VISION

HISTORY OF BARANGAY COGON

The name Cogon was derived from the name of the plant belonging to the
grass family. Its first name was cocogonan meaning grassland.
Cocogonan was first inhabited by Gubateos who stayed after fleeing from
the moro raids in the poblacion and other places. The place was such a refuge
because they were concealed by the high and abundant cocogonan.
Cogon had been a sitio of barangay Tiris and it became an official barangay
only in the year 1914.
The first Teniente del Barrio is Barjildo Etabaya. Barangay Cogon is located in
the northern portion of the poblacion bounded by the barangays of Tiris on the east,
San Ignacio on the North, Cota na Daco on the West and Gubat bay in the South. Its
area is 137.50 hectares. It is located in the coordinates 12561.5 North latitude
1240725.25 East longitude.
Its projected population in 1998 was 1,100 computed from a growth rate of
4.29 per the total number of families during that year was counted at 218. The
major occupation of the household head was laborer.
Like any other barangay in the municipality, barangay Cogon experienced a
type 11 climate with a dry season in the months of April to August, and a
pronounced maximum rainfall from November to February. The average rainfall is
6.65mm, while the highest recordings occur in the month of February at 14.3mm,
and the lowest is in the month of May. The mean temperature is 37.24 degree
Celsius.
Fishermen from the barangay catch from the Gubat bay surrounded by the
Barangays of Pinontingan, Panganiban, Ariman, Buenavista and Rizal. The estimated
average catch from this bay is about 43.15 metrics.

IPM is a system that maintains the population of any pests at or below the
level that causes damage or loss, and which minimizes adverse impacts on society
and environment, thats why using pesticides are not advisable.
Pesticides can be used only in IPM program when it is only a last resort and of
course in a manner of legal.
Pesticides are used to be used when there is no risk to environmental
damage or when benefits outweigh the risks.
Use pesticides only when other control practices arent available, economical,
or practical.
In IPM program using of chemical pesticides are not totally advisable because
when it is always use in crops; the pests becomes more resistant to it, and IPM
program biological control is suitable.
