Containing Medicaid Costs: State Strategies to Fight Medicaid Fraud and


Abuse Monday March 19, 2012

Across the nation, states are looking to contain the rising cost of
Medicaid. Fraud and abuse control efforts-designed to prevent, identify,
and prosecute improper payments and unlawful behavior that increase health
care costs-offer an approach that everyone can support. Learn about new
opportunities under the Affordable Care Act and hear what states are doing
to prevent Medicaid fraud and abuse, recover improper payments, and address
these issues in Medicaid managed care programs.
Agenda
Overview and Federal Update: Patricia MacTaggart, Lead Research Scientist,
GWU (20 minutes)
NY state example: Mark Hennessey, Assistant Medicaid Inspector General for
Legislative & Intergovernmental Affairs (15 minutes focus on: successful
recovering program and new prevention strategies)
TX state example: Jack Stick, Deputy Inspector General of Enforcement (15
minutes focus on: successful F&A within Medicaid managed care and new
prevention strategies)
