them in memorisation because most of the
respondents were visual learners and they learn better with the usage of visual aids.
Furthermore, the research also showed that the use of piccabulry increase their vocabulary on
hyponym. The research had proved that pupils vocabulary in hyponyms was increase and it
had helped them to wider their range of vocabulary. The usage of piccabulary also promotes
discussion that helps pupils to enhance their learning. From the active discussion about the
lesson among peers in the classroom it promotes understanding about the lesson. From the
observation checklist, the comments given showed that there were active discussion occurs
during the lesson. By having the discussion, it showed that pupils were engage with the lesson
and they pay attention during the lesson. The findings also showed that pupils were active in the
lesson where they involved with the asking and answering session with the teacher during the
lessons.
and support teachers to do other research in order to find solutions or improvement in their
practices and teaching.
8.1 Limitation of study
This study has its own limitation by which it is limited to the target pupils in Year 2 Bestari
pupils from Sekolah Kebangsaan Syeikh Idris Al-Marbawi. The results of this research may not
be generalised to pupils from other schools. The other limitation was the time constraint in
completing this research. The time allocated for the research was only one week and by the
short amount of time, the results of this research might not be fully complete.
