MINERS WIN AGAIN AS

SYDNEY'S FINALS CHANCES ARE
IN TATTERS
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Wollongong,NSW | The Wollongong Miners recorded their
5th straight win to round out a remarkable end of the year
but their 21-7 victory exposed serious floors with the
Sydney Blues. The Blues crashed to a third straight loss
and will now have to go on the road in the wild card
weekend with no confidence whatsoever.
Sydney's started the game so poorly. Two missed
field goals were followed by an interception and the
Miners cashed in. After being stopped on downs with their
first drive, the Miners scored twice through superstar Trent
Richardson and then rushing touchdown leader Tom Bond.
The Blues kept on working hard but gone was the
confidence and the precision of their third down plays that
worked so well earlier in the year. The Miners secondary
was the real key to this game despite the attention given
to Richardson and his running game. The Miners held the
Blues to 240 yards but more importantly picked Harper 3
times. "Our whole game has come together at the back
end of the year and that is the most pleasing aspect" said
Coach Steve O'Dea who has now shaken off any thoughts
of being let go by the MIners. "Today was more about how
we kept the Blues under control. We shut down Marquise
Lee and that was the key". Danny Whittle went head to
head with Lee for much of the game. Whittle who has
struggled over the last 18 months has been back to his
best and Lee never got a chance to get into the game.
Anthony Gonzales caught a pass deep down the
right and then Tight End Wesley Pittman grabbed another
over the middle that set up Bond to crash his way in once
again. Bond finished with 2 on the day and 8 on the year
to lead all rushers. It also gave the home side a 21-0 lead
that was never going to be caught by a spluttering Blues
team.
Sydney's only touchdown came after Nesiasi
Bolton fumbled a punt. Harper hit Aaron Gela over the
middle for the score to provide some hope. The Blues
however failed to back this up as the fumbled the ball
away and then threw another pick to end the game.
