OPERATOR ACTION
Check and note down the relay flags appeared in LTG panel for 513-CB-4. Initiate
action accordingly as given below :

(a)
Check WAN-622 (gas collection alarm) has also appeared.
(b)
Check the parameters of SUT-1 such as voltage, current, MWe,
temperatures, oil level etc.
(c)
Check the oil level in the Bucholz relay has decreased. Inform EMU/
Chemical lab for taking gas sample and analyze.
(d)
Inform EMU/OS about the alarm.
This WAN appearance of Indicates slight incipient transformer internal fault, if
the alarm is genuine. In such a case the transformer has to be taken out of
service at the earliest after EMU clearance.

In case alarm is due to relay 30B, 30F, 30H, 30N, 30Q, 30R, 30S, 30T, 30U,
30V or OLC, SUT-1 will continue to be in service.
In case the alarm is due to relay 30A, 30C, 30D, 30E or 30G. SUT-1 will trip.
Its HV/LV breakers will trip and ATS will initiate.
EFFECT ON OTHER SYSTEM
Station auxiliary load will be completely on UT. If UT/GT/Turbine trips under such
condition then there will be Class-IV power supply failure.

Check healthiness of all the above relays and WAN loop.
Inform SME(E) / OS.

If SUT trips due to actuation of main protection then fast ATS will initiate and
station auxiliary loads will be transferred to UT.
If the SUT tripping is due to back up protection operation then fast ATS will not
initiate. This will result in Reactor trip followed by TG tripping. Class-IV power
failure will take place and EMTR will initiate.
EFFECT ON OTHER SYSTEM
If SUT trips due to bus bar protection (Relay-496), all feeders connected to that 220
kV main bus will also trip along with SUT.

Check air pressure, if less than 14.1 Kg/cm, check air compressor is
running.
Check the moisture drain valve located below the air receivers is
closed.
Check for any air leaks. If leak are such that air pressure is not building
up then take CB-1 in service in place of this CB. Refer procedure PRElect-24.

Check SF6 pressure in locally, if less than 5.8 Kg/cm inform EMU to
make up SF6 gas. Ask EMU to check for any SF6 leak.
C17X :
If this relay is flagged, then breaker will not trip even on protection
operation or manually. Try to restore the air pressure to normal value
immediately by using temporary compressor or N 2 cylinder and SF6
pressure boost up.
Check & ensure the 220V DC MCB for TC-1 & 2, located inside the
compressor local panel is ON.
Check 220V DC trip coil-1 control supply availability. Also check 295X
relay is not flagged, i.e. trip coil-2 is healthy.
295X :
Check 220V DC trip coil-2 control supply availability. Also check 195X
relay is not flagged, i.e. trip coil-1 is healthy.
80C :
Check WAN-624(521 SUT-1 BREAKER TRIP & LOCK OUT ) & WAN-640(220
kV BREAKER POLE DISCRIPANCY) also appears. Check SUT-1 HV & LV
breakers have tripped and ATS has initiated.
50ZX :
Check all the feeders connected to the main bus (to which SUT-1 is
connected) have tripped on LBB protection, including bus coupler
breaker CB-1.

EFFECT ON SYSTEM
In case breaker operation is locked out and at the same time CB protection appears,
then LBB protection will actuate. This will result in tripping of all the feeders of that
particular main bus to which the affected CB is connected.

In KAPS Unit-1 auto transfer will take place. Station auxiliary load will get
transferred to UT-1. Check fast auto transfer is successful.

In KAPS Unit-2, unit will come on house load due to tripping of Generator CB11. Reactor setback will initiate and Reactor power will come down to 70% FP
through steam dumping. Immediately turbine speed is to be reduced to normal
value.

Check air pressure from field indicator, check compressor has cut off on auto,
if not investigate the reason of compressor not tripping on auto.
195X :
Check 220V DC trip coil-1 control supply availability. Also check 295X relay is
not flagged, i.e. trip coil-2 is healthy.
295X :
Check 220V DC trip coil-2 control supply availability. Also check 195X relay is
not flagged, i.e. trip coil-1 is healthy.
80C :
If compressor is not started on auto, check starter push button (green colour)
is pressed inside the local panel.

OPERATOR ACTION
This alarm will appear if both bus selector DS (one connecting to Main Bus-I and the
other to main Bus-II) remains closed for more than 20 sec. Following are the different
bus selector isolators :

Check that any DS was closed as a part of load transfer operation, prior to the
appearance of alarm. Check at bus bar differential CT switching panel for
paralleling operation of bus bar DS from CT switching relays.
If load transfer operation was not under progress, check from the control room
DS indication lamps, which of the two bus selector isolators have got closed
(for a CB).
Check from LTG panel of CB-2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13 for which CB,
2/29 relay has flagged.
Send persons to field to check the status of the DS from which alarm has
appeared.
Check 415V AC/220V DC supply to DS. This is normally kept off in switchyard.
Investigate the cause of closure of DS, if DS is found close.
Inform SME (E)/OS.
Open DS which has closed spuriously, after SME (E) clearance.
Keep the 415V AC isolator in OFF condition for all the DS in PDB-109 & 110.
So also 220V DC supply to all DS.
Check healthiness of relay 2/29 for all the above DS nos.
EFFECT ON SYSTEM
If both bus selector DS paralleled and any fault occur in any one bus, both Bus-I &
Bus-II feeders will trip.

Check from LTG panel, the 220 kV CB number for which relay 97, 97X1 &
97XX have flagged. Reset the relays and check alarm clears.
Check for any other relay flags existing.
Note down any other WAN appearing.
If this relay appears for a particular CB due to actual VT fuse failure, then the
backup protection for that breaker is not available, but main protection is
available. Provided bus coupler CB is in closed condition.
If the above relay appears for all the feeders connected to a particular 220 kV
main bus due to actual VT fuse failure, then it is suspected that the main VT
fuse (16 A or 10 Amps.) might have failed. Even during such condition, all
main protection will be available and will be getting VT signal from the other
220 kV main bus EMVT (Through a auto changeover circuit), provided bus
coupler CB is in closed condition. Back up protection will not be available
during the above condition also. Inform EMU & get the problem rectified at the
earliest.
Check all main protections are healthy.
In consultation with SME(E)/OS/WREB, take the affected feeder out of
service.
EFFECT ON SYSTEM
Back up protection will not be available for the affected feeders whenever the above
alarm appears, if the actual VT fuse has failed.

The above breakers can be closed if voltage, frequency & phase angle across the
above breakers are within limits. Whenever a breaker is to be closed on dead bus
synchronisation bypass PB is to be pressed, after selecting CB for synchronization
(with the help of key). Then logic will permit to close the CB without checking
synchronization. As soon as above push button is pressed, WAN-635 (Synch
bypassed) will appear, alerting the Control Engineer about the bypassing of the
synch. check relay.

Check and ensure that the CB closure being attempted (on synch.
Bypass mode) is on dead bus.
(2)
If the above alarm appears without pressing the synch. bypass push button
then inform EMU.
(3)
Before the above alarm is made healthy, do not attempt to close any CB.
(4)
A breaker should not be closed on synch. bypass mode when both sides
of CB are energised., even though they are from the same source.
(5)
Check healthiness of relay 25 BY-2 & WAN loop.

OPERATOR ACTION
This alarm will appear when any /or all the following conditions exist :
(a)
Differential relay check zone operated and differential relay Zone-A
operated LED appears.
(b)
Differential relay check zone operated and differential relay zone-C
operated LED appears.
(c)
Check zone out of service LED appears and zone-A operated LED
appears.
(d)
Check zone out of service LED appears and zone-C operated LED
appears.
Whenever this alarm appears following actions are required.
(1)
Note down the zone of operation (Check zone, Zone-A, Zone-C). Note down
the phase in which the bus bar differential relay has actuated (Phase-A/B/C)
from bus bar differential relay panel located in LTG panel area.
(2)
Note down the 220 kV main bus on which differential relay has actuated,
resulting in tripping of that main bus/feeders.
(3)
Note down the feeders connected to the tripped 220 kV main bus and check
all feeders connected to the tripped 220 kV main bus have also tripped along
with CB-1 and check affected bus voltage is zero.
(4)
Note down all the window alarms appearing on electrical panel.
(5)
Check the EDAS printout and try to find out the initiating event.
(6)
Send persons to switchyard to do physical survey to find out any abnormality,
such as insulator flashover, insulator failure, bus bar failure, LA failure, LA
flashover, DS insulator failure, Moose conductor failure etc.
(7)
Check whether the tripped transmission lines are in charged condition from
other end and enquire about the reason for not tripping at their end.
(8)
From above point no. (4), (5), (6) identify the faulty feeder. Connect the
remaining feeders to the healthy bus.

appeared, indicating only check zone has sensed fault.
Check for any electrical WAN has appeared along with WAN-637.
Inform SME(E)/OS.
After clearance from EMU reset the check zone operated LED.
Check healthiness of 87 relay during PSD & WAN loop.
EFFECT ON SYSTEM
If check zone LED appears and Zone-A or Zone-C operated LED does not appears,
then this will not lead to any tripping of 220 kV main buses. B-B protection remains
available for both main buses.

OPERATOR ACTION
Check the relays flagged on the B-B differential at relay panel.
If 97YX relay is flagged, then check following power supplies for healthiness :
(a) 240V AC MCB-285 65510-PL-8.
(b) 220V DC Bus-U feeder-16.
(c) 220V DC Bus-V feeder-17.
If any of the above supply is failed, get it rectified.
If the 97Y relay is flagged, then check whether the LED Zone out of service
is appearing in check zone or Zone-A or Zone-C, Module of B-B differential
relay panel.
Note down any other WAN appearing apart from above WAN.
Note down any other electrical relays appearing in LTG panel.
Check all the CT switching relays for proper status.
If B-B protection remains unavailable due to problem; then decision is to taken
for transferring all feeders to the healthy 220 kV main bus.
Inform SME(E)/OS regarding the alarm and get the problem rectified
immediately.
EFFECT ON SYSTEM
If this LED appears for check zone then check zone Module is not available.
But B-B protection is available for both 220 kV main buses through Zone-A
and Zone-B Modules without the help of check zone.
If this LED appears in either Zone-A or Zone-C Module, then B-B protection
will not be available for 220 kV main Bus-I or 220 kV main Bus-II respectively
even though the check zone is healthy.

Check CB trouble WAN appears for the CB which has not tripped, even after
lockout relay actuation & CB Trip & Lockout for other CBs.
Check all the feeders connected to main bus (to which the above CB is
connected) have tripped on LBB protection, including CB-1 (Bus coupler).
Investigate the problem for LBB protection operation.
Inform EMU / OS / SLDC/ Concern sub-station / WRLDC.
Normalise the tripped feeders on the healthy main bus except the CB for
which LBB has appeared.
Check healthiness of auxiliary relay 50ZX (LBB prot. relay) & WAN loop.
EFFECT ON SYSTEM
In case LBB protection appear on breaker, then all the feeders connected to that 220
kV main bus will also trip.

Check the WAN No. appearing along with WAN-640, like breaker trouble or
breaker trip.
Check from the Control Room breaker indication lamp (slow flashing), that
breaker has tripped.
From LTG panel check the breaker number for which relay C10X has flagged.
Send persons to field to check all the three poles of the affected breaker have
opened.
Check for any abnormality in that breaker such as air leakage etc.
Inform SME(E)/OS/Power Grid/WRLDC/Concern Sub-station (In case of line
breaker).
If the breaker requires maintenance, then take CB-1 in place of the affected
CB, after transferring all the loads to main Bus-I.
Check healthiness of C-10X relay of CB-1, 2, 4 to 13 & WAN loop.
