Scope

The firewater distribution system is a pipe

network dedicated to supply water for fire
fighting purpose from the 1fire pumps to
systems or equipment.
Field devices supplied by the firewater
system include sprinkler, deluge, monitor,
hose-reel and hydrant systems.
The pipe network has been calculated to
supply a determined quantity of pumped
water at pressure during an emergency
event.
3

Required Performance

a) Reliability

100%.

The Reliability is high as the system is

critical to life safety and asset protection.

b) Availability

100%.

Loss of the firewater system would

require
the
platform
Production
Supervisor to assess for reduced or
shutdown of production.
Partial loss would require a contingency
plan to be put in operation i.e. assess and

Maintenance Strategy

The system should be flowed annually with

seawater to flush debris and objects
internally then flowed with potable water
and chemically treated.
All valves should be maintained for
operability and availability annually.
Maintenance will be carried out to a
Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM).

Equipment Function

The firewater system should be available

during an emergency event on demand.
Isolating valves in the system allow small
sections of the network to be temporarily
isolated without shutting down the total
system.
Delay or failure of this system to function
effectively would allow serious escalation
of a fire with unacceptable risk to
personnel.
