After finishing my school, I joined the prestigious University of Delhi for an Honors course in

Geography, which offered a perfect blend of Social science and Natural Science. It fascinated
me to explore the actuality and elements about the physical environment and how it harmonizes
with the Human. My notable enthusiasm was in Environmental Geography, Spatial Dimensions
of Development, and Geography of Natural Resources. My course has not limited my scope to
the study of Physical Environment but has also made me aware of the Social and Political
perspective of Geography. Currently I am studying papers like Social Geography and Political
Geography which are giving me a deep knowledge of geography of poverty, feminism, sex ratio
and other sociopolitical concepts. My previous course module, Spatial Dimensions of
Development has made me well aware of the existing scenario of underdevelopment in African
and Asian countries. I've also analyzed the Human Development Index of the Developing and
Underdeveloped countries which has made me well aware of existing development scenario in
the world. I've also done minor papers in English, Philosophy and Politics which were helpful in
strengthening the multidimensional social science approach.
My previous school education in Physical Sciences and Biology makes me competent to
understand the scientific perspective of the environment and my Bachelors degree in
Geography has made me well aware about the dynamicity of the earth. My previous degrees
core modules like Environmental Geography, Remote Sensing & GIS and Urban Geography will
help me to understand the modules of this MSc course.
Furthermore, I was selected for a summer research fellowship program at a public policy think
tank- Rakshak Foundation, which strengthened my research skills largely and also gave me a
firsthand experience in policymaking and evaluating the existing policies. My Research was
focused on land development in Noida and Gurgaon. This helped me to analyze the extent of
urban development in Indian cities and how this contributes to social and environmental
problems. During my field visits to the industrial town Noida, I was stunned to note the extent of
pollution in River Yamuna due to urban expansion. After this, I was in a deep thought that is it
Development we need or a prospering green environment. Both are equally necessary. I
presume that this taught MSc program will be very advantageous in understanding this. I wish to
comprehend how the development should go hand-in-hand with the environment.
