A very special welcome to Emma Dawson, Alice Waller, McKenzie

Larsen, Angus Hollows, Archie Gordon, Jackson Shaw, Libby Allison
and their families to Kaikorai Primary School!

PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
Dear Parents,
Over the last 24 hours we have had the pleasure of
watching months of hard work come to fruition.
Your child needs to be congratulated for their hard work,
attitude and behaviour in the schools production From the
Alps to the Ocean. I also need to recognise the hard work
done by all of the staff, especially our production committee of
Xzenia Kutia, Courtney Dunn, Paula Fisher and Jill Kumar.
The Kapa Haka also performed yesterday and were indeed a
credit to the school. I would argue that it was one of the best
they have performed as they gave four spine tingling
performances.
This is the last newsletter for the term and we hope all
children enjoy their last week at school and that they have a
safe and restful holiday.
Kind regards,
Simon Clarke

Junior News
By now you will be still reeling from the amazing show that Kaikorai children put on this week.
What a lot of work it has been but it has been worth all the work to see the high level of
performance the children have reached. Another plus has been the wonderful buddy
friendships that have developed between the classes. For all those who got to see the show, and
we hope that is all of you, thank you for coming to support us and giving lots of wonderful
feedback.
A swimming notice will go home early next week please return the bottom section and keep
the other part handy at home.
We wish you all a wonderful and restful break away from all the coughs, colds and virus that
have been doing the rounds. We look forward to seeing you all back in Term 4 ready to
continue learning.
Middle News Inquiry learning
The final curtain has closed on our Alps to Ocean dance production, and it was enjoyed by all.
Tirohanga is our next big adventure which is coming up in Term 4. We are holding a parent
information evening next week on Wednesday 23rd of September in Room 3 at 6pm. At the
meeting we share the purpose of our trip, planned activities and what you can expect as a parent
helper.
Swimming
Swimming begins in the first week of next term and parents are welcome to come and watch
quietly. Children ought to be able to dress themselves by this age it fits with our goal of being
independent. Please consider clothes that are easy for children to put on and off, e.g. no tights.
Dates: October 14- 16 (Wednesday- Friday)
October 19- 23 (Monday-Friday)
Times: 1:00- R3, 1:30- R5, 2:00- R6

Senior News
The production has kept the senior syndicate busy over the last few weeks. It has been pleasing to
develop dance and music and the children have worked hard to present to the community a polished
performance.
Pip Dick has kept Room 1 on their technological toes for the month that Linda Martin has been
overseas. Pip has introduced the class to programming.
Next term we welcome Linda back from her travels. The syndicate will focus on structures. We will
have a science focus with opportunities for children to build their enquiry minds ( and skills) into
planning, constructing and testing.
In the last week you will receive a notice about swimming. Swimming lessons will begin on the first
Monday back for term 4. Please remind children to pack their togs for that day.

Sports at Kaikorai
Otago Cross Country
Sixteen Children took part in the Otago Cross country champs at the Kaikorai Valley College course.
Our top performer was Gemma Rowcroft, who was placed 7th in Otago. Molly Ballard placed 18th,
Emily Joyce 22nd and Ben Sinclair 24th With a large field and many specialist runners, our team
performed well.
Childrens Marathon
Congratulations to the Kaikorai runners who completed their marathon run last Sunday. Kaikorai
had a group of keen runners who were on the start line at 8:20 am on a coolish Sunday morning.
Thank you parents for giving the children this opportunity.

Child Safety
Adults behaviour around road safety has quite frankly been appalling in the last few
weeks.
The yellow lines that are around the school are there for yours and every childs safety
and are strictly no parking areas, this includes dropping off .
The area at the end of Tyne St is increasingly becoming a problem. If you park
illegally you run the risk of having your license plate number sent to the Police.
The lack of parking is made worse by parents who wait for extended periods on the 5
Min zone. This area is intended for pick up and drop offs only. If you want to let your
child play then please park elsewhere.
Your child does not necessarily need to be collected from the school gate and a short
walk will not only help their fitness but

Extra Current Events Quiz

Nine children in three teams contested
the Extra Current Events Quiz last
week. With topics ranging from flag
identification to newspaper hunts, even
the parents in the gallery were well
challenged.
