FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. When will I hear about my exam results?

A. The final ratified exam results will be available via MyDMU on Tuesday 30th June 2015.
Final year students who have achieved an award will be able to view their Higher Education
Achievement Report (HEAR) shortly after this date. The HEAR will be issued electronically by
DMU via a secure electronic document service. If this applies to you, you will receive further
information about how and where to access your HEAR.
Q. I have viewed my exam results online via MyDMU but do not understand what is
written.
A. An email will be sent to you from the Faculty Office on the day the results are released
which provides further information. Please read this carefully as it contains important
information about your results and options.

gives lots of information about progressing from one level to another, resit opportunities,

Q. My results email says I can receive compensation for a failed module. What does this
mean?
A. University regulations allow you to be compensated for up to 30 credits of fails where you
have achieved a mark of at least 30% (with some provisions). If this applies to you, you are
awarded compensating credits which contribute to the requirements for progression. You would
not be required to retake the failed module. Your results email will detail any modules that are
eligible for compensating credits.
Q. I have my exam results and have failed module(s), what do I do now?
A. Firstly look at your progression decision to see if you are permitted to resit. You are
permitted 60 credits worth of reassessment at each level.
If you need to resit an exam, then you are required to complete a module reassessment form
which is available from the Student Advice Centre, who will also advise you on the process. The
form is also available on BlackBoard and can be completed and emailed to
clinsciadmin@dmu.ac.uk. This should be done as soon as possible to ensure you are
registered for the resit, and no later than Friday 31st July 2015.
Q. If I have failed a Module which is coursework only submission for e.g. Professional
Skills and wish to resit this Module what do I need to do?
A. Contact the relevant Module Leader (e.g. Dr Pickering) to inform them that you need to resit
the Module as you may need to attend timetabled teaching sessions next academic year in
order to complete required coursework. You will also need to complete a module reassessment
form to register to retake coursework.
Q. I was unable to attend my exam due to mitigating circumstances for e.g. due to
illness?
A. The deadline date for deferral requests has now passed. Please contact the Faculty Office
at clinsciadmin@dmu.ac.uk for advice if this applies to you.

Q. I think I have done really badly and would like to repeat the year.
A. Firstly, wait until you have received your results. If you are a first year student and have
achieved a minimum of 30 credits then you may qualify for an automatic option to repeat your
first year. If this is the case, you will receive an email setting out your options.
In all other cases, a repeat year is usually only agreed under exceptional circumstances. You
may apply in writing to the Head of Studies, Dr Elaine Woodland edw@dmu.ac.uk. You must
provide third party evidence to support your case.
Q. If I have to resit an exam / retake coursework, will the mark be capped?
A. Yes any resits are capped at 40%. The exam resit timetable is available via MyDMU.
Q. I am unhappy about my exam results and would like to appeal.
A. Please remember that exam scripts are subject to a rigorous internal marking process and
are moderated externally by External Examiners prior to final release of exam results. If you
feel you would like to appeal, please read the Appeal Process and documentation on the DMU

Q. I would like to apply for a postgraduate course, apply for jobs, sandwich placement
and require a referencewho do I need to contact?
A. You should contact your Personal Tutor by email in plenty of time if a reference is required.
Do not wait till the last minute as the reference may not be provided in time.
