You must choose to either AGREE or DISAGREE with a statement below, and outline the
reasons WHY.
This will form your hypothesis (argument) and your 2 to 3 main points.
1. During the early years of WWII the war in Europe and the war in the Pacific were
similar.
2. The Blitzkrieg tactics used by the Germans in WWII became less effective later in
the war.
3. There was less public enthusiasm for WWII in Australia then there had been at
the start of WWI.
4. Australian prisoners of war (POWs) in the Pacific suffered more than the Soviet
POWs in Germany and Eastern Europe.
5. The Gallipoli landing (WWI) is generally regarded as Australias most significant
wartime engagement. However, some argue that Kokoda (WWII) is more
significant. Is Kokoda more significant than Gallipoli?
6. The contribution of the Fuzzy Wuzzies to the Kokoda campaign has not been
fully recognized.
7. Hitler himself was not personally significant. Any dictator could have seized
power in Germany at that time.
8. It was necessary for the United States of America to drop the atomic bomb on
Japan, as this was the only way to end WWII.
9. Indigenous Australian soldiers played an important role within WWI and WWII,
and have yet to receive adequate recognition today.
10. World War II is a turning point in Australias foreign policy which demonstrated
our need for a powerful friend despite our desire for independence.
