Coimbatore cuisine
The local cuisine of this place is all about spicy food such as
sambhar, pongal, idli and rasam. Apart from the South
Indian food, you can also find here a great number of
options for Chinese as well as Continental food. Kalakki,
which is an egg variety is one of the famous food item found
here. Amongst sweets, Mysore Pak forms a major dish here.
Dhal rice, which is considered as a starter is also found here.
Arisi paruppu is a type of rice which is a mix of thoor dal
and rice and is highly rich in protein is only found in
Coimbatore. Most of the people in Coimbatore only
consume organic foods such as Ginger honey, ponni rice,
coconut oil, turmeric powder, curry leaf etc. here.
Coimbatore culture
Essentially, the city of Coimbatore is a traditional city with
a blend of cultural confluences received from Kerala,
Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. All the Tamil and Kerala
festivals are celebrated here with great fanfare. A prominent
festival that is celebrated here is the Mariamman festival,
which is celebrated only in Coimbatore and is also a local
