M106 (ADMINISTRATION AND SUPERVISION)

After reading all the course content of management and

supervision ,I could imagine that after the lectures ,studies ,training
application of the course

and

we will be enhance ourselves in developing

administrative and supervisory skills of a professional midwife. It will also

upgrade us in the changes brought by the modern technology .
I learned that Supervision is an authoritative direction of
the work of ones subordinates which is

based on their hierarchical

organization in which each level of subordinate to the one immediately above

it and subject to its orders. It is also a cooperative relationship between a
leader and one or more persons to accomplish a particular purpose and
supervision is a kind of teaching which involves, advising, helping, inspiring
leading and liberating. Being a Midwife Supervisor you should see that the
organization is meeting its goals, ensuring that staff are performing their
jobs so they will contribute a share of the accomplishment of goals and you
should be able to focus on daily problems and goals. When it comes to the
principles of Supervision I learned that being a supervisor you should strive to
make the

health station a better place. Good supervision is also well

planned which means objectives, methods of supervision and criteria for

judging are fully understood.
I learned the different the following universal concept for certain
principles of management which Include: 1. Division of work. Tasks must be
assigned.2. Authority and responsibility. The right to give orders.3. Discipline.
Obedience and respect.4. Unity of command. Subordinates should receive
orders from only one supervisor.5. Unity of direction. The objective should
have only one plan.6. Subordination of individual interest to general interest.
The staff interest should never prevail over the interest of the organization. 7.
Centralization. Only one point in the organization should have control over all
the parts. 8. Scalar chain. There must be an unbroken chain of managers
from top to bottom, and authority must follow the chain. 9. Order. Everything
and everyone has a place. 10. Equity. Fairness results from a combination of
kindness and justice. 11. Esprit de corps. The group should work as a team,
and every member must work toward the organizational goal.
I learned that being an administrator you should treats all people
with the same respect and fairness and does not play favorites. You make
decisions about a staff based on job performance and not on whether she
likes or dislikes someone. You handles each problem with objectivity and

doesn't allow personal feelings to dictate her course of action. When a

situation requires discipline, you should ensure that the action she takes is
consistent with similar cases, so that no one can accuse her of favoritism.
An effective administrator is able to motivate her staff to perform beyond
company standards. To achieve this goal, a good administrator must know
the strengths and weaknesses of her staff . She must praise an staff and give
recognition when an assignment or project is executed well and find tactful
ways that need improvement. An effective administrator seeks a mentoring
relationship to help them move up the corporate ladder. Mentoring requires a
willingness to share past experiences and insider tips that only come from
having been in the same position as the staff.
