RestrictedBand
Summary:
TheNASAversionoftheLDPC7/8ratecode,shortenedtothedimensionsof(8160,7136),hasbeen
implementedastheforwarderrorcorrection(FEC)schemafortheLandsatDataContinuityMission
(LDCM).Thisisthefirstflightapplicationofthiscode.Inordertoplacea440Mspslinkwithinthe375
MHzwideXbandwefounditnecessarytoheavilybandpassfilterthesatellitetransmitteroutput.
Despitethesignificantamplitudeandphasedistortionsthataccompaniedthespectraltruncation,the
missionrequiredBERismaintainedat<1012withlessthan2dBofimplementationloss.Weutilizeda

Thesamefilterwasthenusedtooptimizetheadaptiveequalizerinthereceiveremployedatthe
terminusofthedownlink.Theexcellentresultsweobtainedcouldbedirectlyattributedtothe
implementationoftheLDPCcodeandtheamplitudeandphasecompensationprovidedinthereceiver.
Similarresultswereobtainedwithreceiversfromseveralvendors.

ResultsoftheSoftwareSimulationandHardwareEmulation:
