EDGE STITCHES
The first 2 sts and last 2 sts of every row are knitted in garter
stitch.

However, gauge is unimportant

and this shawl can be knit to any
size. Yarn requirements will
differ if sizing up or down.

INCREASES
4 sts are increased on every RS row: k 2 (edge sts), yo, k to 2nd
marker, yo, k 2 (center sts), yo, k to 4th marker, yo, k 2 (edge
sts).

NEEDLES
4.5 mm circular needle (80 cm or
longer)

EYELET PATTERN
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2 (WS): Knit.
Row 3: K 2 edge sts, yo, k 1, yo, * k 2 tog, yo * to 2nd marker, k
2 center sts, * k 2 tog, yo * until 3 sts rem, k 1, yo, k 2.
Row 4: Knit.

5 mm straight or double-pointed
needle for binding off
YARN
150 m laceweight main colour
(to be held double)

or 75 m fingering weight

PICOT BIND-OFF
* CO 2 sts onto left needle, BO 6 sts *, rep from *-* to center.
Now CO 2 sts on left needle, BO 5 sts - the picot should fall
right on the tip. CO 2, BO 5 - this produces a mirror image on
either side of the center picot. Then * CO 2 sts on left needle,
BO 6 sts *, rep from *-* to end.

40 m DK or light worsted
weight contrast colour 1
200 m laceweight contrast
colour 2 (to be held triple)

or 70 m worsted weight

KERCHIEF
Using 4.5 mm circular needle and 2 strands of MC, cast on
4 sts.
Row 1: Kfb, k 1, kfb, k 1 = 6 sts.

Cut MC and join CC1. Knit EYELET PATTERN.
Cut CC1 and join 3 strands of CC2. Knit 3 inches (or 8
ridges), ending with a WS row.
Cut CC2 and join CC1. Knit EYELET PATTERN.
BLOOD AND THUNDER BO loosely
with 5 mm straight or doublepointed needle.
KVEN KAN SEIA BO using PICOT BIND-OFF.

FINISHING
Weave in ends. Block.
