///On the airship///
Basic objective: Light the candle.
Treasures:
Cargo Room- 47 gil, Potion
Note: The treasures are only available before lighting the candle.
--Event battle in the cargo room
Lv 1
Type: Human
HP/MP: 188/223
Gil/AP: 805/0
Steal: Potion, Wrist, Mage Masher
Weak: none
Note: The result is the same even if you manage to lose.
--On stealing: A monster or boss may carry up to four stealable items,
classified 256/256, 64/256, 8/256 and 1/256. The numbers correspond to the
probability of a successful steal. Some enemies carry some types but not
others; I will present stealable items in order and indicate gaps with a
(none) when applicable.
On boss info: You should read the information given on bosses before fighting
them. When applicable, I will give advice for preparing for the battle.
Note: After the battle, if you choose the incorrect dialogue option 64 times,
you get a very brief extra scene.
///Alexandria///
Basic objectives: Visit the ticket booth then meet up with the rat kid. You
can freely explore the town. You can also get card game and mognet tutorials.
Treasure:
Main Street (starting place)- Potion (2)
Main Street (statue)- Potion, Lizard Man card, Zombie card, Sahagin card
Residence (on main street)- 9 gil, Potion, Fang Card
Main Street (pub)- 33 gil, Goblin card
Pub- 27 gil, Potion, Flan Card
Item Shop- 38 gil
Square- Phoenix Pinion (wheelbarrow near gate); Goblin card, Fang card,
Skeleton card (from ticket booth)
Synthesist- Ether
Residence (by the steeple)- 3 gil, Eye drops
Steeple- Potion, Tent, moogle (Kupo); Ironite card, Fang card, Goblin card (up
the ladder)
Mognet: from Kupo to Monty
Rooftop- 29 gil, 63 gil, 92 gil
Note:
When you run into rat kid a second time, you may refuse the his
request in order to get the set of cards at the Steeple, then come back later

for him. You cannot get them if you go there with him. And once you climb the
Steeple with the rat kid you can't go back to town, so be ready.
When a stranger walks down the alley, he will mug you for 50 gil if you
don't catch him when the field icon pops up. If you do catch him, you get a
card tutorial.
Kupo is not at the Steeple until you go there with the rat kid.
There is a widespread false rumor that if you deliver this and all Mognet
letters without throwing any away or missing any up to disk 3, you can do a
certain side quest early, in disk 3. This is wrong; You cannot do it in disk
3. You can do it in disk 4 regardless of how many letters you delivered. (The
quest will be mentioned at the appropriate time.)
On card arrows: When you find or are given a card, the arrow arrangement on it
is randomly determined. You can "reroll" the arrows until they are in a
configuration to your liking by reloading your save and getting the card over
again. You may want to do this when dealing with rare cards.
+++
Mini game: Jump rope (Difficult)
Speak to the girls at the town square to play. You'll get rewards for
jumping enough times. You only get each reward once. You can push the square
button to jump to avoid wearing out your X button. (You can push either X or
square at any field icon.) The rate changes after 20, 50, 100, 200 and 300
jumps.
You can play this mini game again but not till much later in the game.

Side quest: Help Tom (Easy)
Reward: Bomb card
Tom is at the docks by the steeple. After offering help, you must speak to
Tom again so he can tell you what to look for. You can find it somewhere in
town. When you are done, go all the way back to Tom for your reward.
+++
Mini game: The duel (Difficult)
After Vivi's scenario and the mock battle, you must fight in the duel.
There are 50 prompts to push a button or a direction. You are scored on
whether you push the correct one and how fast you enter it. If you didn't make
any mistakes but still scored below 100, you weren't quick enough. After the
battle, you will receive gil as your reward, max of 10000 for the highest
score. You will also receive an item later on:

Moonstone
It's not hard to win the Silk Shirt, but it may take many tries to win the
Moonstone, which is a rare item (but not very useful). If you are determined
to get it, try resting your thumbs at the center of the D-pad and the buttons:

this will cut your reation time, though you will be more likely to make
mistakes.

///Alexandria Castle///
Basic objective: Follow the trail.
Treasures:
Guardhouse- moogle (Mosh)
Mognet: *from Kupo to Mosh
Note: Mognet letters that you can read but which you are not asked to deliver
are marked with a "*".
Note: You must return to the throne room to get your reward for the duel mini
game. If you actually managed to get the Moonstone, there's no need to equip
it now because there is no combat.
Side quest: Find the knights (Easy)
Reward: Elixir
This side quest is available when you can freely explore the castle. If
you find all the other knights (there is a roster in the guardhouse) you get
an elixir from Breireicht in the west tower. The knight running around in
hallway near the dining rooms is a little tricky to catch.
///Prima Vista///
Treasures:
Engine Room- Phoenix Pinion, Phoenix Down (mess with the engine controls)
Note: The Phoenix Pinion performs the same function as a Phoenix Down, except
it can only be used in battle. The Pinion may not be bought until much later
and allows a character to learn a certain skill. I recommend that you not blow
your Phoenix Pinions when a Phoenix Down can do the same job.

Basic Objective: Go looking in the forest again.
Treasures:
Spring- free healing, moogle (Monty)
Mognet: from Kupo to Monty
*from Stiltzkin to Monty
Moogle Flute, Continental Map (key items) (given at exit)
On Mognet letters: In general you can't go back to get Mognet letters that you
missed. The moogle just won't ask you to deliver it if you come back after
advancing in the story.
Monsters: Goblin, Fang
Tip: If you are just going to use Zidane for stealing, you should put him in
the back row. Zidane can eventually learn a useful ability that does damage
based on how many times you've stolen. Also note that only ordinary items can
be stolen from ordinary monsters (i.e., no equipment, with the exception of
gems from monsters later in the game), though some of these items are not
easily bought, like Ethers.
--Boss in the Evil Forest
Level: 7
HP/MP: 916/1431
Gil/AP: 468/5
Steal: Eye Drops, Iron Helm
Abilities: Right Tentacle, Thunder, Pollen, Left Tentacle
Weak: Fire
Tip: It's not to your advantage to issue commands to all four characters as
soon as their ATB fills; the enemy will always take its turns regardless of
how quickly you enter commands. Very fast enemies can act between every one of
your actions, so it's more effective to attack with two or three power
characters than to have everyone act. And it's also a good idea to leave at
least one character standing ready to be a healer if necessary.
--///Gunitas Basin///
Basic Objective: Reach the cavern south of here.
Monsters: Goblin, Mu, Python
On back attacks: When you get back attacked, the row arrangement of your
characters is reversed, back to front and front to back. Back row characters
take half damage from, and deal half damage to, the enemy with physical
attacks.
Ability note: Panacea (Rod) only cures Poison and Venom.
///North Gate (Melda Plains)///
Note: This place is optional. You get extra dialogue if you come here.
Treasures:
Melda Arch- Potion, Eye Drops

There's also something else if you examine the gate.

///Ice Cavern///
Basic Objective: Get to the other side.
Monsters: Cave Imp, Flan
Note: As you might have guessed, everything in here is weak against fire.
Tip: You will get an encounter if you run into the blowing wind currents. If
you want to avoid extra encounters, wait for the currents to subside before
crossing.
Treasures:
Ice Path (1st screen)- Tent
Ice Path (2nd screen)- Ether (behind the ice wall), Potion (around the
platform)
Ice Path (3rd screen)- Potion, Mage Masher (burn down the ramp), Elixir
(behind the ice wall)
Ice Path (4th screen)- Phoenix Down, Leather Wrist (behind ice wall)
Cave (left from 5th screen)- Moogle (Mois)
Mognet: from Mois to Gumo
Ice Path (7th screen, right from 5th screen and down the path)- boss battle
Ability note: Detect (Mage Masher) presents stealable items in reverse order;
i.e., the easiest steal is listed last.
On Tents: Tents restore only 1/2 of every character's HP and MP. You may need
to use two to restore completely. If used in battle, the tent restores 1/2 of
the target's HP/MP but also inflicts Darkness/Silence/Poison 1/3 of the time.
You can try this against troublesome bosses.
--Boss battle in the Ice Cavern
(Mage)
Lv 2
Type: Human
HP/MP: 229/9,999
Gil/AP: 134
Steal: Remedy, Silk Shirt

Abilities: Blizzard, Fire, Hit
(Monster)
Lv 3
Type: Flying
HP/MP: 472, 9,999
Steal: Ether, Mythril Dagger
Weak: Fire
Guard: Earth, Water
Absorb: Ice
Abilities: Wing, Blizzard, Tsunami, Blizzara
Gil/AP: 339/5
Note: Only Zidane fights in this battle.
Tip: If you want to steal from them, start the battle in the back row, then
move up when you're ready to fight. This is your first chance to get an item
(Mythril Dagger) that teaches Bandit, an ability which increases Zidane's
steal rate.

On Trance: Zidane may Trance in this battle. Keep in mind that all of his Dyne
abilities inflict non-elemental damage. When a character Trances, they do more
damage with attacks, one of their commands changes, and they become immune to
most status ailments. The number of actions you can perform during Trance is
dependent on Spirit. Spirit also affects how quickly the gauge fills up. The
meter does not decrease if you don't take actions during Trance.
--///Nolrich Heights///
Basic Objective: Reach the town in the distance.
Monsters: Carve Spider, Mu, Python
+++
Side quest: Friendly monsters (Irritating)
Reward: Lots of AP
You may encounter friendly monsters in certain areas. You'll know when you
meet one because the battle music will be different. It doesn't attack, never
has anything to steal, and cannot be killed. (If you attack it and chase it
away you may encounter it again though.)
Each monster asks for some type of stone; if you give it, the monster will
drop a lot of AP and mention the next monster in the sequence. (It will not
mention the next monster's location, however.) If the next monster demands a
stone other than Ores, you'll be given that stone. You need not meet them in
the proper sequence, but I recommend it in order to more easily keep track of
which ones you have encountered.
It may take many tries before you encounter the friendly monster, and not
some regular monster. You may want to delay the encounter until you are ready
to receive the AP. If you give all the monsters in the sequence what they ask
for you get a special reward (mentioned later). The Friendly Monster appendix
has all of the information tabulated.
Friendly monster: (Nolrich Heights)
Mu- asks for 1 Ore, gives 10 AP, Potion
On Ores: Don't blow your Ores for healing. Try to hang onto them because
toward the end of the game you can use them to get better items.
+++
Side quest: Ragtime Mouse (Irritating)
Reward: Protect Ring
During your travels you will eventually encounter a monster called the
Ragtime Mouse who asks you "pop quiz" questions about various trivia in the
game. You can only meet him in forests, and the music is different during
these encounters. It's the same as the friendly monster music, and like the
friendly monsters you can't kill him.
He asks a total of 16 true-false questions, only one per encounter. You
answer by attacking (or targeting any ability at) the True or False symbols.
If you target the mouse, he will run away and the question doesn't count
toward the total; i.e., he will ask the same question again in a later
encounter. If you don't answer within the time limit it's counted as wrong.
Once you answer all of them, and then encounter him a 17th time, you will
receive the reward. For every correct answer you get some gil, and the mouse
will tell you your current percentage correct. If you get every question
right, you will also get a small amount of exp (23,852) and a fair sum of gil
(59,630) after the 17th encounter. (More important, you still get the Protect
Ring regardless of how many of the stupid questions you got right.)
The problem is actually encountering the mouse. The chance of randomly
meeting him in a forest is quite low. There have been a number of tricks

devised to increase the rate of encountering him (and not the regular
monsters), the most effective of which is the baby steps method. In any
forest, take tiny steps by just tapping the D-pad. You can facilitate this in
a small forest by holding L1 or R1 and tapping up or down. Then let go of the
controls before the battle music begins. It's time consuming but still far
faster than the other methods. You can complete this quest any time there's a
forest nearby.
I was going to give hints for the questions but they are so specific that
it's impossible. I have, however, presented them in logical order, the order
in which it is chronologically possible to learn the answer to each question.
But the mouse doesn't ask them in any particular order. To reduce spoilage,
the answer is given as a number; find the character corresponding to the
number, counting from the beginning of the line. If it's a space, the answer
is true. If it's any other character, false.

///Dali///
Basic Objective: Explore the village and round everyone up.
ATE: You are shown a choice of two ATEs but you can only watch one; to see the
other you have to move to another screen. Typically this is how it works when
there are multiple ATE paths to follow. From now on I will only mention ATEs
when there is a chance you could miss one or they involve treasure.
Treasures:
Inn (bedroom)- Potion, Antidote
Village Road- 120 gil
Field- there is a chest here you can't reach now
Windmill 1F- Aries (key item), there is a door here you can't open now
Windmill 2F- two unreachable chests
Mayor's house- you can't explore here now

Moogle: Gumo (Inn)

Mognet: from Mois to Gumo
New equipment:
Feather Hat

200 gil

Ability note: Add Status (Feather Hat) works much less than half the time;
i.e., when you hit a target while using Add Status and an appropriate weapon,
usually the effect is not added.
On gil: Gil is plentiful. It is not necessary to sell equipment to help pay
for new equipment if you are fighting a reasonable amount of random
encounters. Furthermore, your old equipment can find use as components in
systhesized items, so hanging onto it couldn't hurt.
On new equipment: The purpose of marking new equipment is so that you know
where to find it if you want to go back and buy it. You can also use this
information to cross reference it in another FAQ. I will mark equipment as new
if it is the first opportunity to buy it and it is not found in any previous
dungeon; I will still mark it as new if it could have been found by stealing
or from a side quest. If it is possible to get the treasure by some other
means soon afterward (e.g., stealing), I will make this clear so that miserly
players can avoid the expenditure.
Dali undergound
Main Objective: Search for the missing character.
Treasures:
Entrance (of underground)- 156 gil
Underground- Potion, Eye Drops
Storage Area (1st screen)- Potion, Ether, moogle (Kumop)
Mognet: from Kumop to Mogki
Storage Area (2nd screen)- Leather Wrist, Iron Helm
Production Area- 95 gil
Note: Once you open the wooden doors, you will have an encounter, and there
will be random encounters down here.
Monsters: Ghost
Tip: Ghosts are undead. That means you can use curative and life magic
against them. But you already knew that.
Underground (behind wooden doors)- Phoenix Down, Potion, Phoenix Pinion
Base (of mountain)- 135 gil, Hi-potion
Ability note: Level Up (Iron Helm) gives the character 50% more exp. I
recommend that all characters who learn it should use it. (except Zidane if
his stones are more needed elsewhere; or if you don't want his level much
higher than the others')
--Boss at Dali

Tip: This boss counters black magic by returning it. You could just use sword
magic.
--Side quest: Help Morrid (Easy)
Reward: Mini Theater Ship
If you don't get on the cargo ship just yet, you can visit the old man
living at the observatory mountain. Here you can agree to bring him three
particular key items. This is your only chance to undertake this quest, but
you won't be able to complete it for a long time.

the battle, even if he get's KO'ed. You can focus multiple times for a
cumulative effect.

Ability note: Cover (Linen Cuirass) is pretty worthless (along with Protect
Girls) because they only work against physical attacks.
What's That?! (Butterfly Sword) causes the enemy to turn their backs. This
allows you to do extra damage with physical attacks. However, it doesn't deter
them from taking their next move, which means you'll have to hit them fast to
benefit from it. It is not helpful for stealing or for running away.
Soul Blade (The Ogre) inflicts the status effect of the thief sword and
always succeeds against a target with no protection against it. It is
extremely useful, especially with some of the weapons you get later.
Millionaire (Yellow Scarf) gets you 50% extra gil after battle.
Tip: You should do your shopping now because when the next scenario starts,
you won't have an opportunity. I recommend getting at least The Ogre and a
Yellow Scarf. Glass Armlets will also be useful a little later on.
+++
Mini Game: Festival of the Hunt
Reward: Master Hunter (key item), and 5000 gil, Coral Ring, or Theater Ship
card
There are monsters set loose in town; killing them nets you points. You're
competing with other hunters to get the highest score within 12 minutes.
The approximate point values for the monsters are:
Monster
Points
Mu
10
Trick Sparrow 10
Fang
20
Zaghnol
75
In each district you can fight:
Theater District
2 Trick Sparrows, 1 Mu, 1 Fang
Industrial District
3 Mu's, 1 Fang
Business District
1 Trick Sparrow, 1 Mu, 3 Fangs, 1 Zaghnol
Beast Killer (Leather Wrist) and Bird Killer (Yellow Scarf) abilities and
The Ogre sword are useful for killing the monsters quickly. The regular
monsters don't have anything to steal and give no awards for killing them
other than their point values. The Zaghnol does not appear until there is only
4:30 left. When you fight him, Freya will show up to help. She starts the
battle in the back row. You can steal Mythril Gloves and a Needle Fork from
the Zaghnol. The Silk Shirt is useful for surviving the Zaghnol's lightning.
Zidane, Freya, or Vivi may win the contest; None of those other hunters
ever win. Zidane will win (reward: 5000 gil) by earning more points than Freya
and not getting KO'ed. Killing the Zaghnol helps but is not necessary; He can
win by killing everything else. Freya will win (Coral Ring) by default if

Zidane doesn't score enough points or gets KO'ed. Vivi will win (Theater Ship
card) if both Freya and Zidane get KO'ed in the Zaghnol fight. (Freya must
bite the dust first or else she wins.) The Coral Ring is probably the most
useful reward of these three. You also get the Master Hunter key item
regardless of who wins.

After the Hunt
Basic objective: Exit through the Dragon's Gate.
Treasures:
Serpent's Gate- Wyerd card
Dragon's Gate- Tent, moogle (Moonte)
Mognet: *from Stiltzkin to Moonte
///Eunorus Plains///
Basic objective: Head north to the cavern. There are some side quests you can
take on now.
Monsters: Hedgehog Pie, Ladybug, Serpion, Vice, Clipper (Lachenta Wetland)
+++
Side quest: Qu's Marsh
Reward: new character
If you head north from Dragon's gate you'll run into Qu's Marsh. Head
north in the marsh and you'll have to option of getting a new character. If
you don't get him now, you'll get him in disk 2. You can do it now so he
starts learning new abilities sooner, or later so your three characters get
more exp. from battles now.
Monsters: Gigan Toad, Clipper
Side quest: Catching frogs
If you got Quina, you can catch frogs at this marsh. You will get rewards
for catching frogs, and the number of frogs caught also increases the power of
Quina's Frog Drop ability. Increasing the TV contrast may help you distinguish
males (yellow legs) from females (red). The frog population always regenerates
to its maximum of 8, but the process is very slow if you caught all the frogs.
An adult male and female breeding pair will reproduce at a steady rate, and
much more quickly if a Golden frog is present with them. There's not much
point to leaving the babies if there's already a breeding pair.
Note that there are four Qu's Marshes all over the world, each with its
own frog pond (but none of with any treasure). Before proceeding, I recommend
you catch five frogs, leaving a breeding pair and the Golden frog, then kill
some time (with other side quests). Come back after at least one more is born,
and catch four more frogs to get the useful Silk Robe.

Blue Magic: Quina learns blue magic abilities by using the Eat command on
monsters that teach the ability (not by suffering the attack). Eat only works

on monsters that can teach blue magic; it has no effect on monsters that teach
nothing. Furthermore, Eat is only effective when the target is at 1/4 HP or
less. (1/2 or less if Quina is Tranced) You may Eat monsters that you've
already learned magic from, though it won't do anything for you (besides
killing the enemy). Every blue magic ability may be learned from more than one
type of monster. I will notify you at the first opportunity to learn each one.
New blue magic: Frog Drop (Gigan Toad, Qu's Marsh), Aqua Breath, (Axolotl,
Qu's Marsh or Clipper, Lachenta Wetlands), Mighty Guard (Serpion, Eunorus
Plains), Pumpkin Head (Hedgehog Pie or Lady Bug, Eunorus Plains), Limit Glove
(Axe Beak, Lindblum Plateau), LV3 Def Less (Carve Spider, Lindblum Plateau)
Ability note: Aqua Breath misses often.
The Frog Drop ability is worthless now, but if you get Quina's level high
and you've caught a lot of frogs, it will be a reliable attack because it
never misses and is not subject to defense or magic defense. The formula for
calculating the damage is:
Damage = (Quina's level) x (number of frogs caught)
The formula for calculating the damage of Pumpkin Head is:
damage = (max HP) - (current HP).

Mini game: Chocobo Hot and Cold
Reward: lots of treasure
If you head east from Dragon's Gate you'll reach Chocobo's forest. The
moogle will explain a lot of things to you. Follow his instructions and you
can play the game. Keep in mind that finding treasure is pretty hard at this
point because your chocobo's beak level starts at 1. As you earn points the
beak level will increase; the points are like exp. for Choco's beak. This
makes the peck animation faster and allows him to dig deeper with each peck.
As you accumulate points you can trade them in for items. All of the items
that Mene offers can be found elsewhere. There are two other locations in the
world where you can play Chocobo Hot and Cold. These will be mentioned when
they become accessible.
You can also pay gil for Gysahl Greens here, which you use to call Choco
from chocobo tracks on the world map. But I don't recommend buying them
because you will dig up plenty as you play the mini game.
Side quest: Chocobo treasure hunting
Reward: lots of treasure
As you play Chocobo Hot and Cold you will find Chocographs, which Mene
will explain to you. At this point it is possible to find nine of them.
Numbering them from top to bottom, you can find 1-6, 8, 10 and 11. Mene will
tell you when you can't find any more. As for the Chocograph pieces, they will
be important later. Of these nine, you can actually reach 1 and 2 on the world
map right now. When accessing the Chocograph menu, note that you can get an
extra hint from the help moogle (hit select).
On hints: Before a puzzle I will give the estimated difficulty and the number
of hints available. Hints are spaced an extra line apart to avoid spoilage.
After the last hint the solution will be given.
Chocograph 1 (Easy- 3 hints)
Hint 1: There's only one river here.
Hint 2: Note the bridge in the picture.
Hint 3: The perspective in the Chocograph picture is facing northwest.

Solution: You really are hopeless if you can't find it. This one is a piece of
cake. It's west of the river mouth.
Ability note: Alert (Cotton Robe) is very useful. I recommend you use it
anytime you expect encounters.
Chocograph 2 (Easy- 3 hints)
Hint 1: The hint says southwest. Try walking all the way west then south.
Hint 2: The picture doesn't show it, but just beyond the green in the center
is ocean.
Hint 3: The perspective in the Chocograph picture is facing south.
Solution: From the beach at the west coast, go south and follow the path to a
dead end between the mountains.
Ability note: Chemist doubles the effectiveness of Potions, Hi-Potions and
Ethers.
Note: To clear the Chocograph picture from above the world map overlay, select
Cancel in the Chocograph menu.

///South Gate (King Ed Plains)///
Note: This place is optional.
Treasure:
Bohden Arch- Moccha Coffee (key item), free healing
Tip: If you park your chocobo too close to locations on the world map, you may
have trouble getting back on; When you push X, Zidane will enter the location
instead. You can deal with this by making sure you're directly facing Choco
and standing as close to him as possible, but it's easier to just prevent this
by parking farther away.
///Pinnacle Rocks (Lindblum Plateau)///
Note: This place is optional.
Treasure:
Entry- Elixir, Phoenix Down
///Gizamaluke's Grotto///
Basic objective: Get to the other side. Once you enter here Lindblum will be
closed off. Remember you can go back to South Gate if you need healing.
Monsters: Hornet, Skeleton, Lamia, Type A (event battle)
New blue magic: LV 3 Def Less (Lamia, if you didn't get it from a Carve
Spider)
Treasures:
Bell Room- Mythril Gloves (curving stairs), Magus Hat (under bridge)
Note: After entering the Bell Room, you can go back to the first screen of
the dungeon and get another bell. This is important if you manage to lock
yourself out of the moogle room.
Cavern- moogle (Mogmi), exit to Popos Heights
Mognet: *from Moodon to Mogmi

Note: You can climb up the vines in the moogle room to fight lv 35 Garudas and
lv 60 Grand Dragons if that's your thing. If you insist on it now, the Coral
Ring from the festival will be handy.

Steal: Elixir, Magus Hat, Ice Staff
Abilities: Crash, Water, Silent Voice
Weak: Thunder, Wind
Half: Water

Guard: Earth

Tip: Your party will take less damage from Crash in the back row, and Glass
Armlets help against the water. Remember that Jump damage is independent of
row arrangement. Loudmouth (Silk Robe) prevents the effect of Silent Voice. He
casts Water on all members only when you've really pissed him off, so if you
want to steal you should do it before trying to kill him. The Ice Staff is a
good steal.
--///South Gate Grand Citadel///
Basic objective: Pass through the gate. There's no combat and you are about to
jump back to your other crew so there's no need to tweak your equipment.
Note: If you make the wrong dialogue choices Steiner gets corrected with a
kick to the back. In the alley you get a brief extra scene if you choose to go
over to the other side.

Bohden Sta. (second screen)- Potion, moogle (Grimo)

treasure first.

Chocograph 4 (Easy- 3 hints)
Hint 1: To get started, there are chocobo tracks far to the northwest, near a
beach.
Hint 2: The treasure is close to the tracks. Really close.

Hint 3: The beach in the chocograph picture is the same beach near the tracks.
Solution: The treasure is on the beach of the Eesistern Coast northwest of
Cleyra.
Once you get this treasure (and only then), you can get treasures 10 and 11 if
you go back through Gizamaluke's Grotto. The journey is a little easier since
you can ride Choco back to the grotto.
Chocograph 10 (Medium- 3 hints)
Hint 1: The perspective in the picture is facing east.
Hint 2: The treasure isn't actually on the island you see in the picture.
Notice there's no beach in the picture.
Hint 3: It's one of the islands to the west of the continent, not the south.
Solution: The treasure is in the shallows to the west of the triangular island
at the western end of the bay.
Chocograph 11 (Medium- 3 hints)
Hint 1: The perspective in the picture is facing northwest.
Hint 2: That big thing in the picture is an island. The thing in the distance
is the mainland.
Hint 3: It's one of the islands to the south of the continent, not the west.
Solution: The treasure is on the beach of the westmost island (Lanshake
Island) in the bay south of the continent.
As you're heading back to Burmecia, remember that you can get an extra bell
from the first screen of the grotto if you haven't already.

///Burmecia///
Basic objective: Get to the palace.
Monsters: Basilisk, Ironite, Magic Vice, Mimic (in residence), Type A (event

Ability note: Magic Hammer can take away all of a targets MP within a few
casts. It doesn't actually steal the MP though.
Treasures:

Mognet: from Mogki to Atla (Kupo Nut reward)
from Atla to Monev
Note: When you get a Kupo Nut, you can bring it back to Moguta in Gizamaluke's
Grotto for a reward, the first one for an Elixir, then a Tent or Ether for
each one after that. At certain times (which will be mentioned) he will give
better rewards.
Stiltzkin item set 1: Soft, Hi-Potion, Ether for 333 gil
Note: On a number of occasions Stiltzkin will show up and offer to sell you a
set of three items. The items are well worth the asking price, and if you buy
from him every time you will get a good item in disc 4. In some situations you
have only one chance to buy from him before he disappears.

Weak: none
Tip: You don't have to lift a finger in this battle. You just have to survive
for a number of rounds. This means you can focus on playing defensive if you
want. (e.g., back row, Reis' Wind, stealing) Note that the Mythril Sword is a
1/256 steal; i.e., it's really hard to steal. (base 0.39% chance of success)
Note: You will switch to the other party after this battle. And this boss
gives no AP. Therefore you should remove important equipment before the battle
(like the Silk Robe, if you got it).

Tip: If you allow Steiner to get messed up a bit, Minus Strike works well.
There's nothing you can do at this point to prevent the Freeze.
--After the battle
Main Objective: Turn right to go to Treno. But if you turn left and visit Dali
you can get the chest in the field where the old lady was.
Treasure:
Bridge (at South Gate)- 1610 gil
Field (at Dali)- Elixir (This is your only chance to reach this chest)
Bentini Heights
Monsters: Carve Spider, Ghost, Trick Sparrow, Mandragora (forest)
Friendly monster: (Bentini Heights)
Ghost- asks for 1 Ore, gives 10 AP, Hi-Potion
///Treno///
Basic objective: Round up your party and get the item.
ATE: There are two ATE paths for each of the two other characters. If you want
to see every ATE scene, you should pick one and follow it to completion
(actually follow the character through the city) before starting the other.
"Treno Tradition"- If you hit the button at the field icon you lose 500 gil
instead of 1000 gil.
Treasure:
Gate- Gemini (key item) (drop coins in the fountain 13 times)
Walkway (left from Gate)- Mythril Dagger
Bishop's House- Power Belt (only if you saw "Treno Tradition")
Knight's House- moogle (Mogrich)
Mognet: *from Stiltzkin to Mogrich
Queen's House- Ether (in the water at left)
King's House- 2225 gil (left of the door)
Slums- Yeti card, 1 gil, Taurus (key item)
Tot Residence- (key item)
Ability note: Counter (Power Belt) only works in response to physical attacks.
Its activation rate is affected by Spirit, but you'll find it doesn't activate
often. Attacks from party members will not activate it.
MP attack (Power Belt) takes 1/8 of a character's max MP to do about 50%
extra damage with regular attacks. It's usually worth the cost.
ATE: After Tot invites you to go down the ladder, instead exit the tower
(return to the Walkway). You'll then get to see "Crime and Punishment."

Gold Choker

Ability note: This is your first chance to learn Ability Up, from the
Chachusa. I don't need to tell you how useful it is.
The second level ("-ara") elemental and curative spells are far more
effective than their level one counterparts. They are also more cost effective
in terms of MP.
Physical, but not magic attacks will not cause targets affected by Sleep
(Flame Staff) to wake up.
+++
Mini game: The Auction house
Inside King's house you can buy various treasures, both key items and
equipment, at the auction. Some of these you won't be able to otherwise get
for a long time. The straightforward way to win the bidding is just to wait
until the item is about to be sold, then increment 100 gil. If you are
impatient you can bid a little under what you expect it to sell for, then wait
for the others to quiet down and increment. Note that if somebody else buys an
item at the auction it will still be available if you return later. You will
have to buy some items to get others to appear. For example the Pearl Rouge
doesn't appear till you've bought the Reflect Ring.
Some people in town offer to buy the key items. You can turn a small
profit this way, but you can only sell each item once. (Then they will
reappear at the auction.) As for the equipment, I recommend you get the
Reflect Ring (~16000 gil) and Pearl Rouge (~15000), if you can afford them.
They are both useful items. The price of the Reflect Ring here is not much
more than the total cost you'd pay to get it and its components synthesized
when it becomes available from synthesists much later. The Pearl Rouge is
expensive but you'd otherwise have to give up a rare Moonstone to synthesize
one.

Side quest: The Stellazzios
Now you can trade in those coins you've been collecting for real treasure.
So far we've run into Aries, Cancer, Gemini, and Taurus. Turn them in at
Queen's House for 1000 gil, Phoenix Pinion, 2000 gil, and a Blood Sword. The
treasures you get depend on how many coins you've given, not which coins you
give. If you've gotten the four above and also get Scorpio from the cave east
of here (see below) you can trade it in for 5000 gil.

Ability note: Darkside costs 1/8 of the character's HP and does shadow damage.
It hits harder than a regular attack, and like all sword techniques, does
equal damage in the front or back row.
+++
Side quest: Knight's house (Medium)
Reward: Tonberry card
You can ask to fight the Griffin in the weapon shop with one character. If
you use Steiner and give him the Blood Sword, Bird Killer, and MP Attack
(Power Belt), you should be able to kill it in two hits. If you use Counter
(Power Belt), possibly just one hit. There's a reasonable chance you can do
it before he slaughters you with Aero or Aera. If you lose, you can just heal
and try again. It may take a few tries. Auto-Reflect does not work on the air
spells. You get no AP or anything besides the card. The next time you come
back to Treno the monster will be different whether or not you beat the
griffin.
Lv 16

If you missed out on the Blood Sword because you missed a Stellazzio, you
can still make up for it. You can actually walk back to Dali right now and get
Aries. If you missed Cancer you can go to the cave east to Treno to get
another Stellazzio.

Steal: Bone Wrist, Mythril Fork
Weak: Ice

Abilities: Devils Kiss, Blizzara, String, Night, Escape

Tip: Devil's Kiss poisons. Antibody is useful.
Note: You switch back to your other party after this, so you might want to
leave some of your new equipment available for them. This battle doesn't give
any AP anyway.
--///Cleyra///
Basic objective: Get to the top.
Monsters: Carrion Worm (inside), Sand Golem (inside), Dragonfly, Zuu (outside)
New blue magic: Auto-Life (Carrion Worm), Matra Magic (Dragonfly), White Wind
(Zuu)
Ability note: Matra Magic is helpful for learning blue magic, if you can get
it to work.
Quina's Night spell will put to sleep all allies and monsters in the
battle who don't have sleep immunity, but at this point some or all of your
party members probably have Insomniac learned. The Night trick is very potent;
you can do horrible things to the enemy while they are sleeping, then cast
Night again when they wake up.
Treasures:
Tree Trunk (1st screen, not Tree Roots)- Phoenix Down
Tree Trunk (2nd screen)- Magician Shoes (behind root), Ice Staff (behind
leaves)
Note: After flooding this room, you'll see a couple of chests you can't reach
yet.
Tree Trunk (4th screen)- Ether
Tree Trunk (5th screen)- Needle Fork, Tent, moogle (Monev)
Mognet: from Atla to Monev
Tree Trunk (6th screen)- Flame Staff
Tree Trunk (8th screen)- Remedy, Mythril Vest (in hole), Desert Boots (behind
root)
Tree Trunk (9th screen)- Mythril Gloves (chest on right side), Potion (chest
on left side)
Tree Trunk (10th screen)- lever (on right side), Elixir (on left side)
Tree Trunk (11th screen: left path from 8th screen, then left path from 9th
screen)- Hi-Potion, 900 gil
Note: If you get sucked to the bottom you have to fight a Sand Scorpion
Tree Trunk (13th screen)- Gysahl Greens (behind ladder)
Ability note: Clear Headed (Magician Shoes) prevents Confuse but not Berserk.
There is no way to prevent Berserk; not even Trance prevents it.
Auto-Potion (Mythril Vest) uses a Potion (from your inventory) whenever
the character takes damage. It uses a Hi-Potion if there are no Potions.
You'll find that this ability makes encounters last a lot longer, so you may
want to reserve it just for boss battles. It works better with Chemist.
Tip: Before entering town, you won't regret it if you put everyone in the back
row and give them Bright Eyes if they have it. You won't have an opportunity
to prepare all your characters before the next boss battle.

Besides costing 32 MP, Sacrifice (Exploda) also kills Zidane and takes
away the rest of his MP. It restores all HP/MP of the other members, but it
won't revive them or cure status effects.

EXP: 35,208
HP/MP: 13,206/2,550
Gil/AP: 2,604/3
Steal: Tent, Ether, Rising Sun
Abilities: Poison Claw, Venom Breath, Thundaga
Weak: Ice
Half: Thunder
As you can see you will need to be properly prepared for this. Antibody
takes care of Venom Breath, and anyone with Auto-Reflect or a Coral Ring is
safe from the Thundaga. If you go ahead to the Marsh and bring Quina here, the
Night trick works, but he won't stay asleep long; you can try putting him to
sleep then making Vivi hit him with Blizzara. My preferred method is to bring
Quina to 1 HP, either by using Matra Magic on him or casting Auto-Life then
killing him. You can do this right before the fight with the dragon. Then you
can hit him with Limit Glove. Not very sporting, but funny.
You should skip this if you want the combat to be more challenging.
+++
///Qu's Marsh///
Basic objective: Go to the excavation site.
Note: If you skipped Quina earlier you will get him now. The site is pretty
easy to find. Once you're on the right track Quina will take you right to it.
///Fossil Roo///
Basic objective: Pass through to the Outer Continent.

Note: In this first part there will be something of a chase. If you're too
slow, you get back attacked (regardless of the direction you were facing).
There's no trick to dodging the blades; They don't hurt you and you can just
hold the d-pad to the right. The optional boss here is not really worth
fighting. After the chase there will be a real boss.
--Optional boss battle at Fossil Roo

HP/MP: 818/4,598
Gil: 474
Exp: 809
Steal: Ore, Hi-Potion, (none), Ether
Weak: Thunder, Holy
Half: Shadow
Abilities: Spear, Thundara, Death, LV5 Death
--Boss battle at Fossil Roo
Lv 19
Type: Human
HP/MP: 5,708/4,802
Gil/AP: 0/0
Steal: Ether, Gladius, Coral Sword
Weak: none
Abilities: attack, Scan, Blizzara, Fira, Thundara, Water, Aera
Tip: This boss targets magic only at Dagger (except for Water) so Reflect is a
good idea. Pretty good steals here.
--Ability note: Annoy (Gladius) is pretty helpful when fighting more than one
opponent.
On summons: You've probably noticed that the summons don't do much damage. The
damage is dependent on how many of the appropriate add-on gems you have in
your inventory, the caster's magic power, and whether the full or abbreviated
animation occurs. If the caster is Tranced, magic power increases and
animations are always full. Using the Boost ability (not available yet) also
ensures that the animation is always full.
Monsters: Abomination, Griffin
New blue magic: Lvl 4 Holy (Feather Circle), Night (Abomination, if you didn't
learn it from a Nymph)

This place is a mess. Once you get to the screen with Stiltzkin, it

Mini game: Mining for treasure (Lame)
Reward: Madain's Ring
On screen "f" you can give the treasure hunter a potion for a chance to
dig up treasures. Just pick a spot a tap away. It may take a while to hit
something; Usually you'll get Ores and Hi-Potions but it's possible to find a
Madain's Ring. You may find an item (including the ring) in under 10 taps. If
you don't find anything after about 20 taps (i.e., 20 button presses), you
should probably find another spot. If you're getting nothing at all, try
giving another potion. There's a moogle on this screen.

dig up another Chocograph treasure.
Monsters: Cactaur (barren land only), Goblin Mage, Griffin, Zaghnol
New blue magic: 1,000 Needles (Cactaur), Goblin Punch (Goblin Mage)
Ability note: 1,000 Needles is useful for weakening monsters to learn new blue
magic because it does consistent damage.

///Black Mage Village///
Main Objective: Gather information on Kuja.
ATE: The ATE branching here is complicated and it's possible to miss some of
them. If you want to be sure to see them all, follow this path: See
"Gourmand's Nose," move to upper right (where the save moogle is), see "Life

Cycle," enter the chocobo shack, see "Everyday Life," go back to the entrance,
move up to the center hut and take path to the right, see "Life on the Run,"
exit to the left, then see "Visitor, not Invader." You must see "Different

item by going to the Rooftop and overhearing a conversation, after spending
the night at the inn. If you do see the ATE, then spend the night, you can
hear a different conversation on the Rooftop.
After spending the night:
Ability note: Demi (Black Belt) does damage equal to 30% of the target's max
HP. Three casts of this will bring any victim below 1/8 health, making them
ready to Eat. It's a little more reliable than Matra Magic because of Vivi's
higher magic power. And during this time Quina can concentrate on keeping the
target asleep by using Night.
Mognet: *from Stiltzkin to Mogryo
///Conde Petie///
Main Objective: Pass through the exit on the far side of town.
Note: After the ceremony, if you choose the second option, you get to see an
extra scene.
Tip: After the ceremony, Quina will leave for a long time. Check equipment.
///Mountain Path///
Main Objective: Reach your new friend's house.
Ability note: Auto-Regen (Golem's Flute) heals 1/16 of the character's max HP
at fixed intervals. The frequency increases with higher Spirit. This great
ability essentially allows you to ignore any damage that doesn't come close to
killing a character.
Guardian Mog (Madain's Ring) cures any status ailments after battle.

Dock (north of Square)- Phoenix Pinion, 3927 gil
Ability note: If you use Auto-Potion, you should consider getting rid of all
your Potions since you can now buy Hi-Potions anywhere.
Healer (Healing Rod) causes the character to heal rather than hurt the
target of regular attacks. The problem is that it misses often (depending on
the target's evade).
Thievery is like Frog Drop in that it does consistent damage and never
misses. The formula is:
Damage = (Zidane's Speed) x (Number of Successful steals) / 2
Reflect Null (Pearl Rouge) allows the character's spells penetrate
Reflect. This is handy for your healers because they can use curative spells
on the whole party even if some are using Auto-Reflect.

Mini game: Racing Hippaul (Hard)
At Main Street, you can race the hippo kid. Just alternately mash the
Square and Circle buttons. When you win, his level goes up. You get a reward
every 10 levels. His level progression goes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 21, 25, then
only one level per win. It gets pretty hard around 50. A controller with turbo
buttons is helpful. To get the key item you'll need to win 66 times. That's a
lot of button abuse. You can get him to level 100 but there's no reason unless
you hate your controller buttons. This is your only chance to play this mini

///Treno///
Basic objective: Compete in the card tournament. If you never learned how to
play the card game now is a good time to learn. There are a lot of side quests
you can do first, including one at Dali.
ATE:

In the ATE "How He Ended Up Here," you get to choose whether to "Stop by
at home" or "Stay in Treno." Each option will allow you to see different
follow-up ATEs involving Vivi, but you can only choose one, and the last save
moogle was awhile back. Also, if you choose the second option, you will play
someone in the second round of the tournament who uses a rare Namingway card.
There is one other opportuniy to get a Namingway card if you miss this one.
Before the tournament, if you follow Eiko's ATEs and watch "City People,"
you get a Chimera Armlet.
After the first round, in the ATE "Good Old Days" if you choose "Of course
I'm interested," you get to see another ATE; if you pick "I won't force it out
of you," you can get Freya to join you at King's House. If you picked "Stop by
at home" earlier you will see an extra scene if you go to the cave to the east

of Treno after the first round, and Vivi will also join you. It doesn't really
matter whether they join because soon you'll all be back together.
After the second round, if you want to see the ATE "Hallucination," you
should see it before moving to the right.
Mognet: *from Kupo to Mogrich
Treasure:
Bishop's House- Chimera Armlet (in "City People" ATE)
Card Stadium- Rebirth Ring (given if you win tournament)
Note: If you lose the first or second round in the tournament you can just try
again. If you draw, you must immediately rematch. If you lose the final round
there is no rematch (but you'd have to try pretty hard to lose). After the
final round you will eventually switch to Steiner; if Freya has anything you
want him to wear into combat you should change her equipment.
Ability note: Auto-Life (Rebirth Ring) revives the character and brings him to
1 HP, but it only works once per battle.
+++
Side quest: Knight's House (Easy)
Reward: 15000 gil

expensive at ~12000 gil and teaches a cool ability. You can get it later if
you miss it now, but you can only buy one. It does 9999 damage if used in
battle. Using it in this way is not recommended since the item is rare.
Ability note: For Odin (Dark Matter), the formula to calculate the chance to
cause instant death is:

+++
Side quest: The Stellazzios
You should have Virgo, Libra and Leo now. You can turn them in for an
Elixir, 10000 gil, and a Black Belt, assuming you already got and turned in

If you initiated the Morrid side quest in disk 1 (see above) you can

you won't be able to in disc 4. You should have already come across the other
two. If you go to Dali now you can search the mayor's house, but the boy is
still sleeping here. If you wake him up you have to start over.
Hint 1: It doesn't really matter which door you come through.
Hint 2: You'll find that you can only search one place without waking him up.
Hint 3: It's not your location but your moving around that wakes him up.
Hint 4: Moving short distances makes less noise than moving across the room.
Hint 5: Watch what happens when you search the same place twice.
Solution: Starting from one place, keep searching till he falls back asleep.
Then move across the room to the next nearest place and stay there till he

Abilities: Edge, Doom, Poison, Paper Storm
Note: This boss gives exp. The Demon's Mail is another impossible 1/256 item.
Tip: He starts out closed, at page 0, with very high defense and magic
defense. When closed, he will cast Paper Storm and Doom. Paper Storm damage is
reduced in the back row. His page number will increase by the amount of damage
you do to him. If you get him between page 150 and 200, he opens up (with much
lower defense and magic defense), casts Poison five times (Antibody here),
then closes, resetting page number to 0. It's better to damage and steal from
him during this time since he is much less dangerous. He closes prematurely if
hit with a physical attack. (Note that some abilities like Mug and Throw count
as physical.) Find a routine that will open him in as few moves as possible;
Thievery (Angel Bless) may do the trick in just one move depending on the
number of times you've stolen.
+++
Ability note: Not only does Auto-Haste (Running Shoes) make the character
Hasted, but it also prevents Slow. The extra speed is actually not as useful
as it seems; you are still unlikely to get a character to act twice between
the enemy's moves. It's sometimes helpful for stealing from bosses.

Cypress Pile
3200
Mantra Band
1500
Dark Hat
1800
Ability note: Comet (Cypress Pile) misses often.
Note: The Thunder Gloves complement the thunder property of the Coral Sword
very nicely.
Basic objective after turning in the potions: Go to the harbor.
Note: If you see the "No Free Lunch" ATE and go to the Shopping Area, you can
get Quina back for a small sum of gil. If you just go to the harbor you'll get
him back anyway, with different reunion dialogue.
///World Map///
Basic objective: Go to the Black Mage Village. There are a lot of side quests
you can do now, including getting a ton of Chocographs. Note that Dagger
randomly fails to execute her commands in battle now, and she is unable to
Trance.
///Alexandria///
Note: This place is optional.
Treasure:
Courtyard (castle)- Sapphire (rubble), Peridot (rubble), Opal (lower left)
Dock- Topaz, 4832 gil (behind staircases)
Square- 365 gil (ruins of weapon shop), Remedy (lower right), Amethyst (lower
left), Alexandria card (given by girl)
Steeple (outside)- Tent
Main Street (north screen)- Ether

+++
Mini game: Jump rope
You can play this game again, until the end of the game. The girls will be
at the Alexandria steeple if you bring either Vivi or Eiko. If you bring both,
only Vivi plays. If you bring neither, the girls won't be here.
+++
Side quest: Catching frogs
Now is a good time to catch frogs at both the Mist and Outer continents
since the populations have probably maxed out by this time. There's also a
third marsh you can reach now in the Salvage Archipelago (southwest of world
map), on Lanar Island. There are Grand Dragons on this island. While we're
dealing with Quina, you can get some new blue magics, including one from a
monster in the marsh.
New blue magic: Bad Breath (Anemone, Qu's Marsh at Lanar Island), Limit Glove
(Axebeak, Lindblum Plateau, if you missed it), LV5 Death (Stroper or
Dracozombie, Iifa Tree), Roulette (Zombie, Iifa Tree, several screens in),
Vanish (Gnoll, Conde Petie Mountain Path)
Ability note: Bad Breath causes Poison, Confusion, Darkness, Mini, and Slow.
It either hits or misses for all of them; It usually misses.
LV5 Death is highly effective, but it won't work on most monsters. From
now on I will tell you when a monster's level is a multiple of 5. Keep in mind
that the Grand Dragon is level 60.
+++
Mini game: Chocobo Hot and Cold
If you go to Chocobo's Forest now Mene will mark a new location on your
map. You can reach it by calling Choco from a small unnamed island west of the
location. You will need to do some reef-hopping. Remember that you can hide
the symbols on the full-screen world map by holding Circle. When you get to
the location, Mene will explain some new rules. Here you can find Chocographs
7, 9, 12, 15 and another one of the pieces. From now on, Mene will remind you
every time before playing Hot and Cold if you can't find anymore at a
location.
+++
Chocograph 6 (Easy- 6 hints)
Hint 1: The moogle's clue refers to the fact that you'll have to sail your
ship to get to this one.
Hint 2: There's only one continent with snowfields.
Hint 3: The Lost Continent is in the northwest part of the world map.
Hint 4: The tracks are right by one of the two beaches on this continent.
Hint 5: The treasure is near the tracks.
Hint 6: The perspective is facing east.
Solution: The treasure is east of the tracks and just south of the end of the
mountain ridge.

On card recovery: If you are carrying the full contingent of 100 cards, you
will be forced to discard any you find in Chocograph treasures. You can
recover these, however, in disc 4 if you complete all of the chocobo side
quests.
+++
///Esto Gaza///
Note: This place is optional. If you came out to get chocograph 6, now is a
good time to visit.
Treasure:
Shop- Wing Edge (upper right)
New equipment: (weapon shop)
Mythril Claws
6500 gil
Mythril Racket
2250
+++
Chocograph 8 (Hard- 6 hints)
Hint 1: Note the barren land. That narrows it down to two continents.
Hint 2: It's not the Outer continent.
Hint 3: The treasure is somewhere off the coast of the Forgotten Continent
(west of world map).
Hint 4: The tracks you're looking for are on a green island.
Hint 5: Look around in the Savage Archipelago (southwest of world map).
Hint 6: The perspective is facing north by northwest.
Solution: Get on Choco at Everlang Island, then follow the reefs north along
the peninsula, then southeast all the way to the lagoon.
Chocograph 7 (Hard- 4 hints)
Hint 1: The clue for this one is very misleading; the treasure is actually not
far north of the 'equator' of the world map.
Hint 2: The barren land in the picture is part of the Forgotten Continent, but
not the mainland of it.
Hint 3: The tracks that will let Choco get here are on the Lost Continent.
Hint 4: The perspective is facing northeast.
Solution: From the tracks on the Lost Continent, follow the lagoons south to
the bent peninsula on the island northeast of the Forgotten Continent. The
treasure is in the bay formed by the peninsula.
Chocograph 9 (Easy- 3 hints)
Hint 1: The clue tells you to look in the water south of the Outer Continent.

Hint 2: The tracks are at Kognish shores at the south central part of the
continent.
Hint 3: The perspective is facing west.
Solution: From the beach, follow the lagoon west to the bent peninsula. The
treasure is in the little bay.
Chocograph 12 (Easy- 4 hints)
Hint 1: In case the clue didn't make it obvious enough, the moogle's clue will
make it clear.
Hint 2: The nearest tracks are the ones at Chocobo Forest.
Hint 3: It's in the water.
Hint 4: The perspective is facing west by northwest.
Solution: The treasure is south of the small island at the southern end of the
bay southeast of Treno.
+++
///South Gate (Zamo Basin)///
Note: This place is optional. You need to have found chocograph treasure 12 to
come here.
If you turn in your Kupo Nut to Moguta at this point you get an Extension.
Now the easiest way to get to him is by entering from the woods above
Gizamaluke's Grotto. I will no longer remind you to turn in Kupo Nuts.
Treasure:
Treno Arch- Elixir (2), 3206 gil, moogle (Mosco)
///South Gate (Bohden Heights)///
Note: This place is optional. You need to have found chocograph treasure 12 to
come here.
Treasure:
Bohden Gate (inside gate)- Elixir card (the chest you couldn't reach before)
+++
Chocograph 3 (Medium- 4 hints)
Hint 1: You need to have found chocograph treasure 12 to get this one. The
same goes for all of the following chocographs.
Hint 2: It's on the Mist Continent.
Hint 3: The treasure is on the east side of the river in question.
Hint 4: Perspective is facing south.
Solution: South of the Evil Forest, in the marshland.
Once you've found chocograph 12, there will be more chocographs available
to dig up at Chocobo's Forest and Lagoon. You should now be able to find 13,
14, 16, and 19 at the forest and 2 more of the pieces at either location.

You'll now start finding dead peppers. These are used to reach special
treasures and locations. This will be explained more fully later on. You can
also use them in combat for about 500 damage.
Chocograph 14 (Easy- 3 hints)
Hint 1: Note the mountains all over the picture.
Hint 2: Mist Continent of course.
Hint 3: Perspective is facing west but it doesn't really matter for this one.
Solution: It's in the forest at the meeting place of the three mountain
ranges, south of North Gate.
Ability note: Meteor (High Mage Staff), like Comet, misses often.
Osmose (High Mage Staff) is pretty cool, but it's usually more effective
to just use an Ether.
Chocograph 15 (Medium- 3 hints)
Hint 1: Mist Continent.
Hint 2: Northern part of the continent.
Hint 3: Perspective facing north by northwest and looking down.
Solution: It's on the higher plateau west of Alexandria, called Alexandria
Plateau, not Togull Beach, next to the mountain wall.
Chocograph 19 (Medium- 5 hints)
Hint 1: After finding 15, you actually don't have to use your ship anymore.
Hint 2: The snow should make it clear what continent we're dealing with.
Hint 3: This one's in the water.
Hint 4: Check the north side of the continent.
Hint 5: Perspective is facing northeast.
Solution: Of the two small bays on the north central side of the Lost
Continent, it's at the end of the one to the east.
Once you've found chocograph 15, you unlock 17, 18 and 22 at the forest
and lagoon.
Chocograph 17 (Medium- 5 hints)
Hint 1: In the picture you can see barren land, deep water and most
importantly the sunset.
Hint 2: Look for that distinctive crook-shaped cape.
Hint 3: It's not by the Outer Continent.

Hint 4: Try the east coast of the Forgotten Continent.

Hint 5: Perspective is facing northwest.
Solution: Directly southeast of the curved cape on the east-central side of
the Forgotten Continent.
Chcograph 18 (Hard- 7 hints)
Hint 1: This one's really unfair. Note the green land in the upper right
corner of the picture.
Hint 2: There's a lot more land visible from where the treasure is buried than
you can see in the picture.
Hint 3: The moogle's hint is crucial.
Hint 4: There are tracks within sight of the treasure.
Hint 5: It's not by the Mist Continent.
Hint 6: The perspective is north by northwest.
Hint 7: If you turn east from the treasure you'll see a big island.
Solution: A little northwest from the forest on Everlang Island, in the
Salvage Archipelago.
+++
Side quest: The ragtime mouse
If you didn't have the patience to complete this side quest before, now is
a good time to finish it up and get your reward.
+++
Side quest: Catching frogs
If you did all these side quests, chances are that there are a couple baby
frogs to catch in the marshes, more if one had a golden frog. I will no longer
remind you to visit the swamps.
///Black Mage Village///
Basic objective: Gather information on Kuja.
///Kiera Desert///
Note: Very soon you will divide up into two parties of four. The first party,
which must include Zidane, will eventually be going to a place where White
Magic, Black Magic, Blue Magic, Summons, and even Sword Magic are unusable.
It's like everyone's Silenced. You can't even cast Cure spells outside of
battle. However, rather than dividing between the mages and the fighters, I
recommend that you put at least one power character in the second party, and
one healer in each party.
Furthermore, you will be unable to freely switch between parties. The
first party does its scenario first, then the second. Therefore I recommend
you decide now who will go into what party, and remove important equipment
from the members of the second party.

Puzzle: Find the secret palace (Easy- 3 hints)

There are four sand pits. One of them leads to the palace. Each of the
others leads to an unescapable battle with an Antlion (the boss that uses
Sandstorm).
Hint 1: You could just find it by trial and error. But that's a lot of
Sandstorm to deal with. Note: If you do get sandstormed, Steiner's Charge!
ability gives a well deserved punishment.
Hint 2: One of the sand pits is not like the other.
Hint 3: Have you tried just watching them?
Solution: The three false pits will kick up little clouds of dust
periodically. The real one doesn't.

///Desert Palace///
Basic objective: After the scenes, move to the left side of the docks.
Monsters: Ogre
///Blairsurpass Plains///
Basic objective: Get to Oielvert far to the south.
Note: There is another Qu's Marsh to the northeast (where you can catch frogs
if you brought Quina), and near the marsh are some chocobo tracks. With Choco,
you can avoid a lot of encounters and find two more Chocographs.
Monsters: Armstrong, Catoblepas, Jabberwock (lv 30), Adamantoise (wetlands)
New Blue Magic (if you brought Quina): Earth Shake (Adamantoise)
Friendly monster: (Blairsurpass Plains)
Jabberwock- asks for Emerald, gives 40 AP, Moonstone
+++
Chocograph 13 (Medium- 4 hints)
Hint 1: The moogle says "a certain location" but it's more like half the
continent that's dusk.
Hint 2: That round thing in the upper right of the picture is a small forest.
Hint 3: The rest of the lumpy things are plateaus.
Hint 4: The perspective is facing southwest.
Solution: It's on a promontory in the southwest part of the continent, on the
first level of three tiers of plateaus.
Chocograph 16 (Medium- hints)
Hint 1: Notice no dusk in the picture.
Hint 2: Like the hint says, there's a long peninsula, but it's not really
pointing at anything.
Hint 3: The moogle is misleading; the plateau looks like all the others on
this continent.

Hint 4: The perspective is facing southwest.

Solution: It's on Yuanshao Peninsula, on the first tier of the plateau, near
the wall of the second tier.

Note: The Epitaph is Stone type.
Treasures:
Note: If you view the events at the Narration room before going to the Star
Display, Stiltzkin will not be present and you won't have a chance to buy from

Planetarium (upper left from Hall)- Elixir
Planetarium (lower left from Hall)- Diamond Sword, Shield Armor
Ship Display- Power Vest, Feather Boots
Event sequence:
In this dungeon you must visit sites in the correct order to proceed. To
minimize pointless wandering and encounters, and since the game doesn't give
you any clue as to what to do, I will lay out the basic sequence.
1. switch at upper level of Planetarium
2. scene at lower level of Planetarium
3. scenes at Ship Display
4. scene at Display (Grand Hall)
5. scene at Narration room
6. scene at Star Display

remove equipment before picking up the stone.
--///Desert Palace///
Mini game- Reach the hourglass (Easy)
This game actually has two parts, and 6:00 is plenty enough time if you're
not careless. (But don't be careless because the last save moogle was awhile
back.)
Part 1: Follow the directions given, but don't be seen or you'll have to start
over.
Part 2: The objective is to climb to the top. You'll need to use the weights
to help you do this. There are four weights; three can fit on the scale. You
can start putting them on without examining them but it won't make any sense.
If you take the time to examine them it should be clear what to do.
Basic objective: Light the three stained-glass windows and go to the top of
the palace. The more bloodstone treasures you get, the weaker the boss will
be.
Monsters: Drakan (lv 30), Grimlock (lv 30), Torama (lv 30)
Useful abilities: Bird/Beast/Devil Killer, Body Temp, Insomniac
Treasure:
Rack (right from Dungeon)- moogle (Mojito)
Mognet: Mojito to Mogsam
Lobby- Promist Ring (bloodstone 1, after lighting the lamp at the left)
Light Chamber- Fairy Earrings (on right side, after solving puzzle)
Ability note: Restore HP (Promist Ring) restores 1/2 max HP if the character
takes damage from an enemy (and survives) when HP is already in the yellow
range (16% or less). The green numbers do not pop up to indicate healing. It
cannot be activated by attacks from party members.
***
Puzzle: Light Chamber (Easy)
The objective is to get the stairs that lead up to appear. The clues given
by the statues are not at all helpful. I'll just give the solution because
this puzzle is lame: Read the center statue, then move to the left and right
sides of the screen (in either order). The lamp at the top of the stairs
causes the chest to appear downstairs.
***
Fire Chamber- Anklet (bloodstone 2, after solving the fire puzzle)
***
Puzzle: Fire Chamber (Easy)
The objective is to light the lamp in the center in order to open up the
path to the right, but you'll have to light all the other lamps first. There
are no encounters while you're working on the puzzle. You can figure this one
out.
***

Hallway- Shield Armor (bloodstone 3, after lighting lamp)

Stairwell (after Hallway)- window 1
Stairwell (top door from Library)- N-Kai Armlet (bloodstone 4)
Stairwell (middle door from Library)- windows 2 and 3
Library- moogle (Mogsam)
Mognet: from Mojito to Mogsam (after lighting the lamp outside the bottom
door in the library)
Shadow Cham.- Black Hood (bloodstone 5, after lighting both lamps on the
right), Venetia Shield (bloodstone 6, after lighting both lamps on the left)
***
Puzzle: Shadow Chamber (Medium- hints)
The objective is to get the stairs that lead up to appear. Light the lamp
on the far left to receive the clue. There are no encounters while you're
working on the puzzle.
Hint 1: The key is figuring out what follows what.
Hint 2: The statues are labeled.
Hint 3: Look what happens to the shadows of the statues when you light or put
out the lamps.
Hint 4: When one side of a staue is lit and the other isn't, the shadow faces
in the unlit direction.
Solution: Light the right side of both statues, and keep the left side unlit.

Side quest: Renaming
If you show a Namingway card to the man on the left balcony at the
Entrance you can rename your characters.
+++
Side quest: Treasure hunter
The four armed man at the synthesist (Right Hall) will tell you your
treasure hunter rank. If you are the highest rank, he will tell you his name
and give you a (key item). Your rank is determined by your score, which you

can't actually see, and which increases with every treasure (chest or
otherwise) you are given, have found on the field map or world map, and for
every key item you possess. It is not affected by treasures that you buy or by
Chocobo Hot and Cold treasures.
Once you attain the highest rank and talk to him, you will be unable to
play cards with him again; Keep this in mind because he plays with otherwise
rare airship cards. You can win the Viltgance card from him. (He doesn't use
it very often though.) The only other way is to pay 1800 Hot and Cold points
for one. You can still play cards (square) without talking to him (X). It is
possible that you are already the top rank at this point in disc 3. If not,
there are still a lot of treasures to be found.

the bar, then move the right platform all the way down.

Mini Game: Chocobo Hot and Cold

You should be able to find the last two of the six pieces now at either
the forest or lagoon. Once you have them, chocograph 20 will appear in your
menu.
Chocograph 20 (Easy- 4 hints)
Hint 1: Well, the clue basically tells you where it is.
Hint 2: The two green land masses in the picture are islands.
Hint 3: The gray stuff in the background of the picture is mountains.
Hint 4: The perspective is facing southwest.
Soultion: Search near the two islands at the northeast part of Mist Continent,
north of Alexandria Harbor.
Chocograph 22 (Easy- 4 hints)
Hint 1: You need to have found chocograph 20 to get this.
Hint 2: The perspective is facing northwest, but the treasure is on the island
in the distance.
Hint 3: The desert that the moogle is referring to is right in the picture.
Hint 4: It's not the desert that Cleyra was in.
Solution: It's on the Likanmack island northeast of the Kelmiera Desert, east
from Madain Sari.
Chocobo Hot and Cold
If you return to the forest or lagoon after finding chocograph 20, Mene
will tell you about using the Dead Peppers. To find the third place you can
play this mini game, look at the clues on the chocograph pieces. The first
piece is sort of an introduction, then there are five pieces with five clues
corresponding to five possible locations. When you find a shadow on the sea or
ground in the location described on the piece, fly over it with Choco and use
a Dead Pepper. (In this new location, there is an optional boss that will be
mentioned later.) Once you've visited this place, it will be marked on your
map so you can find it easily even if it moves. Here you can find the last
three chocographs: 21, 23, and 24. After you've found them, Mene will suggest
you look for the unmapped Chocobo's paradise.
Chocograph 21 (Medium- 3 hints)
Hint 1: It's not by the Forgotten Continent.
Hint 2: You may have mistakenly searched here when looking for chocograph 22,
because it's very close.
Hint 3: The perspective is south by southeast.
Solution: It's on Korua Island, northeast of the Desert Palace.
Chocograph 23 (Medium- 3 hints)

Hint 1: As you can see, it's a medium sized island with no grass, a forest and
a mountain.
Hint 2: It's near both continents that have no grass.
Hint 3: The perspective is facing north.
Solution: It's on the east side of the mountain on Vile Island, between the
Outer and Forgotten Continents.
Chocograph 24 (Medium- 3 hints)
Hint 1: Note the brown ground and plateaus in the distance.
Hint 2: This one's not far from where chocograph 23 was.
Hint 3: The perspective is south by southwest.
Solution: It's on Pilkiras Island, northeast of the Qu's Marsh on the
Forgotten Continent.
Chocobo's Paradise (Medium- 4 hints)
Hint 1: It's on a medium island. You'll have to use a Dead Pepper to enter.
Hint 2: You may have already come across the island while cruising the sea on
Choco.
Hint 3: When Mene told you it was unmapped he really did mean off the map.
Hint 4: Even if it was mapped it'd be hard to see on the map.
Solution: It's at the corner (any corner) of the world. There's a crack in the
mountain.
+++
Side quest: Dead Pepper treasures
You can learn more about Dead Peppers here and find out about even more
treasures to discover with them. There are four chocobos who tell you where to
find treasure. Each of them will tell you about a mountain crack (speak to
them with X) and a foamy spot on the sea (speak with square). One of the
attendant gold chocobos offers unlimited Dead Peppers for free.
Reef chocobo- upper level (must be splashed out of the water)
Mountain chocobo- upper level
Ocean chocobo- upper level (must come to him on the pillars)
Sky chocobo- lower level
The chocobos clearly explain the location of the treasures. If you are
unable to find them there are more detailed descriptions below.
Reef chocobo's treasures
Crack: It's on the east end of the long mountain on the big island north of
the Outer Continent, in Cadezil Plains. There's actually nothing you can do
here until disc 4.
Foam: It's in the ocean between the Mist and Outer Continents, north of
Alexandria.
Mountain chocobo's treasures

Crack: It's on the east side of the mountain on Seatence Ice Field north/south
of Chocobo's Lagoon.
Foam: It's in the sea north of the Mountain Path. The long peninsula on the
Lost Continent points right at it.
Ability note: Mag Elem Null (Protect Ring) makes all of the character's magic
do non-elemental damage.
Ocean chocobo's treasures
Crack: It's in the east central part of the continent, facing east on the
lower tier of the plateau. Look for a valley by the sea with a small kidney
shaped forest.
Foam: It's in a tiny lagoon east of Qu's Marsh on Lanar Island. Choco will
have to squeeze through a small channel to walk here.
Ability note: Fenrir has a different animation and does Wind instead of Earth
damage if Eiko is equipped with the Maiden Prayer. Used with Boost, it is an
effective way to deal with flying enemies.
Dragon Breath (Dragon's Hair) does the same damage as the last attack
against the enemy; i.e., it mimics the last attack. Although it's targeted at
one enemy it hits all of them.
Flare (Black Robe) is non-elemental, not fire. Flare has always been nonelemental.
Reflect X2 (Black Robe) causes the character's spells to double in power
when they bounce off a Reflected target. Very handy if someone in the party
has Auto-Reflect.
Sky chocobo's treasures
Crack: It's in the west central part of the continent, farther south than the
last one, facing west on the upper tier of the plateau. Look for a valley by
the sea with a larger forest. Unlike the last one the crack is unbranched and
harder to see.
Foam: It's outside Quan's dwelling east of Treno but you can't reach it from
the sea. To reach it go through the dwelling and to the end of the dock.
+++
Side quest: Quan's dwelling
While you're here to get the treasure, you can see an extra scene if you
bring Vivi and Quina (both must be in the party). Afterward, you can get
Running Shoes from the clock.
+++
///Ipsen's Castle///
Basic objective: Get to the top of the castle. Amarant will leave for awhile.
Monsters: Agares & Gargoyle, Cerberus, Tonberry, Veteran
New blue magic: Doom (Veteran)
Useful abilities: Body Temp, Jelly, Locomotion, Beast/Bird/Devil Killer
Note: In this dungeon, weaker weapons do more damage and stronger weapons do
less. Magic and other non-attack abilities are unaffected. The Gargoyle is
Stone type.
Treasures:
Hall- Dagger, Aquarius (key item)
Small Room- Cat's Claws, moogle (Kumool)
Mognet: from Mogki to Kumool (Kupo Nut reward)
Note: If you turn in this Kupo Nut you get a Phoenix Pinion.

Inverted Room (down the pole)- chest you can't reach yet
Stairwell- Broadsword (jump to right from left ladder), Javelin (jump to left
from left ladder), Rod (opposite Javelin)
Lift- puzzle leading to Barrette

Puzzle: The wall (Very easy)
Reward: Barrette; unlocks lower door in
Hall
This one's simple. Keep trying and you'll get it.

Inverted Room- Maiden Prayer (fall from upper left trapdoor in Small Room; the
two other trapdoors are duds)
Lift (follow path from lower door in Hall)- Air Racket
Sword Room- Golem's Flute
***
Puzzle: The sword (Easy- 3 hints)

Reward: Ancient Aroma

Hint 1: The trick to this puzzle is just figuring out what the objective is.
Give it a try, and if you keep moving the bottles incorrectly, you'll be told
the clue. From that point it's simple.
Hint 2: "Against the flow of time..." Think clocks.
Hint 3: Consider the way the hands on a clock move.
Solution: Move the bottles counterclockwise.
Ability note: If Odin fails to kill a target (he usually does), then Odin's
Sword (Ancient Aroma) causes him to do Wind damage instead.
***
Small Room- Fork, Mage Staff (on top of chandelier; cannot reach them until
you've passed through the lower door in the Hall)
Basic objective after exiting: Go back to the inverted room.
Basic objective: Go to each of the Shrines in the instructed order. They
aren't marked on your map, but if you need a clue you can ask at the Bridge.

Note: You actually only explore one shrine, and there are no treasures or
monsters. Just one boss battle, and you will have only Quina and Zidane in the
party.
///Earth Shrine///
Basic objective: Go to the inner room and place the mirror.
***
Puzzle: The moving walls (Very Easy)
The objective is to get to the other side of the room. All you have to do
is hit the button when the Field Icon shows up.
***
--Boss battle at the Earth Shrine
Lv 54
Type: Demon
HP/MP: 20,756/2,234
Gil/AP: 4,512/
Steal : Avenger, Rubber Suit
Weak: Wind, Holy
Half: Shadow
Absorb: Earth
Abilities: Double Slash, Earthquake, Blizzaga, Thundaga, Firaga
Tip: Auto-Float, the Feather Boots, or even better, Gaia Gear, will deal with
Earthquake. Auto Reflect for the rest.
Note: This boss is not undead. You can Eat this punk! (for Earth Shake)
--Basic objective after the battle: Go to the new location marked on your map.
Note: The next time you'll be able to explore the world map, many locations
will be closed off (for no good reason): North Gate, Ice Cavern, Observatory
Mountain, Pinnacle Rocks, South Gate, Fossil Roo, Conde Petie, Mountain Path,
Esto Gaza and Oeilvert. The weapon shops at Conde Petie, Esto Gaza, and
Oeilvert will therefore be inaccessible, and the stock at the Black Mage
Village and Daguerreo shops will change, so now is the time if you want to buy
any of that equipment.
Tip: I suggest you prepare all of your characters for battle, even those you
don't intend to use in the next part. There are some event battles coming up.
+++
Side quest: Catching frogs
If you've been diligent about catching frogs, it's possible that you're
near 99 by now. When you reach it you receive the Gastro Fork, but only after
winning a boss battle. It's possible to do this later but I mention it now
because there are some great items you can steal from the boss.
--Boss at Qu's Marsh
Lv 76
Type: Human
HP/MP: 65,535/3,680
Gil/AP: 10,800/10
Exp: 65,535
Steal: Elixir, Ninja Gear, Glutton's Robe, Robe of Lords
Weak: Thunder
Absorb: Water
Abilities: Rolling Attack, Water, Aqua Breath, Mini, Poison, Confuse, Blind,
Silence

Tip: Status protection abilities are highly recommended (at least Clear
Headed), and Angel's Snack will cure everything he manages to afflict you
with. Also useful is water protection equipment (Glass Armlet, Diamond Gloves,
Ribbon).
Note: This boss gives exp. The Night trick won't work. In fact this boss is
immune to all status ailments (except Slow).
--Note: It's possible to catch more than 99 frogs.
///Shimmering Island///
Basic objective after the scenes: Follow the girl.
Monsters: Hecteyes, Mover, Ring Leader, Worm Hydra
Useful abilities: Antibody, Insomniac, Loudmouth, Bird/Demon/Undead Killer
Note: Hecteyes is undead.
Tip: Monsters here and in the upcoming dungeon use Virus attacks. If you want
your other characters to catch up with Zidane's level, consider allowing him
to get infected. The exp that he would have gotten goes to the other members
of the party. There is no way to prevent Virus, and Vaccine is the only cure.
Treasure:
Stepping Stones (down stairs from Downhill Path)- Coronet
Path by the Pond- Dragon Wrist (from Stepping Stones), Elixir (on ledge)
Treetop- Remedy (lower right), Mythril Racket (hidden to left)
Tree Base- Demon's Vest
???- Minerva's Plate (lower left of screen, down from hidden path)
///Bran Bal///
Basic objective: Go to the room on the left, then to the laboratory.
Storage (left of Pond)- Elixir
Storage (right of Pond)- Wing Edge, moogle (Moorock), Stiltzkin
Mognet: from Moorock to Mozme
Stiltzkin item set 7: Diamond, Ether and Elixir for 2222 gil
Gate (under bridge)- Flash Hat
New equipment: (mogshop)
Defender
9340
Holy Lance
11000 (if you didn't steal it at Oeilvert)
Avenger
16000 (if you didn't steal it at the Earth Shrine)
Flash Hat
5200 (can find one soon)
Adaman Hat
6100
Platinum Helm
4600
Platina Armor
10500
Ability note: Thunder Slash (Defender) misses often.
Dragon's Crest (Holy Lance) is like Frog Drop and Thievery in that it does
consistent damage and never misses. The formula is:
Damage = (number of dragons killed)^2
Freya need not be in the party for a killed dragon to count towards to total.
In order for it to reach 9999 damage you will have to slay 100 dragons.
Demi Shock (Avenger) is similar to Demi, but only takes off 20% of the
target's max HP.
ATE: After the control switches to Eiko, you can be sure to see all the ATE's
by following Zidane's path. You can talk to the other characters to get extra
dialogue but it actually won't matter whether they join you.

///Pandemonium///
Basic objective: Follow the trail. There will be a number of event battles.
Monsters: Amudusias, Abadon, Malboro, Mover, Shell Dragon
Useful abilities: Bird/Bug/Demon Killer/Dragon Slayer, wind and earth
protection
New blue magic: Twister (Abadon; if you missed it at Mount Gulug)
Note: You can Eat Abadons, but not the one in the event battle.
Treasures:
Hall (start)- moogle (Moorock)
Mind Control (up from Hall)- Holy Miter (under chair)
***
Puzzle: The monster generator (Medium)
When you get to the Generator room, there will be a switch that
simultaneously turns on the bridge outside and starts the light sequence on
the floor, for 30 seconds. If you touch one of the lights you'll have an
encounter and when it's resolved you won't be able to get across the bridge in
time. When the time runs out, the bridge will disappear, even if you're
standing on it. Suggestion: Watch the lighting pattern and plan your path
through the room. Then you can push the button to reset the time when you're
ready to go for it.
***
Puzzle: The rotating elevator (Medium- 2 hints)
The objective is to get to the top. The elevator connects several pairs of
boarding points in this vertical room. You can control the initial direction
that the platform faces with the switch in the previous room, but it rotates
counterclockwise as it moves up. You can't board the platform if it's not
facing the boarding point. Note that there's a treasure you can reach in this
room with the elevator.
Hint 1: Trial and error can get you to the top.
Hint 2: If you can't board from one point at a certain rotation setting, you
may still be able to board at a different point.
Solution: Setting 3 can get you the treasure (top of the room), and setting 4
will bring you all the way up.
***
Elevator- 20007 gil
Maze- Elixir, Carabini Mail (follow the less obvious path to the upper right
or left from the top of the Elevator); Battle Boots, moogle (Mozme) (obvious
path down from Elevator)
Ability note: Initiative (Battle Boots) is very useful (but not as essential
as Alert).

Type: Human
HP/MP: 42,382/9999
Gil/AP: 0/0

Tip: If all of your characters have Reflect status, he will cast nothing but
Flare Star (which hurts). However, if gave Auto-Reflect to three characters,
he will cast only the other two spells, and only on the unreflected member.
You can exploit this behavior by giving that character the Coral Ring.

///Invincible///
Basic objective: Fly to the Iifa Tree. There are more sidequests available
now.
Note: Unlike the other one, this airship can land on brown or green ground
(but still not forest or beach).
Treasure:
Core- Pisces (key item)
+++
Side quest: Dead Pepper treasures
If you found all the other Dead Papper treasures and return to Chocobo's
Paradise and talk to Fatty with the square button, he will tell you about the
final Dead Pepper treasure. It's in the ocean exactly where he says it is, but
you can't see anything on the surface. Use the marker that's still on your map
to position yourself and then dive for it. Afterwards, if you return he'll
give you a rare Fat Chocobo card. At this point he will also give you back any
cards you found with Choco that you had to leave behind.
+++
Side quest: Chocobo beaches
After finding the final Dead Pepper treasure and seeing the scene at
Chocobo's Paradise, you can return to Fatty again and he will tell you to
bring Choco to all the beaches of the world. The objective is to press circle
standing at every beach of the world. You should hear a tone at each one. You

actually don't need to have Choco around; it's probably quicker to use the
airship. If you do this quest I recommend you find them all at once so you
don't lose track. Not all beaches count toward the total because only one
beach counts per place name; e.g., the Falstead Coast only counts once. You'll
get a message when you find all of them, and from now on if Zidane is standing
on a beach with Choco you get HP/MP restored by pressing circle.

Side quest: Madain Sari
In the kitchen in Madain Sari, you'll find a certain someone. If you bring
a party that includes both Dagger and Eiko, she will run away. Then if you
bring a party that includes neither Dagger, Eiko nor Amarant, she will tell
you about something in the secret room. (She only says this if you previously
brought the Dagger-Eiko party.) You can now read a clue in the secret room.
Now you have to figure out the meaning of this clue.
***
Puzzle: Madain Sari (Hard)
Reward: extra insight into the story
Clue: Time moves forward once; Time moves backward once; Nine is the first
number; It is also the last.
Hint 1: Try the Eidolon wall. Notice the new camera angle here. You can read
some of the sites on the wall.
Hint 2: "Forward once... backward once..."
Hint 3: Zidane already figured out what is meant by forward and backward.
Hint 4: Try walking to the right at the wall. Listen carefully.
Hint 5: Nine is the important number. "First" and "last" don't really mean
anything though.
Hint 6: If you thought of walking around the wall nine times, you're on the
right track.
Solution: Walk around the wall, alternating right then left a total of nine
times. You should hear an odd tone for each correct circling. You'll know it
when you're done because you will get free healing.
***
Now you can read all of the sites on the wall. There is one important site
that you can read only when you've read all the others.
+++
Side quest: The Final Stellazzio (Hard- 6 hints)
Reward: Hammer
Now you should have Aquarius and Pisces, to turn in for 30000 gil and a
Robe of Lords. That should be twelve. If you missed any of them you can get
them at your liesure now. After you turn in the 12th one, you will become
aware of another. The writings on the coins (which you are allowed to see
again) are the hints to the location of number 13.

Hint 1: "...headed east..." "...in the opposite direction of the sun." We're
talking the east part of the world map.
Hint 2: "Through the forest and over the mountain..." Okay, not very helpful
but there are forests and mountains nearby.
Hint 3: "...by the river." "...chilly northern wind..." These are duds. No
river, no snow close by.
Hint 4: "...to the cape where Virgo waited. The sun was setting into the
ocean." "Waiting for the sun to set into the ocean." "Watching the sunset from
the cape..." "...up a hill toward the sun..." Up a hill. Sunset. Cape. Ocean.
Get it?
Hint 5: It's not far from Treno.
Hint 6: It's located where you found one of the twelve.
Solution: It's in the same place where you found Scorpio, Quan's Dwelling.
Note: The hammer cannot be equipped. It is a one of a kind rare item that is a
component in some synthesis formulas. If you have it in your inventory at the
end of the game there is a miniscule change in the ending sequence.
+++
Side quest: Knight's House (Medium)
Reward: Circlet
That's a Behemoth down there. Now things are interesting because of his
devastating Meteor Counter. There are several ways to deal with it. You can
hit him with extreme power moves (e.g., Shock) and hope that he won't counter
before you kill him (or that the counter won't kill you). You can disable his
counter by Silencing him with one of the white mages or with Soul Blade on the
Butterfly sword, then killing him with Holy, summons or Thievery. You can
avoid the counter entirely by using Counter and Eye 4 Eye yourself, (along
with Beast Killer, MP Attack, Distract, Auto Regen and whatever else you can
afford) and then just Defending. Or you can gamble it with Quina's Roulette or
Vivi's Stop, Break or Death. Actually the easiest method is just Soul Blade
with the Sargatanas (Petrify).
Lv 71
Type: Beast

Side quest: Mognet (Medium)
Reward: Protect Ring
If you head back to Kupo in Alexandria now, he will start a chain of
Mognet letters. You can get a Kupo Nut for every one of these that you
deliver. Moguta will give an Aloha T-Shirt for the first Kupo Nut you give him
in disc 4. The trick is remembering where each moogle is. I will give one hint
for each before giving the location. Note that, contrary to rumor, it was not
possible to do this quest in disc 3. Also at the Steeple is Stiltzkin, with
the final item set.
Stiltzkin item set 8: Moonstone, Ruby and Elixir for 5555 gil
Note: If you bought every item set, you get a Ribbon now.

effects from the enemy, not to cure harmful effects from your party. It does
cure Slow, however.

Esuna (Siren's Flute) cures Confuse, Poison, Sleep, Heat, Freeze, Mini,
Gradual Petrify, Silence and Darkness.
Power Throw (Bracer) makes Throw much more useful.
Power Up (Golden Skullcap) makes Chakra much more useful.
Tip: Soul Blade with the Masamune (Doom) will end almost any monster.
Note: If you go to the Rooftop again you can overhear another conversation.

Hint 3: Actually hair, not fur.
Solution: Speak to Ruby at the theater.
After getting the item, just bring it to Mognet Central to finish the quest.
Its location is described by the Reef chocobo at Chocobo's Paradise. (See
"Dead Pepper Treasures" above if you haven't found it yet.)

Side quest: Ozma (Difficult)

Reward: Ozma card, Strategy Guide (key item)

If you go to Chocobo's Air Garden and examine the thing on the smaller
island, you can fight the hidden boss. It's possible to do this as early as
getting gold Choco, but I've put the information here because you'll probably
want the equipment from Memoria before fighting him. There has been a lot of
ink spilled over this boss, mostly hype. I will lay out some facts. From there
you can put together your own strategy. Here's his information:
--Lv 99
Type: Flying
HP/MP: 55,535/9,999
Gil/AP: 18,312/100
Exp: 65,535
Weak: see below
Steal: Elixir, Robe of Lords, Dark Matter, Pumice Piece
Abilities: Doomsday, Flare Star, Curse, Flare, Mini, Berserk, Death, LV 4
Holy, LV 5 Death, Meteor, Curaga
--1. If you completed the Friendly Monster side quest Ozma will be much easier
because he will be hurt, not healed, by the Shadow damage of his Doomsday. In
fact he becomes weak against Shadow. Also, without the side quest you will be
unable to hit him with ordinary physical attacks. I don't recommend fighting
him without having done the side quest. Look at it this way: you can finish
the side quest in less time than it would take to prepare to fight him in his
stronger state.
2. Your characters do not have to be at lv 99. If you're an RPG player who
gets off on leveling everyone to the max level, that's fine but note that it's
not necessary. I fought Ozma at around level 50, jacked all his stuff over the
course of about ten rounds, then jacked his ass in about ten more rounds. You
can do it if you know what you're doing. His Dark Matter and Pumice Piece are
rare items.
3. His Doomsday can be easily dealt with by giving everyone Shadow equipment,
preferably Shadow absorbing. (e.g., Pumice Piece, Ninja Gear, Demon's Mail)
You can avoid LV4 Holy and LV5 Death by coming to battle at levels
incompatible with these spells. You can avoid Flare, Mini, Berserk and Death
with Auto-Reflect, but that's a lot of magic stones, and then if you bring a
healer you'll want to also give her Reflect Null. You may just want to take
these spells head on to avoid having to spend the stones on Auto-Reflect. All
the ailments that Curse causes (Poison, Confusion, Darkness, Mini, Slow, plus
damage) can be prevented except Mini, and all of them except Confuse and Slow
are curable with Remedy (preferably Angel's Snack). At the very least you'll
want to give Auto-Haste, Antibody and Clear Headed to everyone. That leaves
Flare Star and Meteor; These two just plain hurt. They may do over 4000
damage, killing your weaker characters instantly (but don't let this deter you
from using the weaker charcters.) He counters actions targeted at him with
either Meteor or Curaga. He counters more than half the time.
4. Now let me remind about the mechanics of combat: Ozma is about as fast as
an enemy can get, but you can still get two moves for every one of his. If you
have two commands entered before his spell animation ends, you get to do both
without interruption (though he may counter). But if you enter one then the
other while the first is going on, he'll get to go in between.
5. Since you can get at most two moves at a time, it is pointless to bring
more than two power characters. In fact it may be better to bring just one so
that the rest of the party can focus on support. Vivi and Steiner should be
ready even at low levels to deal 9999 damage per turn (Flare with Reflect X2
and Shock); Freya, Quina and Zidane can do it with training (Dragon Crest,
Frog Drop, Thievery). Since you want a party with a lot of HP, Steiner is
probably the default choice in this department but it's up to you. If you want

the power of Shock without having to stop to replenish Steiner's MP, try using
Darkside. It should do max or nearly max damage if you completed the friendly
monster sidequest.
6. You may want to bring a healer because Curaga and Life or Full Life will be
useful. The automatic Revival Flame of Phoenix may make the difference between
winning and losing. Or you can bring someone with more HP and just use Elixirs
and Phoenix Downs to heal. In any case Auto Regen is, as always, very handy.
7. Some recommend killing his MP with Magic Hammer to disable Curaga and some
of his annoying spells, but if you do this he won't be able to hurt himself
with Doomsday. This is also an investment of several turns which could be
spent otherwise.
8. Some recommend getting certain characters ready to Trance (with High Tide)
to improve their abilities in the battle. This may or may not be worth the
trouble for you.
