abbreviated class notes and study aids are posted to my school website.

2. It is the student’s responsibility to complete and turn in all assignments by the posted due date.
You will place your homework in your class basket located by the door upon entering the
classroom. Late work is accepted with a 20-point deduction on the first day late, 30-point
deduction if turned in two days late, and a zero will be given on assignments late three or more
days late.

3. For excused absences, the student is given the same number of days to complete
assignments as he/she was absent. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain their missed
assignment(s) from my assignment calendar or on my school website. If needed, review the
assignment with me during the last 10 minutes of class, during lunch or after school.

4. Students are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities for extra credit throughout each
six weeks period.
Classroom Procedures
REQUIRED MATERIALS to be brought to class each day:
 two sharpened pencils  class notebook containing
 two pens (blue or black) loose notebook paper, daily
 one red pen for grading agenda, class notes and graded
 one hi-lighter assignments

ENTERING THE CLASSROOM: We enter the classroom in a calm, quiet manner. Sharpen your pencil if
necessary and take a seat. Remember, once the door is closed you must be in your seat and working. That means
having the necessary materials out on your desk. Attendance is taken while you are copying the daily agenda and
answering the question of the day. To expedite this procedure and quickly begin the lesson, I ask that everyone
refrain from talking.
TARDINESS: You are expected to be in your seat when I close the door at the bell. If you arrive within 5 minutes
of the bell and do not have a pass, quietly sign the tardy sheet by the door. If you arrive more than five minutes
after the bell rings and do not have a pass, proceed directly to the office for a tardy slip. Consequences for being
late are outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.

CLASS NOTEBOOK: This important tool will help you succeed in my class. Bring it to class with you every day. A
notebook grade is taken twice during each 6-week grading period. You will receive a 100 if your notebook contains
an up-to-date agenda, all class notes, all graded assignments and at least ten sheets of blank loose notebook
paper.

ATTENTION SIGNALS: When I hold up my hand I will say, "Give me five." This means the entire class should be
silent and still within 5 seconds. To conclude small group discussions and activities, I will begin playing music. You
have until the end of the song to wrap-up and be ready for further instructions.

ASKING QUESTIONS/GETTING HELP: Raise your hand and I will acknowledge you. Please refrain from asking
questions not related to the lesson while I am giving directions. I will listen attentively while you are speaking and I
expect the same courtesy while I am speaking. I am available to answer questions/provide clarification on lessons
30 minutes before and after school and possibly during my conference period or lunch. I highly recommend you
schedule a time with me to ensure I will be in my classroom. You may also contact me by my school email.

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR: Your responsibilities in this class are to (1) be on time, (2) be prepared, (3) be
productive. All students are expected to be polite and respectful to one another, the teacher, (that includes
substitute teachers), and any guest. No student will be allowed to disrupt the learning of his/her classmates.

RESTROOM/HALL PASSES: You are expected to use the restroom between classes. No bathroom passes, (or
any passes), will be issued during the first ten minutes of class. Before leaving the room, you must sign out on the
hall pass clipboard. You must sign in upon your return. You are allowed two passes, (of any kind), per six weeks.
Use them wisely.

END OF CLASS DISMISSAL: Three minutes before class ends, I will tell you to begin packing up. You are
expected to pick up any paper, pencils, trash, etc. around your desk and return classroom materials, (including
your desk if moved for a class activity), neatly to its proper location. After cleaning up, return to your seat until I
dismiss you. I will dismiss you, not the bell.

I have read and understand Mrs. Giddens Class Rules and Procedures. I agree to abide by the outlined rules and
procedures to assist in creating an environment where all students will learn. I have also reviewed the class rules
and procedures with my parents/guardian.
