General Information
Chinook Fund is a nonprofit organization that supports grassroots social justice movements
across Colorado. Our funding supports the most strategic work unfolding at the local level to
address globalization, poverty, war, racism, sexism, and environmental destruction. We support
democratic, constituent-led groups that work to change entire systems of oppression, rather than
just treat the symptoms.
We believe that long-lasting change comes from within the community, and that members of the
community are most apt to identify the problems that their communities face. This is why our
grantmaking decisions have always been made by an independent committee with members from
a wide variety of socio-economic, racial, and religious backgrounds. This committee meets
several times during our grantmaking cycle to select our grant recipients, all while engaging in
serious conversations about race, class, gender, and other forms of privilege.
By putting the grantmaking power in the hands of community members, we are able to fund
groups and causes that are relevant and effective for the communities in which we serve. For
over twenty-five years, the Chinook Fund has played a critical role in the social justice landscape
of Colorado, and with your help, we will continue to work towards a more just and equitable
society.
