Subject of the lesson: Past Tense Simple - Consolidation
Teaching aims: Helping pupils to move past passive learning to active learning, to find better
ways of engaging themselves in the learning process.
Learning aims: By the end of the lesson students will have:
- Practiced and reinforced Past Tense Simple of regular and irregular verbs
- Personalized the information
- Develop plans for applying the new concepts
- Share the new concepts with others

Aids: the handouts, the irregular verb board, the CD player;

Aim: to help the students switch their mind to English and focus on the grammar point that is
practiced. The chant also has the purpose of releasing stress.

Revision of Past Tense Simple using the personal boxes : 10
Intelligences addressed: intrapersonal, linguistic, visual
Active learning: Dialogue with self. Experience of doing. Observing when others speak.
The teacher asks students to draw one verb from their personal flash card boxes and give the
three forms of the verbs picked. The S who answers correctly names the next S to draw a
verb.

Aim: to raise Ss awareness regarding the rules learnt (Past Tense Simple being under focus)
Teacher has10 slips of paper on which some sentences are written. Some of them are correct,
some are not. The Ss are asked to buy the sentences in an auction. They are grouped in groups
of four and they are given 400 dollars. They are asked to pay attention to the sentences and
they are urged not to buy the fake sentences (meaning the incorrect ones). The group that
has the most correct sentences will be declared the winner. Each sentence will be explained.

The teacher gives the start sentence. Then T calls a S to continue the story.
That S calls a S2 to add a sentence to the story Eg. Once upon a time in a dark wood there

1. The Ss are given handouts with the following crossword puzzle to solve:
They are given the first form of the verb and are asked to find the 2nd form in the square.

2. Creative writing: In groups of four the Ss are asked to draw 10 or 15 verbs
from their own irregular verb -flash card boxes and to use the past tense
forms of these verbs into a short meaningful composition. Each Ss will write
his the group's composition on his own copybook and when the activity is done
each member of the group mingles with the other groups and share his/her
composition. Then he/ she listens in his/her turn to his classmates' group's compositions.
