MARKER POSTS

Road reserve boundary posts shall be made according to typical design 3.503.1-89 and 3.503-80 of
Soyuzdorproekt.

ROAD RESERVE BOUNDARY POSTS

Where the acquisition of land is required for the road reserve the Contractor shall, as soon as
practicable after the Commencement Date install boundary posts to delineate the extent of the road
reserve.
Road reserve boundary posts shall be constructed from grade 20/20 concrete reinforced with 10
mm diameter high-yield deformed bars as shown on the Drawings. The posts shall be painted with
two coats of white epoxy paint. The chainage along the road and offset distance from the road
centreline of the post shall be painted onto the front face of the posts in black paint.

EDGE MARKER POSTS

The Contractor shall erect edge marker posts at locations shown on the drawings or directed by the
Engineer. The edge marker posts shall be erected at the outer edge of the shoulder, or behind guardrail, with their tops at a constant height above the edge of the carriageway.
Posts erected on the edge of embankment shal meet the requirements of Section 200 of these
specifications. Metal posts CC-1 shall be painted by white polymerous colour and the top of it
shall be covered by yellow or red reflective film.

KILOMETRE MARKER POSTS

All existing kilometre posts shall be carefully taken down at the commencement of works and
removed to an approved store..
Kilometre marker posts shall be in accordance with Section 200 and shall be painted by two layers
of approved epoxy white colour and have black mount and numeric marking.
On completion of road and bridgeworks the Contractor shall erect/re-erect kilometre marker posts
on the outer edge of the shoulder. Where guard-rail is also being erected/re-erected the kilometre
posts shall be located behind the guard-rail. Any damaged paint surfaces shall be made good to the
satisfaction of the Engineer.

1302 PERMANENT ROAD SIGNS


Road signs shall comply with Section 200 of this Specification.
The Contractor shall obtain road signs from a manufacturer approved by the Engineer. Before placing any
order for the manufacture of road signs the Contractor shall submit to the Engineer two copies of the
following information:

name of the firm from which he proposes to obtain the signs together with place of
manufacture or fabrication,
a description of the items to be supplied,
the manufacturer's specification together with a description of quality, grade,
weight and strength,

manufacturer's test certificates, or recent test results carried out on similar items by
an authority or laboratory recognised by the Engineer,
a sample sign, post and fittings that shall be stored on site.

The manufacturer or supplier shall submit to the Engineer, via the Contractor, the following information:

instructions in respect of the assembly and erection of the signs, including


foundation design,
details of any limitation in location or usage,
instructions on the operation and maintenance of the signs.

The manufacturer shall provide a warranty for his product valid for a 7 year period in such a form as is
acceptable to the Engineer.
All faces of permanent road signs shall be retroreflective. The retroreflective sheeting shall comply with the
requirements of Section 200 of this Specification, and shall be applied by mechanical vacuum-heat
application method to the approval of the Engineer. The sign plate shall be covered by clear lacquer of a
make recommended by the manufacturer of the retroreflective material.
Road signs are installed on metal posts, sizes of guards 2 standard sizes with reflective material of 3rd type.
Diameter of posts 70, colour of posts white with black skirt, altitude of skirt of post - 0.6, altitude
of installation from surface of rigid pavement to bottom edge of road signs 2,5. Sign bracing
superimposed yoke on bolts, in order to avoid infringement of integrity of field of sign and longevity
increase.Unless directed otherwise the backs of signs shall be painted with a finish coat of grey. Bolts and
nuts shall be spot welded after erection to prevent theft, and grey epoxy paint shall be applied to all areas so
treated.
Finished sign plate (with sign face attached) shall be clearly and durably marked on the back, with the
following information in English and official language:

the number of the Standard Specification to which they have been manufactured,
the name, trade mark or other means of identification of the manufacturer or
supplier,
the classification of any retroreflective material used in the manufacture of the sign
face,
the month and year of assembly.

These markings shall be in characters legible at a normal reading distance and shall be sufficiently durable
to last the expected life of the sign plate to which it is applied.
The Contractor shall excavate in any material for the foundation of the road signs, provide and place
concrete Class 20/20, embedded all round and under the posts and backfill the remaining excavation all as
shown on the Drawings or directed by the Engineer. Foundations for signs of areas over 5 m 2 shall not be
covered up until they have been approved by the Engineer.
The Contractor shall cut back trees and vegetation to permit visibility and shall not permit material to be
dumped so as to obscure signs.

1303 GUARD-RAILS
A

GENERAL

The requirements for guard rail given in this section of the Specification shall also apply to the
barrier fences shown on the Drawings.
Guard rails of reinforced concrete shall be installed according to typical highway project of
Soyuzdorproekt of 1994 - 3.503.1-89 Edition 1 and 2 metallic guard rails shall be made according
ST RK 1278-2004.
Metallic guard- and handrails shall be installed in accordance with the series of 3.503.1-81, Edition
1-1, Scheme for Assembly of Clearances and of the series 3.501.1-81, Edition 3-1, Metal Bridge
Deck Elements under typical highway project of Soyuzdorproekt, 1988y.
All existing guardrails shall be accurately demounted at the beginning of the works.
Where new guardrails are shown on the drawings the existing components shall be disposed of
by the Contractor off site.
Where repair and re-erect guardrails are shown on the drawings, all components shall be
inspected and, where approved by the Engineer, cleaned down by wire brush, repaired, repainted,
and set aside for reuse. Individual components, which in the Engineers opinion are too badly
damaged for repair and reuse, shall be disposed of by the Contractor off site and replaced.
New components shall be provided for terminal sections to both new guardrail and repair and
re-erect guardrail in accordance with the layout and construction details shown on the drawings.
All guard-rail components shall be in accordance with section 200 of these specifications.

INSTALLATION OF GUARD RAILS

On completion of adjacent road and bridgeworks, guard-rails shall be repaired and


new guard-rails erected as shown on the drawings.

All exposed ends of guardrails shall be flared away from the traffic and fitted with terminal
sections in accordance with the layouts shown on the drawings, regardless of the direction of traffic
and whether or not existing installations include such terminal sections.
Where existing guardrails were originally erected with discontinuity of the guard-rail at
immediately adjacent pairs of posts, such discontinuity shall be eliminated when the guardrail
system is re-installed.
Guard-rails shall be erected so that the over laps point in the same direction as the flow of the
traffic and shall conform with the tolerances specified in Clause 1303C of this specification.
Posts for guard-rails off bridges shall either be driven or placed in pre-excavated holes as approved
by the Engineer. Backfilling of post holes shall be to a dry density of 98% MDD.
Guard-rail posts on bridges shall not be erected until the concrete in which the holdings down bolts
have been cast has reached 28 day strength.

New guard-rail components shall receive a paint finish in accordance with Section 200 of these
specifications.

TOLERANCES

Guard-rail shall be erected at the instructed or detailed offsets and levels from the pavement
centreline and shall be correct within a tolerance of 20 mm in line and level. Adjacent plates
shall not vary in line or grade by more than 5 mm measured from a line extended from one plate to
the end of the adjacent plate.
