Expo drives for commercialization

of BU products

by Keren Anne V. Bernadas & Gladys R. Ebrada

With the collaborative effort of two centers in

Bicol University (BU), the different BU colleges
took part in this years Techno Expo and Mercatus aimed at commercializing BU products.

During the celebration of BUs 46th Founding
Anniversary, the Extension Service Center (ESC) and
the recently formed Center for Technology Commercialization and Enterprise Development (CTCED)
showcased different production outputs of BU students
and faculty members.
The dual-pegged event does not only exhibit various
products of the colleges and research studies but also
aims to sell them in the market.
According to Engr. Christopher O. Pacardo, director
of CTCED, their partnership with ESC has brought the
products of the university in the national market.
One of the ways to achieve excellence in production
is to sell our very own products not just here in Bicol
but to the neighboring provinces as well. As a matter of
fact, before the products could even reach outside the
Bicol region, it has already been sold out, he said.
He also added that this years Expo is the most participated and has acquired the most relevant products
to the community by far.
Participating colleges in the Expo include the College of Education (CE), College of Business, Economics and Management (CBEM), College of Agriculture
and Forestry (CAF), Polangui Campus (PC), Gubat
Campus (GC), and College of Industrial Technology
(CIT).
CE showcased whitening products for underarms,
CBEM presented their multi-purpose paper charger
while CAF sold their agricultural products and natural
live chickens.
PC showed handicrafts made from pili nut shells,
GC had food vending stations, and CIT presented their
industrial designs for auction.
Meanwhile, the CTCED director emphasized that
production should still be persistently achieved by the
university. He said that all the profits will be utilized
and handed to the campuses for the development of
their researches and for the enhanced creation of other
relevant products.
On the other hand, Nicka France S. David, a senior
BS Entrepreneuship student from PC expressed pride

in her experience because she was given the

chance to deal with other people and be able
to explain how their carrot ice cream and
salabat powder were made.
Proud kami na irepresent yung campus
namin, na dahil sa products namin ay nakikilala din ang school namin. Naiintroduce
namin ang school namin sa ganitong way na
hindi lang kami on merchandising, on buy
and sell, but kami mismo ang nagmamanufacture ng product namin, she said.
Furthermore, there were 16 to 20 stu-

dents from BUPC who participated in the

Expo.
Likewise, Prof. Mary Rose Domdom,
faculty member from the entrepreneurship
department of GC shared her experience in
the event.
The fund used in the production of
products came from the student organization, Young Entrepreneur Society Organization and other members of the faculty. The
proceeds will be turned over to the organization as well. Okay naman yung benta. Ka-

hapon, whole day, naka 6,500 kami. We are

glad we are invited by the research and extension center, she said.
The said centers will announce the minor
and major awards of the expo today over FM
radio station DWFX-FM 89.9. Criteria for
judging include 40% for the presentation of
the products; 30% for the originality of the
products and 30% for the relevance of the
products in the community.

So far po, ang pagkakaiba ng amazing race
ngayon sa mga past amazing race, three to seven [colleges lang ang nagpaparticipate noon].
Ngayon po is 10 colleges. Pero, dapat po talaga,
kumpleto ngayon, kaso may mga nadefault,
Aliston said.
Colleges who were on default were the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP),
College of Science (CS), Gubat Campus (GC)
and Tabaco Campus (TC).
Aliston concluded that GC and CSSP did not
send delegates while CS and TC did not meet
the registrations deadline of the said event.
Moreover, the amazing race covered 10 sta-

tions wherein seven stations are located outside

BU such as Sumlang in Camalig, Cagsawa Ruins, Legazpi Terminal, Pearanda Park, Ligon
