Total Depravity In our natural state every part of our being is effected by sin, we are by nature
children of wrath and cannot come to God on our own.
1. Genesis 6:5 - The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that
every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
2. Isaiah 64:6 - We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are
like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us
away.
3. Jeremiah 17:9 - The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can
understand it?
4. John 8:34 - Jesus answered them, Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin
is a slave to sin.
5. John 6:41-44 (cf. 6:65) - So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, I am the
bread that came down from heaven. They said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph,
whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, I have come down from
heaven? Jesus answered them, Do not grumble among yourselves. No one can come to
me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.
6. Romans 3:10-11 - as it is written: None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands;
no one seeks for God
7. Romans 7:18 - For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I
have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.
8. Romans 8:8 - Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
9. Romans 11:5-6 - So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace. 6 But if it
is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be
grace.
10. 1 Corinthians 2:14 - The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God,
for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are
spiritually discerned.
11. Ephesians 2:1-5 - And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once

the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedienceamong whom we all once

Unconditional Election In eternity past God unconditionally chose those on whom He would
set His saving love and bring to faith in Christ. This election is not based on anything in us for

then we would have reason to boast, but as it is we cannot boast. God loves us because He loves
us.
1. Psalm 139:16 - Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every
one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.

and those whom he justified he also glorified.
6. John 5:21 - For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives
life to whom he will.
7. John 15:16 - You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should
go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in
my name, he may give it to you.
8. John 17:6 - I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the
world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
9. Romans 9:16 - So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has
mercy.

called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach
him among the Gentiles

us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own

Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, according to the
foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to
Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.
15. 1 Peter 2:8b-10 - They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to
do. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own
possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of
darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's
people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

16. Revelation 13:8 - and all who dwell on earth will worship it [the beast], everyone whose
name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the
Lamb who was slain. (cf. Revelation 17:8)
Limited Atonement (Particular Redemption) When Christ died on the cross He paid for the sins
of the elect, namely, all who God would bring to faith in Himself. Christs death was sufficient
for the sins of every person but efficient only for those who believe.
1. Isaiah 53:8, 11-12 - By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his
generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for
the transgression of my people?...Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be
satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be
accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide him a
portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured
out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of
many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.
2. Matthew 1:21 - She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save
his people from their sins.
3. Matthew 11:27 - All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one
knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and
anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
4. John 6:37-39 - All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I
will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the
will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose
nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.
5. John 10:11, 14-15, 24-28 - I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his
life for the sheep I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just
as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.So
the Jews gathered around him and said to him, How long will you keep us in suspense?
If you are the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I told you, and you do not
believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, but you do not
believe because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them,
and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will
snatch them out of my hand.
6. John 11:51-52 - He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he
prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but also to
gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.
7. John 17:9, 20 - I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom
you have given me, for they are yoursI do not ask for these only, but also for those who
will believe in me through their word
8. Acts 20:28 - Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy
Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his
own blood.
9. Romans 5:8 - but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ
died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall
we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were
reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall
we be saved by his life.

10. Romans 8:32-33 - He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how
will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge
against God's elect? It is God who justifies.
11. 1 Corinthians 1:22-24 - For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach
Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are
called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
12. Ephesians 5:25 - Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave
himself up for her
13. Hebrews 2:10, 16 (cf. Galatians 3:7, Romans 9:6-8) - For it was fitting that he, for whom
and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of
their salvation perfect through sufferingFor surely it is not angels that he helps, but
he helps the offspring of Abraham.
14. Hebrews 9:28 - so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will
appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for
him.
Irresistible Grace When God calls His elect to Himself, He does so in a way that guarantees the
response of faith. All that the Father has given to Jesus will come to Him.
1. Job 42:2 - I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be
thwarted.
2. Ezekiel 36:26-27 - And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within
you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of
flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be
careful to obey my rules.
3. John 1:12-13 - But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the
right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh
nor of the will of man, but of God.
4. John 6:36-37 - But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that
the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.
5. John 6:39 - And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that
he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.
6. John 6:44 - No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will
raise him up on the last day.
7. Acts 13:48 - And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the

8. Acts 16:14 - One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a

attention to what was said by Paul.

he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
10. 2 Corinthians 4:6 - For God, who said, Let light shine out of darkness, has shone in
our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus
Christ.
11. Philippians 2:13 - for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good
pleasure.
12. 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 - But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers
beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through

sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our
gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
13. Titus 3:5 - he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according
to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,
Perseverance of the Saints God will sovereignly preserve all His children and will not let them
fall from His hand, a true believer will not fall away from God.
1. Psalm 37:28 - For the LORD loves justice; he will not forsake his saints. They are
preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.
2. Jeremiah 32:40 - I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn
away from doing good to them. And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they
may not turn from me.
3. Matthew 18:12-14 - What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them
has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of
the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more
than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of my Father who is
in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.
4. John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever
believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
5. John 3:36 - Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son
shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
6. John 5:24 - Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent
me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
7. John 6:35-40 - Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall
not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have
seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and

free.
9. John 10:27-30 - My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give
them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch
them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one.
10. John 17:11-12 - And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am
coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that
they may be one, even as we are one. While I was with them, I kept them in your name,
which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except
the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of
our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of
his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
15. Ephesians 1:13-14 - In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of
your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who
is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his
glory.
16. Philippians 1:6 - And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring
it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
17. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 - Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely,
and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our
Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
18. Hebrews 10:14 - For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are
being sanctified.
19. 1 Peter 1:3b-5 - According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a
living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that
is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are
being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
20. 1 John 2:19 - They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us,
they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that
they all are not of us.
21. Jude 1b - To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ
