RESEARCH CULTURE IN DEPED-QUEZON

Action research is a very useful tool for each teacher and each DepEd personnel.
With the help of action research, each teacher learns to find and search for new
information and data to be utilized for present issues and concerns to be addressed
inside the DepEd premises. There is no other way to scientifically produce knowledge
and address related classroom and school issues but through research.
I really admire the move of our SDS, Sir Tony for conceptualizing helpful
research program in the division---we have his drive---the drive of making research a
habit in DepEd-Quezon. Part of this program is the conceptualization of a research
group in the division which is known today as the Teacher-Researchers Association of
DepEd-Quezon, Inc. or TRAQ which was formally organized on July 5, 2014. This group
has been a helpful arm of the division in research in the production of a number of
action researches since its establishment. Also, the division through TRAQ has also
organized its publication journal of division researches. Since the release of Volume 1
No. 1 on November 2014 and Volume 2, No. 1 last April, an increase on the number of
action researches submitted to the division office has been observed. Also, a number of
action researches have also been submitted to the division office with the help of the
Online Research Consultation Program of TRAQ. As I evaluate it, Sir Tony has really
conceptualized a comprehensive research program for DepEd-Quezon.
At present, we are now on the process of conceptualization, with the support and
supervision of Sir Tony, the Biyaheng TRAQ: Sakay Na! This project aims to visit each
school and/or district to provide research trainings and workshops to teachers and other
DepEd personnel to sustain the research habit in the division.
Personally, I really love research. Since I was a college student, I have already
engaged myself in various research activities. The comprehensive research program of
Sir Tony in DepEd-Quezon has encouraged me to write and conduct action researches.
In my two years of teaching experience in the public school, I have already conducted
eight action researches which I used to respond to the learning needs of my students.
From these action researches, I was able to present them in various local, national and
international research conferences. These conferences include division-commissioned
research plena, the 1st DepEd National Research Conference on Strengthening SBM
held at Koronadal City, South Cotabato, the 10 th Asian EFL Journal International TESOL
Conference, and the International Conference on Applied Linguistics and Language
Education.
And this November, I together with the members of the special research team of
the division will be presenting our division-commissioned research at the 13 th Asia TEFL
International Conference in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, Peoples Republic of China.
I am really happy with my achievements in terms of research. However, without the

professional and financial help of the division office through Sir Tony, those
presentations will not be possible.
As such, I can really say that Sir Tony is a man of action---action for research. His
dreams for research are now realized. As part of DepEd-Quezon, we just have to
sustain it and make it a habit in our division.
