SUBJECT: Reflection Memo

The writing process implemented for this module followed standard procedure. It first began
with the job listing that started the whole project. From that, research was done in order to focus
the module upon what the company was specifically looking for. After that point, until the end of
the module, drafts were made for each assignment; they were then made into final copies after
revisions from other fellow students.
Multiple revisions were made to the drafts of the module. To begin with, the Gap Analysis was
changed because it was originally quickly written, and did not have any white space formatting
at all. For the Resume, more specific education information was given. Information regarding the
date of graduation, major, and school name was previously left out, but later added in the final
draft. The original draft also left out contact dates at the top, which was added to make it easier
for the reader to send information. The reference for the Resume was also updated with more
information about the contact, as the contact information previously was not detailed enough.
Finally, the application letter was first edited at the second to last sentence for paragraph one. It
was changed to match to correct perspective. The final paragraph also seemed too compressed,
thus edits were made to include more white space. The final paragraph offered too much flattery,
thus the final lines were changed to maintain a needed professional outlook. It was important to
not convey desperateness in the application letter.

Some of the most challenging aspects of the module was simply the general writing of both the
application letter and the Resume. What made it difficult was gearing the writings towards
actually getting the employer to hire you. It seems simple enough on the surface; however, when
you are extremely unqualified for the position you are writing for, it is extremely challenging to
scramble every little quality that would make you stand out. When focusing specifically on the
application letter, it was also important to not overly compliment the company, as it made it seem
less meaningful.
This module has changed my perception towards what it really means to write a plentiful paper.
For example, during the application letter, there were times when simply adding a few extra
words actually did more harm than benefit. It was important to be straight onto the point, and not
to be roundabout with what you want from your reader. Every part of the module built upon each
other; as a result, many key writing lessons were learned during the duration of this writing
assignment.
