Purpose of job:
To contribute to the achievement of British Council objectives through effective and efficient planning,
management, implementation and evaluation of My Right.
Context and environment: (e.g. dept description, region description, organogram)
The post holder will work as one of 7 Project Managers within the Egypts Programmes team which is
approx. 20 people, reporting to Head of Society Egypt and led by Deputy Director Egypt.
Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:
(including people management and finance)
1. Project Implementation & Evaluation
To plan, monitor & evaluate the high quality delivery grant funded Society Programmes:
To be responsible for the planning, implementation and quality control of an agreed set of project
activities at different stages of the project cycle
To be responsible for procuring and managing internal and external resources for specific activities
To work with Business Partners to ensure income targets are achieved and collaborations with
commercial partners are built into projects
To identify and report on risks related to project activities and to implement agreed action

To identify and implement improvements to project delivery and to share any successes and learning
points with other colleagues and teams
To be responsible for capturing and communicating the findings from feedback and scorecard on
project activities
To use scorecard questions to evaluate impact of each product delivered and to check appeal and
impact of agreed products delivered under plan.
To act as an expert resource for other project teams in advising on aspects of quality in the delivery of
their projects and events
Projects delivered according to aims, goals, objectives and scorecard targets within agreed timeframe
and budget using agreed regional project management methodology.
Project delivery is based on Equal Opportunity and Diversity principles and best practice
Risks are identified and reported to the satisfaction of the line manager on a monthly basis.
2. Relationship Management
To develop effective networks, strengthen the BCs role in networks, and exploit market opportunities in
order to advance the Programme / Project strategy
To maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders of projects, to enable effective project
delivery
To do this through effective relationship management through direct contact, high quality events, contacts
and exchanges.
A structured up-to-date set of relationships are managed and recorded in accordance with CRM
standards
Scorecard data on quality and impact of relationship captured and reported in accordance with
Country monitoring and evaluation schedule.
Media outputs defined in the Service Level Agreement with Marcoms team are met
Marketing approach and tools meet the impact defined in project and job plans
3. Team Working and Team Development
To contribute to the development of an efficient, flexible, creative and integrated Programmes Team,
which champions British Council values, meets all Performance Management and Professional
Development standards, works effectively with colleagues across all activity streams and builds effective
cultural relations between Egypt and UK in Society.
To proactively participate in the corporate Performance Management and Professional Development
system and keep professionally updated in related areas
To provide cover and support for Programmes colleagues as requested by Programme Management
Team in order to ensure that the Egypt Programme Team operates flexibly and efficiently
4. Financial & Planning and Monitoring
To plan and manage project financial plans (income and expenditure) for agreed Programme activity
ensuring appropriate budget monitoring and FABS reporting requirements
To ensure that exceptions for plans are reported in accordance with FCCF procedures
To carry out FABS duties in support of all Programme Team activities
1. Strategy and Planning

To support, Deputy Director Egypt, Head of Programmes Society and the wider team on the development
of agreed strategies and plans for project delivery.
2. Products and Services:
To support Head of Programmes Society to develop, deliver, publicise and evaluate regional & local
products and services. Projects and services are delivered within budget, on time and to agreed quality
standards. Media coverage is received, monitoring and evaluation (including Scorecard and Storyboard)
is carried out to corporate standards and methodology and reports presented.
3. Networks & Relationship building
To develop and maintain active relationships and networks as agreed with Head of Programmes
(Education, Society and Arts) and Director Programmes. Database of contacts developed and
maintained; positive feedback from networks and stakeholders.
4. Team-working and knowledge-sharing
To support the development of a successful Projects Team with effective knowledge-sharing between the
team and with Regional colleagues and UK sector team and stakeholders. Ensure full and timely
communication with team members, maintain and update any relevant internal collaboration spaces and
other knowledge sharing tools.
5. Resources management
Active management of project staff, risks and finances. The post holder will line manage one Project
Officer and should ensure PMPD processes carried out effectively. Monitor budgets/effective use of SAP
to satisfaction of Head of Programmes (Education, Society and Arts). Active participation in Business
Risk Management according to corporate guidelines.
Key relationships: (include internal and external)
This is a key role, leading on My Right which is one of the main society projects in Egypt External
relationships including the British Embassy, the Ministry of Justice, civil society organisations in Egypt and the
UK and with external consultants from Egypt and the UK
Internally, the post holder will be part of the Egypt Programmes Team and will be expected to participate in
other cross-office teams in addition to working as part of regional society team.
Other important features or requirements of the job
(e.g. travel, unsocial/evening hours, restrictions on employment etc)
Hours are variable according to business needs and can include evening events and occasional
weekends. The role includes regularly visiting contacts on their premises, representing the British
Council at external events from time to time and occasional travel within Egypt and the MENA region. On
certain days it may be necessary to work longer hours to cater for externally imposed deadlines. TOIL is
not normally given to managers except for weekend working or to compensate for exceptionally long
hours worked to deliver an event.
