Greetings,
We are a month into Sunday School, Youth and Adult Bible studies and
growing in Gods Word. I read the following devotional from Martin
Luthers Daily Devotional Faith Alone, and would like to share it with you
as food for thought this month.
Satan is upset when the truth of the gospel is taught. He
uses various
methods to distort the Word and keep people from hearing it. In
the early
church, a number of heresies appeared. One claimed that Christ
isnt the
Son of God. Another claimed that he isnt Marys son. In Basils
time, some
denied that the Holy Spirit is God.
We have examples of Satan snatching away Gods Word in
our own day.
When I and my followers began to preach the pure message of
the gospel, many
people arose who were against Gods Word and his work in the
world. Of course,
none of the other temptations lessened. Satan keeps on tempting
people to commit
sexual sins and other terrible crimes because he doesnt want
people to believe
in what God says and does. But the church and Gods people
should regard
Satans attacks on Gods Word and work as especially dangerous.
This is how Satan deceived Adam and Eve. They lost their
trust in God
and no longer believed what he said. Instead, they believed

Satans lies. When

Satan deprives people of their trust in God, its not surprising
that they become
proud and despise God and other people. Eventually they will
turn to adultery,
murder, and so on. Letting go of Gods Word is the root of all
temptations. It
results in the destruction and violation of all Gods
commandments. Unbelief
is the source of every sin. If Satan is able to tamper with Gods
Word or snatch
it out of peoples hearts, he will achieve his goal people will no
longer believe
in God.
Some people are like seed along the path, where the word
is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes
away the word that was sown in them.
Mark 4:15
Lets continue to hang on to Gods Word and trust that Father God knows
best and wants the best for us, His children by grace through faith in Jesus
Christ.
Blessings,
Pastor Bob

OCTOBER NOISY OFFERING!

We will be taking up our noisy
offering on Sunday, October
18th, for Operation Christmas
Child.
Thank you for your
support and your generous
donations!

We had a great kick off Sunday!! There were 50

kids in attendance. It is my prayer that the Lord will
touch the lives of these children and send more our
way to teach. We are starting off the year using the
Faithweavers program that we used last year and
then will break off into the Dave Ramsey
curriculum as part of our Jubilee. If anyone has any
questions or concerns about our Sunday school
program please do not hesitate to come talk to me or
give me a call.
Thank you

The Youth Group has

gotten off to an amazing
start!
We have more
than 20 young people
actively involved and we see plenty of room
for more!!
We have our annual ditch
cleaning day scheduled for Sunday,
October 4th . We will be picking up trash
along two roads here in Rice then returning
to SOTP for a bonfire and pizza party.

Following our party, we will be painting the

picnic tables here at SOTP that are much in
need of some TLC. We are so incredibly
grateful that we have such committed and
amazing, fun young people to work with
and we know that we will have a fabulous
year of growing in knowledge and
relationship with our Lord as well as
gaining a newfound strength among our
group.

Happy Fall to ALL!!!

As I begin to type this, we are surrounded
by the fresh crisp morning air of Fall. The
leaves have only thought about turning their
God given colors and the Church year is off
and rolling! Oh so much to do to get back on track! I just love
schedules...it seems things flow so much better when we have time
slots! Do you find yourself waiting for school to start just to get things
back to normal too?? Aah, I said the Sunday School year is off to a
great start! We had 50 students on the first day and look for those
numbers to grow. The Youth room was bursting at the seams with
youth ready to get into Gods word on $$$$. This Jubilee celebration
we are planning is such a wonderful gathering of all who can have
financial freedom!
We also have study groups that have restarted for the fall. Please
check them out in the bulletin and consider joining one, remember
things go so much better when we have a plan, well God's plan for us
is to be in His word learning and growing spiritually as we get older
and so I ask you to save a time slot to be in His word! If you are a
leader and order materials, please talk to me prior and let me know
what it is you need so that when the vouchers come through, I know
what they are for and who is using what material. This way it can be
made aware if the study is in our collection to be reused.
This month we also will have a social event with ice-cream and the
fixings for all who have given of their time to help the church body
flow. If you have lead a small group, taught Sunday School, or have
given aid to the Youth Group, or maybe been involved in planning
and helping with VBS, please join us so we can say Thank you with a
sweet treat! This also is for those who have helped in the worship
team area and the service team area. Again there is a sign up sheet
in the narthex so we know how many to plan for! Please join us!!
We have 3 FPU classes going on right now, study between
services, and all Sunday School classes are working for financial
freedom! The classes are giving out so many tools to help those of all

The Call Committee has reached the next

phase in the call process, we have 2 names
collected
from
the
congregational
nomination box to send in to the District
Office, they will begin the process of
collecting more names to send to us,
approximately within the next 6-8 weeks
we'll have that information. From that point,
we'll have to narrow the list of names down
to just a few to begin the next steps of
preparing for interviews. The Call
Committee would like to ask you all to be in
prayer alongside us in this process. We need
the prayers of the entire family to gracefully
walk out this journey, to hear the Lord's
voice and to be obedient to His plans. Its
much more fun to pray with God than
merely to pray to Him. - See more at:

month! May you see His beauty of color that He has painted all
around you daily! And may His grace shine on these cool days to
make your heart warm! Blessings to you all....

You are invited to

quilting at the
church on
Thursdays, October

6:00pm. Everyone is welcome

to stop in and join us!

In Acts 6:1-9 as the
Apostles were in need of
others to help in the
ministry
they
encouraged
the
believers
to
choose
those who are known to be full of the
spirit and wisdom. In keeping with
this advice from scripture, Article 4
of our Constitution By Laws says,
The Board of Lay Ministry of the
church shall be composed of 7
communicant members (male and
female), and the treasurer of the
church, elected at the annual
meeting of the church. They shall be
people who have proven faithful to
the Lord and His church. They shall
also
have
been
communicant
members of the church for at least 2
years prior to sitting on the board
and shall not be ministry staf
members or employees of the
church. They also should be people
who attend worship faithfully and are
involved in ongoing Bible study and
a
committed
life
of
growing
discipleship. Members of the board
shall
serve
three-year
terms
established on a staggared basis,
and may not serve more than two
consecutive terms.
The SeniorPastor - Director of Ministries shall
be an ex-officio member of the
Board of Lay Ministry.
There are two spots open for
election on the Board of Lay
Ministry. They are currently
held by Keith Hacket finishing
his second term and not able to
be renominated, and Keith

Peterson finishing his first term.

Please pray that the Lord will
guide us to the people He wants
to fill these positions. As you
are led to someone, contact that
person to see if they are willing
to serve, and then submit their
name in writing and place it in
the nomination box on the
counter in the church lobby.
The nomination box will be
available on the counter
between September 13th and
October 18th. The congregation
will elect two people from the list of
nominations at the annual
congregational meeting on
November 22. Feel free to contact
any current board member with any
questions you may have.
Starting
Monday,
October 19th at 5:30pm,
Pastor Bob is offering
what's
called
Triad
Mentor Groups.
Triads
are groups of Three (3 men or 3 women)
who meet together for prayer, growing
together
in
their
faith,
for
encouragement, and mentoring each
other through life's ups and downs.
According to Matthew 18:20 there is a 4th
person in a Triad, "For where two or three
gather in my name, there am I with
them." Jesus, by His Holy Spirit meets us
as we gather together with other
believers.
On October 19th, we will
launch those who would like to be in a
Triad into Christian mentor groups using
the Bible based book "When Life Hurts."
There is a sign-up sheet on the counter in
the church lobby. Find a couple other
people who would like to join you on this
journey and sign up for your Triad Mentor
Group. For more information talk with
Pastor Bob,
393-4295.

Shepherd of the Pines Mission Statement: Connecting People to GodTo Othersand To Service
The purpose of this congregation is mandated for us by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as found in the words of the Great
Commission (Matthew 28), namely first of all to Go. To leave our walls of refuge, going into all the world, comprising of our families
and neighbors. We plan to achieve our purpose by identifying persons with whom we are particularly well-equipped to serve and reach
with the challenge of becoming Disciples of Christ.
Second, to Make Disciples or in the words of St Paul, To equip the saints (Ephesians 4:12). This is to be understood as helping
people to live the Christian life here on earth. Preparing and encouraging young and old alike to find and to use their God given gifts
and abilities for the extension of His Kingdom, and to grow in fervent love for God and for others.
Thirdly, to Baptize as commanded by Jesus Himself. As God reaches down to mankind with His means of grace, He would have us
baptize His people, bringing them into His family and Kingdom, granting to them life, forgiveness of sins, and eternal salvation.
And lastly, to continue steadfast in His Word, Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. A continued
zeal for the study of His Word, the Bible, is necessary for the growth of any Christian congregation. Thus, the Word of God will be
taught and studied in full measure and His Word shall be the rule and norm of this congregations faith and life.
To that end, our every effort and energy will be used in motivating, training, and putting to use our time, and talents and treasures
to Make Disciples.
