Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences is inviting applications from suitably qualified
Tanzanians to be considered for employment to fill the following vacant posts:1. ASSISTANT LECTURER 2 POSTS
a)
Required Qualifications
Appropriate Masters Degree with a GPA of at least 4.0 and an average of B+ grade/ or
equivalent in the area of specialization.
GPA of 3.8 in the first degree from a recognized reputable University.
b)

Areas of Specialization.
Anatomy, Biochemistry, Clinical Pharmacology, Behavioral Sciences, Community Health,
Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Parasitology and
Medical Entomology, Pharmaceutics, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical
Microbiology, Nursing Management, Clinical Nursing, and Orthodontics, Paedodontics and
Community Dentistry.
c)

Duties and Responsibilities.


Assists in conducting lectures, prepare case studies, and assist in tutorials / seminars to
undergraduate students and other continuing education courses.
Works in co-operation with senior faculty members on specific projects such as research
and consultancy.
Understudies senior faculty to supervise special projects, conduct, publish and disseminate
research results.
Participates in training, research and consultancy.
Marks and grades of examination and tests.
Supervises students during seminars, examination, tests, practical, field work and tutorials.
Participates in writing of teaching manuals.
Participates in curriculum development.
Invigilates students during examinations.
Attends workshops, conferences and symposia.
Attends faculty development trainings.
Promotes excellence in all service programs of the department.
Performs any other duties that may be assigned by a competent authority.

2. TUTORIAL ASSISTANT 8 POSTS.


a)

Required Qualification
First Degree in the area of specialization
G.P.A of 3.8 in the first degree.

b)

Areas of Specialization

Anatomy, Biochemistry, Clinical Pharmacology, Haematology and Blood Transfusion, Behavioral


Sciences, Community Health, Environmental and Occupational Helalth Sciences, Development
Studies, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Parasitology and Medical Entomology, Pharmaceutics,
Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Nursing Management and
Clinical Nursing.
c) Duties and Responsibilities
Understudying senior faculty by attending Lectures, seminars, tutorials and practicals
where applicable.
Studies and acquire skills and knowledge in training, research and consultancy.
Assists in research and consultancy projects.
Develops training proposals conducted by Senior Faculty.
Participates in curriculum development.

RESEARCH TRAINEE
a)

Required Qualification
First Degree in the appropriate field.
G.P.A of 3.8 in the first degree.

b)

Areas of Specialization

Botany Agronomy and Plant breeding, Natural Products development and formulation, and
Biological and Pre- Clinical Studies.
c)

Duties and Responsibilities


Understudying senior faculty by attending Lectures, seminars, tutorials and practicals
where applicable.
Studies and acquire skills and knowledge in training, research and consultancy.
Assists in research and consultancy projects.
Develops training proposals conducted by Senior Faculty.
Participates in curriculum development.

4. SENIOR ACCOUTANT I - 1 POST


a)

Required Qualification

Holder of First Degree in Accoutant or Finance. Possession of CPA (T)


/ACCA/ACA/ICMA or equivalent is mandatory with working experience of at least six (6) years in a
similar position in a reputable organization.

b)
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensuring sound internal controls so as to safeguard University resources.
Supervising implementation of Directorate performance targets.
Head a Section or sub-Section such as Revenue, Expenditure, Students' Accounts,
Budgets, Final Accounts, Salaries, when appointed.
Direct the proper investments of the University funds.
Posts and balances ledger accounts.
Prepares, maintains and controls various project funds.
Prepares University fixed assets register.

Assists in reviewing accounting instruction manuals.


Participates in preparation of final accounts, budgeting and budget controls.
Performs any other related duties as may be by the one's reporting officer.

5.

TELEPHONE OPERATOR II 1 POST

a)

Required Qualifications

Holder of certificate of Secondary Education with credit passes in English, Kiswahili and Geography or
form six who has principal pass in English and has attained certificate in telephone maintainance or
equivalent qualification from VETA or any other recognized Institution.
b)

Duties and Responsibilities.


Make repair of Telephone Receivers both for Extensions and Direct lines for the entire
University.
Make repair of the Telephone cables across the University.
Rectify telephone faulties on daily basis that are reported by staff.
Connect new extensions and direct lines to telephone users.
Fix telephone receivers and cables at various places.
Assists the Telephone Supervisor in preparing the University Telephone Directory.
Arranges telephone repairs/ servicing
Performs any other duties as may be assigned to from time to time by one's reporting
officer.

6. PERSONAL SECRETARY II - 3 POSTS


a) Required Qualification
Form IV certificate with credit passes in Kiswahili and English, plus 80 w.p.m. shorthand and 50
w.p.m. typing speed, tabulation and manuscript stage III, secretarial and office procedure stage II.
Must have sufficient knowledge in computers in at least word processing spreadsheet, database, emails and internet. (Must have computer certificate). Possession of Diploma in Secretarial studies
is mandatory.
b) Experience
Working experience of at least three (3) years in secretarial duties.
c)

Duties and Responsibilities

Handles confidential matters.


Co-ordinates office needs and requirements.
Receives and distributes letters to respective officials.
Receives and directs visitors.
Keeps minutes/records of meetings.
Arranges and attends meetings where necessary and writes minutes.
Receives telephone calls and takes messages.
Handles travel arrangement on duty for senior officers and other members of the
unit/department.
Ensures expedient and accurate execution of duties.
Ensures that copies of letters are properly filed.
Types confidential letters minutes, circulars, certificates, charts and stencils.
Co-ordinates and supervises junior staff.
Ensures cleanliness of the office (s)
Takes proper care of work facilities and equipment.
Ensures that the respective office is punctually open.
Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by ones reporting officer.

7. DRIVER II - 2 POSTS
a)

Required Qualification

Holder of Form IV Certificate with passes in Kiswahili and English plus a clean valid Driving License at
appropriate class and working experience of at least three (3) yearsin a similar position and must also
possess Trade Test Grade II in Motor Vehicle Mechanics and Driving Certificate Grade II from a
recognized Institution such as NIT or VETA.
b)

Duties and Responsibilitie


Drives pool University vehicles safely.
Maintains logbooks.
Ensuresafety of passenger (s) during driving
Ensures safe-keeping of the vehicle and its tools
Maintains disciplined behaviour, smartness and proper conduct in rendering services.
Maintains cleanliness of the vehicle and tools
Reports promptly any defects or problems detected in the vehicle.
Undertakes minor repairs when necessary.
Performs messengerial duties such as dispatching documents/letters and collecting mail.
Checks validity of insurance, TLB, Plying fees etc and reports the same to the Transport
Officer for necessary action.
Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by one's reporting officer.

8. COMPUTER ANALYST I 1 POST


a)

Required Qualification

Holders of B.Sc. degree in Computer Science or Information Systems, Telecommunication, Electronics, or


related computer studies. Plus years (4) years of relevant working experience in similar position.

b)

Duties and Responsibilities


Advice computer users
Analyses designs and programmes medium size applications
Installs standard software and desktop operating systems.
Installs networking hardware /software
Installs moderns and dial up networking
Solve complex hardware/software problems. Manages server operating systems
Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by one's reporting officer.

9. SENIOR LAB SCIENTIST I - 1 POST


a)

Required Qualification

Holder of relevant Master degree in Laboratory Sciences or equivalent, with a relevant working experience
of at least five (5) years in a similar position .Must have been registered by Professional competent
boards/authorities.
b)

Area of Specialization:
Biochemistry
Physiology

c)

Duties and Responsibilities


Designs and supervises construction of experimental test rigs for Postigraduate students
and for other research and development projects.
Conducts consultancy in the area of specialization.
Supervises and orients Lab Assistants
Lab management including: planning and procurement of equipments and Supplies.
Support academic members of staff in the design and conducting of research projects.
Conducts on-the-job training for Lab Assistants.
Repairs and maintains laboratory equipment and facilities.
Organizes and conducts formal training/seminars for technical staff.
Conducts professional development programmes in respective areas of specialization.
Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by one's reporting officer.

10. JANITOR II 1 POST


a)

Required Qualification

Holder of Diploma in Adult Education, Social works, Home Economics or equivalent qualification.
b)

Duties and Responsibilities


Assists in supervising hall attendants.
Assists in enforcing students' rules and regulations.
Assists in keeping and maintaining proper residence records.
Assists in ensuring security in and around halls of residence.
Assists in administration of halls of residence affairs.
Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by one's reporting officer.

10. LABORATORY TECHNICIAN I 1 POST.


a) Required Qualification
Holder of Ordinary Diploma in Laboratory Sciences or Technology, or any other relevant
Diploma from a recognized institution.
b)

Area of Specialization:Clinical Pharmacology

c) Experience
Working experience of at least three (3) years in relevant field

d)

Duties and Responsibilities


Carries out, independently, specified laboratory practicals, which require a higher degree of
technical knowledge and skills.
Implements specified maintenance plans for laboratory facilities/equipments
Implements specified technical plans and designs connected with research, students practical
and consultancy work.
Responsible for day to day supervision or oversight of the laboratory operation and Health
Laboratory Technicians.
Manage Laboratory Supplies and equipments including preparing annual procurement plan.
Provides ongoing performance feedback, and documents the performance of laboratory
personnel.
Activelly plans for laboratory changes summarize data, and prepare reports.
Prepare daily, weekly, monthly maintenance procedures for equipment and prepare practical
teaching schedule(s)

Responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable
levels of analytic performance are maintained.
Assists in students projects and Laboratory practicals and research under close supervision of
laboratory engineers/scientists and academic staff
Performs any other duties as may be assigned by ones reporting officer.
