Greetings in St. La Salle!
Our organization, the De La Salle University Law Debate and Moot Society
(LAMDES) is the premiere moot and debate society in the De La Salle University
College leadership presents our plans for academic year 2015-2016

I.

J.W. DIOKNO CUP 2015 (DECEMBER 2015)

INTRODUCTION
The J.W. Diokno Cup (Diokno Cup) is an inter-school celebration of
human rights week, through a debate and dinner hosted by the school with the
support of the different student organizations of the DLSU COL.

B. Debate
The Diokno Cup will follow the Asian Parliamentary format, wherein teams are
assigned to take the Government or Opposition side of a particular motion.
The tournament will consist of three preliminary rounds, one semi-final round,
and one final round.

The overarching theme of the debate is Human Rights and Social Justice. The
motions of each round will fall within the scope of a defined theme from each
of the five participating DLSU COL organization.
C. Logistics
The debate is a whole day event, tentatively scheduled on 06 December 2015
(Sunday). The venue of the tournament would be the DLSU campus one
headquarters, 6-10 classrooms, and a dinner venue.
If possible, the finals round could be held in a prestigious venue, such as in
the Supreme Court. A partnership with the judiciary would enhance the event.
E. Participants and Guests
Among the law schools in Metro Manila, the following schools actively
participate in debate tournaments:

A maximum of two teams from each school are eligible for participation in the
event.
The event is open to guests of the DLSU COL, such as faculty members, DLSU
COL primus batch, Lasallian brothers, among others.
F. DLSU COL Participating Student Organizations
Five organizations of the DLSU COL have taken an active role in planning and
executing the event. They are: (1) Law Student Government (LSG), (2)
Lasallian Moot and Debate Society (LAMDES), (3) Juan De La Salle (Juan),
(4) International Law Society (ILS), and (5) Paralegal Volunteers
Organization (PVO). Each organization is assigned a primary responsibility.
G. Financial Projections
The projected expenses for the event will reach around PhP70,000. The bulk
of the expenses cover the venues and food.

The inflows will primarily come from registration fee charges of PhP2,000 per
team, as well as sponsorship packages.

Law School Government Electoral Debates (2016)

This event is contingent upon the number of candidates. There should be


opposing candidates.

NOTE: We can choose TWO cinemas with average seating capacity to


increase number of attendees and increase target profit. We can also
increase ticket price.
Suggested movies:
o Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (showing March 25)
o Prometheus 2 (March 4)
The operating budget will most probably be at the expense of the
members and/or sponsors. As for the movies, cinemas usually
have arrangements wherein the organizations can pay after the
event. Their only condition is a minimal downpayment.

Brian Chuahiock who is the 4th best speaker in the Philippines and
current Minister for Varsity Affairs (External Moot and Debate)
