RUSA is approved by Cabinet on 20th
June 2013 Finance Ministry sanctioned RUSA on 23rd September 2013 CABE : Central Advisory Board of Education approved RUSA on 8th November 2013 First announcement about RUSA was made by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on 12TH Feb. 2013
RUSA : Total plan outlay is of Rs. 22,855 cr.
Central Share : Rs. 16,227 cr. State Share : Rs. 6,628 cr. Ratio of funding : 65: 35 For special category states , which are most backward : North East states , Sikkim, J & K , Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand 50% state share can be generated through private partnership / PPP model

What exactly RUSA is leading towards ? what is going
to be output of RUSA ? AMBITIOUS PLAN OF CREATION OF 208 NEW UNIVERSITIES IN ONE GO : 1: Up gradation of existing autonomous colleges to universities : creating 108 universities by supporting 55 cr. Each to convert into universities . Total funding : Rs. 5940 cr. [ central & state] Maharashtra & many states will be loosing this opportunity as very few autonomous colleges .

CCU : College Cluster Universities : 100
Conversion of colleges with quality infrastructure into universities . Concept of small universities : manageable , more efficient and with good governance Investment in each such CCU : Rs. 55 cr. Total investment : Rs.5500 cr. Thus during 12th plan period [2012-17] aim is to establish 208 new universities . Number of universities public, private & PPP may go to 850 -1000 universities by 2020. Establishment of new model colleges : 554
During RUSA of 12th plan new 288 model colleges will be founded with Rs. 12 cr. Investment for each college . Total investment : Rs. 3456 cr. Creating new professional colleges 100 with an investment of Rs. 26 cr. On each college . Total outlay : Rs. 2600 cr. Up gradation of existing colleges to model colleges : 266 colleges by investing Rs. 4 cr. In each selected colleges with good infrastructure . Total investment : Rs.1064 cr. Infrastructure grants to state universities :
Selected 306 state universities will get grant of Rs. 20 cr. For improvement of academic and physical infrastructure. Total investment : Rs. 6120 cr. Infrastructure grants to colleges : Selected 8500 colleges will be benefited and each college shall receive Rs. 2 cr. Total investment : Rs. 17000 cr.

Faculty recruitment support :
20,000 faculty positions in 306 universities will be filled by investing Rs. 11,6600 cr. Vocationalisation of higher education : 306 universities will be supported by Rs. 15 cr. Each for vocationalisation of its courses. Total investment : Rs. 4590 cr. Leadership development : Rs. 300 cr. Faculty improvement: 67 Academic Staff Colleges will get Rs. 10 cr.
