considered among the greatest the profession has produced.
Influenced by the British arts and craft movement

born in Richland Center, Wisconsin, on June 8, 1867,

ARCHITECTURAL CHARACTERISTIC AND PHILOSOPHY

To Wright, architecture was not just about buildings, it was about nourishing the lives of those sheltered
within them.
He called his architecture organic
described it as that great living creative spirit which from generation to generation, from age to age, proceeds,
persists, creates, according to the nature of man and his circumstances as they both change.

He believed architecture must stand as a unified whole, grow from and be a blessing to the landscape, all
parts relating and contributing to the final unity, whether furnishings, plantings, or works of art.
he created environments of carefully composed plans and elevations based on a consistent geometric
grammar, while skillfully implementing the integration of the building with the site through the compatibility of
materials, form, and method of construction.
Through simplification of form, line, and color, and through the rhythmic play of parts, the poise and
balance, the respect the forms pay to the materials
Wright created plastic, fluent, and articulate spaces that complement the changing physical and spiritual lives
of the people who live in them.

FALLING WATER
Fallingwater is the name of a very special house that is
built over a waterfall.
client- the Kaufmann family.

built between 1936 and 1939.

it is a National Historic Landmark.

integration with the striking natural surroundings.
Wright's passion for Japanese architecture was strongly
reflected in the design of Fallingwater
This organically designed private residence was intended
to be a nature retreat for its owners.

The house is well known for its connection to the site; which is built on top of an active waterfall which flows beneath the house.
Use of horizontal planes
The fireplace hearth in the living room incorporate rock found on the site and upon which the house was built living room floor was left in
place to apparently link the outside with the inside.
The stone floors are waxed, while the hearth is left plain, giving the impression of dry rocks protruding from a stream.

1st floor contains "billiards" room (west end) and children's playroom (east end). These two rooms open through central doors to an enclosed garden on
the south side
the second floor are the entry hall at the top of the central stairway, the living room (west end) and the dining room (east end).
The rectangle on the northeast portion of the site, called "the minor vessel,
On the first floor is the main door and entrance hall (west end) from which a stairway leads to the second floor living and dining rooms.
A half bath is located on the north side of the entrance hall.
Further east are a coat closet and back stairway, the boiler room, laundry room, and coal storage room, followed by a small workshop, half bath, and a
three-car garage.
On the second floor of the minor vessel is a guest bedroom above the entrance hall and an adjoining full bath. East of the back stairway are the kitchen
and butlers pantry,
The third floor overlaps the major and minor vessels in the center of the building
