Challenge:
Design a hands-on STEM activity for girls and the winner
will get to present it at a Girls & STEM Expo!
Guidelines:
Activity should relate to at least one area of STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering & Math)
Must be a hands-on activity that can be done in a group
Must be completed within 45 minutes or less
Must be appropriate for middle or high schoolers
Submit your activity via writing, picture and/or video
REQUIRED: include a list of materials, instructions, and how the activity
relates to a career in STEM
The more creative the better!
Prize:
The winner will be invited to a Spring 2016 expo to present their activity
for middle or high school girls
$50 Amazon Gift Card

By participating in this contest, the applicant accepts and agrees to comply with these official rules.
Eligibility:
This contest is open to all girls, ages 11-18, in Connecticut and you must have your parents signature
on your submission form (next page).
Entry:
You must submit an entry form with your activity (you may include a picture, drawing, and/or video to
explain your activity all entries must include a written description of your activity including a list
of materials, instructions for the activity, and how the activity relates to a career in a STEM areasee sample activity write-up). You may submit up to three activities and must complete a separate
entry with each activity. Entries must be submitted via email to: aberardi@cwealf.org.
By entering, you acknowledge, agree and understand that each entry activity is (a) wholly original; (b)
does not incorporate or include ANY materials that would require the consent of a third party; and, (c)
does not violate ANY copyright, trademark, publicity right, privacy right or any right of the third party.
CWEALF has the right to edit, change, or modify the activity, video, picture, and/or drawing for any
purpose which it deems necessary or desirable, without the need for any compensation or permission.
Deadline:
You must submit your design by Friday, October 30th, 2015 at 5:00 pm.
Prize:
One winner will be selected to win a $50.00 Amazon gift card and four tickets to the CT Science Center.
The winner will be invited to a spring 2016 expo to present their activity for middle or high school girls.
The expo will be selected based on the date, time, and location that is the most convenient for the
student.
Selection of winner:
All entries will be screened and those that comply with the rules and have met the guidelines and
specifications will be judged by CWEALF staff and volunteers. The winner will be notified by telephone,
email or mail on or about November 13th, 2015.

Rules:
You may barter and/or exchange materials (food items) with other teams.
You may NOT just take materials from another team.
You may use a limited amount of some other materials in building your structure, including
the flats or boxes your food items came in, and tape or paper made available to you.
You do not need to use all of the food items you have been assigned in building your
structure.
Judging:
Structures will be judged and prizes awarded to Best Design and Most Creative Design. The
teams explanation of design choices will be considered in the judging.
The food items you are using today will be donated to a food pantry.
