Teaching and learning

Remarks

activities/Scientific Skills
Teacher shows the students
pictures of variety of food.

SPS: Observing,
Experimenting,

Teacher asks:
- Do you know what is this?
- How does it taste/feel?
- How do you know
whether the thing is acidic,
alkaline or neutral?

Eliciting Idea
(10minutes)

Food with different tastes

Remind the students not to
eat the food samples.

Teacher tells the class that

todays lesson is about acids
and alkalis and they will do
some experiment on food.
Teacher divides students
into 4 groups of 5. Every
group is given some food
samples, 2 petri dishes,
litmus papers.

TS: Analyzing,
Relating

SPS: Observing,
Experimenting,
TS: Analyzing,
Relating

Teacher asks the students to

taste the food and feel
inedible things on their
own. 3 items for each
person only.
Teacher asks the students to
write down their
observation in the table.

Constructing
(10 minutes)

Instruct the students to

carry out the experiment.

Teacher asks the pupils to

predict the tested food and
the touch of inedible things
whether is acid, alkaline or
neutral substances.
Teacher demonstrates the
technique of dipping the
litmus papers and pH papers
into the food samples.
Allow time for students to
taste the food samples and

SPS:
Experimenting,

dip the litmus papers into

the food samples.
