Acceptance Test BR7.0

Purpose:

Enable EDGE feature with the right settings.

Description:

The test case shows how to enable EDGE feature by setting the related
attributes on BSC, TRX and PTPPKF objects in the right order. Nack Causes
are described which are displayed to the operator in case a wrong sequence of
settings is performed.
In addition, Nack Causes are described which are displayed if the operator tries
to enable EDGE feature on TRX and PTPPKF objects without having enabled
GPRS service before.

Release:

BR 7.0

Required equipment:

- 1 RC.
- 1 or more BSSs connected to RC via Newbridge card or via HSI card.
- 1 BSC High Capacity.

Required documentation:

CML:RC

Prerequisites:

At least 1 PTPPKF (BTS) must be configured.

At least one BTS Plus must be equipped with at least one Edge Carrier Unit
(E_CU) to make available the EDGE service --> the related Carrier Unit
must have Carrier Capability = EDGE.
The BSC must be High Capacity equipped (SNAP, PPXL, PPXU).
RC session has been started by the Operator with profile System
administrator or Configurator User.

Additional information:

None.

Expected result:

EDGE feature is enabled and properly configured.

Configuration of EDGE parameters belonging to BSC, PTPPKF and TRX

objects

1.

RC

To configure the EDGE service on BSS, it is necessary to enable it at BSC level and then make
available both GPRS and EDGE functionalities at least for one PTPPKF object.
Besides, in order to enable the EDGE service at PTPPKF level there must be at least one TRX with
trxMode attribute set at EDGE.

On BSC object perform a C.M. (Configuration Management) command:

Set BSC Basics: edgeSupport = FALSE
and then, for a PTPPKF object belonging to a BTS Plus with at least one E-CU equipped, perform
the C.M. commands:
Lock PTPPKF
Set PTPPKF Basics: enableGprs = TRUE, enableEdge = TRUE
A Nack UNSUCCESSFUL_EDGE_NOT_SUPPORTED is expected: if there are not any TRXs with
trxMode = EDGE the EDGE service cannot be enabled at PTPPKF level.

On a TRX object, related to the above PTPPKF, perform the C.M. commands:
Lock TRX
Set TRX Basics: trxMode = EDGE
Unlock TRX
A Nack UNSUCCESSFUL_EDGE_NOT_SUPPORTED is expected: it is not possible to create a
TRX in EDGE mode if the EDGE service is disabled at BSC level.

On BSC object perform a C.M. command:

Set BSC Basics: edgeSupport = TRUE
and then, for the above PTPPKF, perform the C.M. commands:
Lock TRX
Set TRX Basics: trxMode = EDGE
Unlock TRX
Lock PTPPKF
Set PTPPKF Basics: enableGprs = TRUE, enableEdge = TRUE
A Nack UNSUCCESSFUL_INVALID_ATTRIBUTES is expected, with add info: the attribute
enableEdge can not be set at TRUE if codingScheme3CodingScheme4Support attribute is set at
FALSE.

On PTPPKF object perform a C.M. command:

Set PTPPKF Basics: codingScheme3CodingScheme4Support = TRUE
A Nack UNSUCCESSFUL_CODING_SCHEME_NOT_SUPPORTED is expected, with add info: the
codingScheme3CodingScheme4Support
attribute
cannot
be
set
at
TRUE
if
codingScheme3CodingScheme4Support at BSC level is set at FALSE.

On BSC object perform a C.M. command:

Set BSC Basics: codingScheme3CodingScheme4Support = TRUE
On PTPPKF object perform the C.M. commands:
Set PTPPKF Basics: codingScheme3CodingScheme4Support = TRUE,
enableGprs = TRUE, enableEdge =TRUE
Unlock PTPPKF
Verify the right settings.

2.

Configuration of the availability of EDGE service at TRX level

RC

For a PTPPKF object belonging to a BTS Plus with at least one E-CU equipped perform the C.M.
commands:
Lock TRX
Set TRX Basics: gprsSupported = FALSE, trxMode =TRUE
A Nack UNSUCCESSFUL_INVALID_ATTRIBUTES is expected: at TRX level it is not possible to
enable the EDGE service if the GPRS service is disabled.

Then perform the C.M. commands:

Set TRX Basics: gprsSupported = TRUE, trxMode =TRUE
Unlock TRX
and verify the right setting.

3.

Configuration of the availability of EDGE service at PTPPKF level

RC

For a PTPPKF object belonging to a BTS Plus with at least one E-CU equipped perform the C.M.
commands:
Lock PTPPKF
Set PTPPKF Basics: enableGprs = FALSE, enableEdge =TRUE
A Nack UNSUCCESSFUL_INVALID_ATTRIBUTES is expected: at PTPPKF level it is not possible
to enable the EDGE service if the GPRS service is disabled.

Then perform the C.M. commands:

Set PTPPKF Basics: enableGprs = TRUE, enableEdge =TRUE
Unlock PTPPKF
and verify the right setting.

4.

Configuration of EDGE parameters related to BCCH TRX

RC

It is possible to enable the usage of 8PSK modulation on BCCH TRX also, by means of
egprs8pskOnBcchTrx attribute in PTPPKF object.
On a PTPPKF object, belonging to a BTS Plus with at least one E-CU equipped, perform the C.M.
commands:
Lock PTPPKF
Set PTPPKF Basics: enableGprs = TRUE, enableEdge =TRUE,
egprs8pskOnBcchTrx = TRUE
Unlock PTPPKF
A Nack UNSUCCESSFUL_EDGE_NOT_SUPPORTED is expected, with add info: the attribute
egprs8pskOnBcchTrx can not be set at TRUE if the related BCCH TRX has trxMode set at GSM.
For the BCCH TRX of the above PTPPKF object perform the C.M. commands:
Lock TRX
Set TRX Basics: trxMode = EDGE
Unlock TRX
And then, on PTPPKF object, perform the C.M. commands:
Lock PTPPKF
Set PTPPKF Basics: enableGprs = TRUE, enableEdge =TRUE,
egprs8pskOnBcchTrx = TRUE
Unlock PTPPKF
Verify the right settings.
Timeslots 0 and 7 of BCCH TRX are always excluded from the usage of 8PSK modulation, whatever
are the parameters settings.
Note on Frequency Hopping: for a BTS configured with Base Band Hopping, all TRXs belonging to
the hopping law must have the same trxMode value (all GSM or all EDGE, mixed configurations are
not allowed).
Hence, when enabling EDGE on some TRXs of a cell, the operator has to configure a new specific
hopping law for these TRXs, if he wants them to hop.
This restriction is not present for Synthesized Hopping.
