(I) STATEMENT & CONCLUSION

In the following questions some statements are followed by two Conclusions I and II. Decide as
to the correct answer from the choices.
(a) Only I follows (b) Only II follows (c) Both I and II follow (d) Neither of them follows.
1. Statement: Both India and Pakistan are democratic countries. Both have democratically
elected Prime Ministers. Both the Prime Ministers want peace.
Conclusions:
I. India and Pakistan may give up the path of confrontation.
II. India and Pakistan are neighbouring countries.
2. Statement: The Planning Commission is opposed to the proposal. It feels that the cost of
subsidizing helicopter operations will be exorbitant.
Conclusions:
I. The Planning Commission wants expenditure cut for the government.
II. Helicopter operations must be subsidised.
3. Statement: Fair and free elections have been held in Thaliban. The extremists could not stop
them. The government must be complimented for it.
Conclusions:
I. There is democracy in Thaliban though extremists are against it.
II. The government has faced the extremists effectively.
4. Statement: The population below the poverty line is computed on the basis of minimum daily
calories requirement of food and actual consumption. 48 percent of India's population lives
below the poverty line.
Conclusions:
I. 48 percent of India's people do not get required calories of food.
II. Poverty is India's biggest problem.
5. Statement: Time saving devices constitutes a new work culture. This culture removes sloth
and India needs it badly.
Conclusions:
I. The Indian work culture has sloth in it.
II. India probably lacks time saving machines.
(II) STATEMENT & ASSUMPTION
In each question below is given a statement followed by two assumptions numbered I and II. An
assumption is something supposed or taken for granted. You have to consider the statement
and the following assumptions and decide which for the assumption is implicit in the statement.

6. Statement: A large number of students and parents stood in the queue to collect forms for
admission to various under graduate courses in the college.
Assumptions: I. The college authority may be able to admit all those who stood in the queue.
II. The college authority may have adequate number of forms for all those standing in the
queue.

7. Statement: Our Europe Holiday Package costs less than some of the holiday packages
within the country.- An advertisement by an Indian travel company.
Assumptions: I. People may prefer to travel to foreign destinations (like Europe) than to the
places within the country at comparable cost.
II. People generally take their travel decisions after getting information from such
advertisements.
8. Statement: I must clear the entrance test this time Ram said to Ramesh.
Assumptions: I. Ram has already failed to clear the entrance test at least once.
II. More than one attempt is allowed to the candidates to clear the entrance test.
9. Statement: I have paid you 500 and now I owe you nothing Nita said to Samuel.
Assumptions: I. Nita owed 500 to Samuel.
II. Samuel had been demanding his money back from Nita for some time.
10. Statement: The patients condition would improve after operation.
Assumptions: I. The patient can be operated upon in this condition.
II. The patient cannot be operated upon in this condition.
11. Statement: As there is a great demand, every person seeking ticket of the show will be
given only 5 tickets
Assumptions: I. The organizers are not keen on selling the tickets.
II. No one is interested in getting more than five tickets.
12. Statement: Double your money in five months-An advertisement.
Assumptions: I. The assurance is not genuine.
II. People want their money to grow.
13. Statement: Films have become indispensable for the entertainment of people
Assumptions: I. Films are the only media of entertainment.
II. People enjoy films.
14. Statement: To keep myself up-to-date, I always listen to 9.00 p.m. news on radio. A
candidate tells the interview board.

Each question below contains a Statement and two Courses of Action I and II. Assuming
the statement to be true, decide which of the two suggested Course of Action logically
follows, using the Code given below.

16. Statement: One of the problems facing the food processing industry is the irregular supply
of raw material. The producers of raw materials are not getting a reasonable price.
Courses of Action: I. The government should regulate the supply of raw material to other
industries also.

material for food processing industry.
17. Statement: The Officer In-charge of a Company had a hunch that some money was missing
from the safe.
Courses of Action: I. He should get it recounted with the help of the staff and check it with the
