I want to teach my students how

to live this life on earth,
to face its struggles and its strife
and to improve their worth.

Statement of Purpose
The intent of this portfolio is to provide and share experiences and ideas to those who will
undergo the same undertakings. Through the experiences written, some latest innovations
and strategies in teaching were shared. Their applicability will vary depending on whatever
and whenever it suits to the classroom situation. Some classroom problems were also
mentioned whether they are severe or not, they are somehow enriching experiences that
will guide and teach future mentors in performing teaching endeavors
This portfolio will serve as a tool for information sources.
Our Teaching Philosophy

To educate is to become a better educated. It is circular process that
improves with time; we believe the responsibility of educators is to provide students with
the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in academic, business and personal arenas.
Our teaching philosophy is based on the belief that education is a solution to many social
problems. Education provides the tools to make informed decisions, synthesize ideas, and
critically evaluate relevant issues and to enjoy life. Therefore pursuing knowledge and
working to improve our skills as an educator are among our highest priorities.
As an educator, we will strive to encourage excellence in our students and
ourselves. Course material should be challenging, interactive and relevant to current issues
and events. Students learn and retain more information if the material is presented in an
environment that is interesting and interactive. For this reason, we believe that using a
variety of multimedia including video, slides, and the internet, is an effective way to
complement traditional course lectures remains the foundation of the educational
experience. We feel that we can encourage students to seek new knowledge and explore
their own ideas by an enthusiastic presentation of both what is. And what is not known
about subjects. When appropriate, the classroom setting should be expanded to include
experience in the field. What better way to make the necessary connections among
biological concepts than by observing how organisms interact with their environment?
In our interaction with students, we will strive always to be respectful,
especially when dealing with differing opinions that may arise as product of scientific
thinking. We want our student to learn to think critically, not merely to accept our ideas and
opinions; our drive to pursue higher education was due in part to several teachers who
inspired catalyst for other people to pursue their dreams.

We all agree to the statement of our critic teacher that I will help children to develop their

but the problem is that they are afraid of showing it due to lack of confidence. They need
reinforcement in order to be motivated. In order for them to be confident, we, as future
teachers must develop and enhance first our students to be competent, self-determined and

It is the progressivism that we want to adhere to because we believe on the
progressivists point of view that the students world is the focus and starting point of
education. We are a firm believer of the statement Students are the key participants of
education. We will let our students construct new knowledge as they conduct experiment
or during activities and our role is to facilitate and guide students in order to make learning
active and democratic.

be? Why?

Why? There are so many

tools used by the students in
the school like ruler, pencil,
eraser, book, etc. Indeed, all
of them plays a significant
part in the students lives.
But if I were a school tool and
relate it to the kind of
teacher I would want to be, I
would choose a ruler,
because I want to guide my
students into the right
direction. However, I want to
straighten their lives so that
it would not be put into
waste. Obviously, just like a
ruler I want to give my
students a straight path
towards a better future.
Why? Table, chair,

blackboard are only some of
the furniture that can be
found in school likewise door
and window. But if I were a
school furniture I would want
to be a window, because I
want to give my students
something to look up
especially when all the doors
are closing on them.

The discretion of the teacher to have a separate time schedule and vicinity or place
where the students will have to perform their activities which requires demonstration of
skills was the teachers most effective classroom management because in this way, the
students full potential to provide the best performances will be catered, thus the teacher is
giving justice to her students as to their understanding and learning of the lesson.
In what area of classroom management was the teacher least effective? Which
supportive measures were not effective? Why?
As we have learned from our visitation in the school where we conducted our interview, the
teachers classroom management is with least effectiveness is in the physical environment
of the classroom itself because the whole class is composed of 55 pupils and that made the
classroom very crowded.
However, this cannot be attributed solely to the teachers management since it is already
out the teachers hands but to the proper authorities who must had provided the school
premise with enough classroom and resources to cater the needs of the students.
Suggest more effective ways for your answer in number 2.
The teacher establishes separate activities in a separate setting, like group activities
are being performed in other classroom apart from the lecture settings, with the proper
allocation of time to finish the required task or activity. A certain activity is given 40 minutes
for the students to comply the said activity.

Describe at least 3-5 characteristics of a teacher who can establish a
well-managed classroom.
One of the characteristics of a teacher who can establish a well-managed classroom is a
teacher with good governance. If a teacher has a good governance with her students as her
people and with the classroom as her territory surely she could be able to establish a wellmanaged classroom. Because as a teacher she has the power to rule her students and with
her characteristic as a good governance students will follow her most especially if she tell
them to maintain classroom cleanliness and organization so as for them to have a conducive
learning environment.

you.
The characteristics that I have at present that can make me an effective classroom manager
is being disciplined and time conscious person. These characteristics of mine can help me in
becoming an effective classroom manager because if you know how to discipline yourself
you will become a good disciplinarian to your students and to your classroom. If you are a
time conscious person you can come to school ahead of time and prepare the things that
you will need in your class especially if you will going to conduct an activity so that time
would not be wasted. Moreover, you can also come on time to check and instruct or help
your students in making the classroom well-cleaned and well-organized.

The characteristic that I have at present that can hamper me in becoming an effective
classroom manager is that I easily get nervous especially when things went wrong. I can
overcome this characteristic by being confident in everything that I will do and if things went
wrong most especially if things didnt turned out to what I expect it to be I will just remind
myself to stay calm and find an appropriate solution that will solve the problem.

A disciplinarian kind of teacher can establish a well-managed classroom by setting a rules
and regulations with the approval of all students. Rules and regulations that are observable
and it must be followed by the students as well as the teacher. A disciplinarian without
harming the students physically, emotionally and psychologically; moreover, a disciplinarian
that is patient and has a friendly approach so as to avoid fear and hesitation from the
students.

A teacher who is committed enough to his or her profession can have a well-managed
classroom since he will not settle on just a poor performance of his students. He will not stop
seeking ways and strategies just to make sure that his students arrived at the
understanding of every lesson presented. If a teacher could not manage well of his
classroom, then there will be no longer learning to take place on the part of his students.
Also, a teacher who is sensitive to the needs of his every student and a teacher who has a
strong determination who will never be swayed in giving his policies in the classroom in
order to establish order that will eventually result to the learning of the students.

the students or any individual that I expected to perform his duties, I am very particular its
fulfillment unless they would say that they cannot fulfill it on time. I get irritated easily when
the task I have expected and that they promised to, was not accomplished because for me,
if you cannot do it after all, then dont make any promises.
This I think should be changed. I should be more patient to my students and will have to
learn to be considerate to them because not at all times that a person is positively inclined
to something, therefore, I will give them enough time but in the same manner, I will set a
specific time frame for them to pass the specific activity for them not take their work for

manager are; having humor in our discussion. Secondly, I am giving considerations when it
comes to my students reasons why sometimes they are absent. I am asking their reasons

manager is being impatient. I am easily irritated and easy to angry. Maybe I can overcome

between the school and the communities, particularly those that will help attain curricular

Community Tour Observation Report
Name of the School Observed: Escalante National High School

School Address: Brgy. Alimango, Escalante City, Negros
Occidental
Date of Visit: August 23, 2013
Locality of the School

The school is located along the national road heading to the
RORO Port linking the province of Negros to the
province/island of Cebu.
Its neighboring community composes of residential
houses which are converted into boarding houses that cater to
the needs of the students coming from far places like
Molocaboc Island.
There was the historical landmark of the The Fist,
the 3-fist statue/structure which symbolizes and in honor for
the death of the persons who were killed in the ill-fated
Escalante Massacre on September 20, 1985, who died in
defending for their rights and for the freedom for themselves,
their families and for the whole nation.
Some government institutions can be found in the
community like the City Health Office, City Library, Post Office,
Shopping Center, Senior Citizens Pavillon, Public Market, City
Hall, Police Headquarters, City Hospital and Coliseum. NGOs
are the PYAP and other youth organizations. The thrusts of this
NGOs is the assistance during the citys activities like taking
part of their designation on different tasks in those activities
like tree planting and coastal clean-up.
Issues/Concerns/Problems of the Community

The main issue of the community that bothers the most is the
problem on dengue fever which affects 30 individuals in the
barangay. Traffic condition was okay and there was never a
problem with it as well as the pollution. Peace and order was
also good, though there was some cases of verbal conflicts
among the residents but was settled thereafter. The problem
on juvenile delinquency was of minor cases only like the thief
of some household animals, but were also properly addressed
and fined. The security for children was catered through the
deployment of barangay tanods in assisting the schools during
the end ofclasses, assisting the students in crossing the
streets safely to home.
The political climate was safe and there was no
violence because there was loyalty on the same party.
Water supply was provided by the barangay free of charge and
the residents will have to shoulder only for the maintenance.
Electricity service is the same with the neighboring cities and
municipalities in the province which is provided by the
VRESCO.

Community/Assistance/Service Given by the School

The school provides assistance to the community through the
participation in different activities namely: tree planting
activities, mangrove planting, coastal clean-up, and fiesta
celebrations. The different tasks were assigned to the different
teachers with their students participating like the Senior
Scouts and the CAT officers of the school with the supervision
of an in-charged teacher.
The teacher served as a resource person in some
activities or programs as guest speaker on certain issues, with
the designation or order from the principal.
During the town celebrations, the schools Drum and
Bugle Corps is participating so as the different programs/class
in school, specifically the SPA Class which is assigned to take
care of the literary and musical activities and programs.
The teacher served as role models, portraying good
conduct to the students and to the community as a whole.
The school took participation in community projects
like the construction of the canopy to serve the neighboring
community most especially the students.
Our Analysis
Suggest new what ways by which the school can creatively use the resources of
the community.
We suggest to have field trips because the city has a museum that may provide
insights and knowledge on the citys history, products, culture and the early inhabitants
from the earlier times. We also suggest to utilize the city coliseum as much as possible for
the activities and events where the school is required to perform. It is good for the students
to have an exposure to their community resources because there is always learning when
they have actually experienced it.
How can the school address the issue/concerns and problems of the community?
The problems and concerns and issues of the community can be addressed by the
school through its participation in the different activities. The school can hold symposiums in
helping the community to be aware on how to lessen their vulnerability on dengue fever.
The school can provide tips on how to maintain cleanliness at home and lessens the cases of
dengue through conducting meetings to the PTA/PTCA at schools.
What possible linkages can the community and the school have?
The possible linkages that the community and the school have are brigadaeskwela,
tree planting, coastal clean-up and mangrove planting. During fiesta celebrations, there is
parade and there are drummers coming from the school and according to the OIC, teachers
are in charged for the sports activity. CAT officers and SSC officers are also involved in the
activity, and SPA class are in charged for the musical and literary activities. There is also
DepEd Night during fiesta.
Our Reflections
How did you feel while you were going around the community? What things did
you learn that you might have taken for granted before?
As we go around the community, we feel a sense of belongingness even though we
were new and strangers on that place. It is because the people there were very
approachable and we received a very warm welcome from them. The things that we learned
that we might have taken for granted before was the fact that there were people who gave
their lives for the sake of their lands, of course as a student living in urban areas, we did not
fully realize about human passions can do such things as giving their own lives.
As a future teacher, what do you think will be your role in the community?
As a future teacher, we think we will be an adviser as well as a surrogate parents to
our students as well as to the community through making them aware of the things they
ought to do and ought not to do. Giving them advices even on simple activity or task and
providing them choices on what to employ in terms of materials so as to produce better if
not the best results of their required task.
How will you encourage more community participation among teachers and
students?
We will encourage more community participation among teachers and students by
joining the activities conducted by the community most especially during fiesta
celebrations, so as to enhance the participation and values and attitudes of the students in
which the teacher must also serve as a guide and a trainer before and during the said
activities. Moreover, joining on the activities conducted by the community will show that
students abilities are not only limited in indoors but it can be also useful during outdoors.

Our Analysis
From the responses of the teachers, what conclusions can you make about the
knowledge that a global teacher should have?
v Based on what the teachers said, to be a global teacher, one should have the knowledge
on the different approaches and methods in delivering the lesson to the students. So as to
facilitate their understanding and learning. This knowledge on the methods sand
approaches of teaching must go hand in hand with the teachers knowledge on how to
utilize the modern technologies that aid in the best learning of the students.
From the response of the teachers, what conclusion can you make about the skills
that a global teacher should have?
v Based on what the teachers said, to be a global teacher, one should know how to
manipulate the modern technologies and be good in this ICT tools in teaching the lesson.
This skill must be applied inside the classroom as long as it is appropriate in the lesson so as
to be an effective global teacher. A global teacher should also possess the skills such as oral,
good written and communication skills because these are the basic and main skills that the
teacher should have so as to deliver the lesson effectively.
From the response of the teachers, what conclusion can you make about the
values that a global teacher should have?
v Based on what the teacher said, to be a global teacher, one should impart values like
being open minded, flexible, able to adjust to new change and challenges, patience, love
and compassion so as to be an effective global teacher. These values must be observed by
a teacher at all times so that students will develop a sense of respect and eagerness in
listening to the discussion.

In these moderntimes,we cannot deny the great influence of modern technologies in our
lives, much so with the way of our living, both the young and adults alike. With the advent of
these modern technologies, we were able to do our tasks more easily. Thisalsomade a very
great impct to education; because of these trends in teaching, we also allow ourselves to
grow. We are no longer stagnant to the traditional methods.

Modern times paved us the way for different technological advances that prevent to be very
helpful in our everyday living. Different technological advances created a new trend to
satisfy our thirst for modernism and high-tech living. With these new trends, our educational
system is also coinciding with this making learning more advanced through the use of
modern devices.
The most common (and I think the most important invention in the 20 th century) is the
computer. During those times computers are only used for computing and storing data, but
right now having a computer and knowing how to use it is just as necessary as having to put
a food on the plate for your dinner! Computers proved to very helpful and useful for
education that integration has been the topic during seminars and workshops and how can
we utilize it to help our students face the world surrounded by modem technology.
It is true that technology has its plus and minuses. Others may also say that because of
technological advances, we are all teaching our children to become lazy and just depend on
the computer. Yet let us accept the fact that time has changed, our times are evolving and
we could no longer apply what we have learned in the previous years to the generation of
today. We should go with the flow. We just have to know our limitations in using these
modern technologies. These are made to make our life easier and comfortable. We are
human beings ad we are given the mind so we can manipulate things accordingly.
Moreover, because of these trends in teaching, we also allow ourselves to grow. We are no
longer stagnant to the traditional methods. We are now more open to new ideas that would
not just increase our students learning but also ourselves. As we open ourselves to new fad,
we can no longer feel outcast we are part of the modern world and we are now all ready to
face a more challenging role and that is to become the teacher of tomorrows youth. Why
would we keep ourselves inside a nutshell when we can explore the world? The world is at
our advantage, the world is waiting for us.
Furthermore being inclined with these technological advances, we must also know our
responsibilities. It is not every time that we have to let our students tinker the computer and
we would just sit back and relaxes knowing that that the World Wide Web or www can
provide the much needed information. We could not just do that. We are not teaching them
anymore. We are feeding them with information that is not anymore filtered if they teach
moral or ethical values. Modern devices such as computers are only a tool for learning. It is
not the one who will teach us. It is still far more different than having a teacher in front who
could explain the information being fed to these young minds. We just have to remember
that the best computer in the world in our minds. We, the teachers, dont just fed
information nor just teach these children the basics of addition and subtraction or the proper
use of grammar, we also touch their lives, we become a part of them, a part of their lives
that could not just be erases or deleted by just a click away. We remain in their hearts
forever.
Given these facts, we are now more than ready to call ourselves not just modern teachers
but GLOBAL TEACHERS. Because global teachers do not just use modern ways of teaching or
utilize modern devices for improved learning, but also has a heart a heart that tenderly
cares for every individual and a hand that gently holds every learners mind to be a great
contribution to the world. A student who is not just a product of modern world but can also
be considered a GLOBAL CITIZEN OF THE WORLD.
And now a GLOBAL TEACHER, creating GLOBAL CITIZENS OF THE WORLD, what else could
we ask for more?

A deeper understanding of the rights, duties and responsibilities f a professional teacher is
of great help when we are on the field. Those rights, duties and responsibilities will serve as
our basis and guidelines so that we will be knowledgeable and we will not be deceived by
other officials when it comes to our rights. We can apply our knowledge about the rights,
duties and responsibilities of a professional teacher when there are situations related to the
rights, duties ands responsibilities.
Our reflection
How do you feel about the policies and guidelines concerning teachers? How will
you respond to them in the future?
With regards to the policies and guidelines concerning teachers, we feel that it is really
necessary that we must be committed, affectionate, and serious in teaching students. We
will respond to them in the future by becoming a good person or citizen today so that we
will become a good teacher someday. We should also abide by those policies and guidelines
in order for us to become a good teacher and a good citizen as well.
What insights/realizations did you have about the demands of being a
professional teacher? How will you meet these challenging demands in the
future?
The insights or realization that we have is that, as a teacher we should always take
responsibility to sustain professional growth and maintain professionalism of our behavior at
all times. We should be also accountable for the efficient and effective learning of our
students. We will meet these challenging demands in the future by associating and learning
from positive mentor, joining a professional organization and having an extensive body of
knowledge about teaching and being a good decision maker to be able to increase student
learning.
What are your values and strengths that can help you become a true
professional?
My love for whatever job that comes my way is my greatest value and strength. For it is not
