TITLE CARD
"Give a man a mask and hell become his true self." - The
Joker
EXT. ARKHAM ASYLUM - NIGHT/RAIN
BATMAN sits perched on the rooftop. Cape blowing in the
wind.
BATMAN(V.O)
Hes waiting for me. I can feel it.
We HEAR an echo of the JOKERs maniacal laughter through the
rain.
BATMAN(V.O)(CONTD)
That laughter. It seems to never
fade. It haunts my nightmares. But
without it, theres an unbearable
quiet.
Batman acrobatically repels and climbs through a small
window, entering Arkham.
INT. ARKHAM ASYLUM
He throws a smoke bomb that causes the guards nearby to fall
asleep.
BATMAN(V.O)(CONTD)
I can say that this is one of my
least favorite places. Theres
something thats never right here.
Suddenly, Batman is tackled by the brutish BANE.
BANE
Im going to rip your wings off,
little bat.
BATMAN
Bane. Im not here for you.
Batman and Bane fight.
BANE
Im working for Seor Payaso

BATMAN
Im feeling weak...
Bane picks up Bats. Suddenly, SCARECROW jumps out and
release a gas from his wrist.
SCARECROW
Feeling sleepy?
Batman passes out in Banes arms.
INT. ARKHAM OFFICE
Batman awakens, restrained on the floor, to the laughter of
the Joker.
BATMAN
JOKER!
JOKER
Hi there bats. Im glad to see you
finally decided to wake up from
your little nap.
Bane and Scarecrow stand to the corner of the room, quietly.
As Batman scans the room, he sees a black broken mask
sitting on the desk.
BATMAN
Where is he? Where is Robin?
JOKER
Oh, I set the little bird free. You
know you cant expect to keep pets
forever.
BATMAN
I swear if you hurt him, Ill...
JOKER
You seem rather tied up at the
moment.
Joker laughs hysterically.
Batman struggles to get out of the restraints but finally
gets free.
He grabs Joker against the wall.

BATMAN
Where is he? What have you done
with him?
JOKER
Hes gone. Hes flying off to a
better place.
Batman throws the joker against the wall.
BATMAN
I wont let you get away with this.
Bane gets angry and fights and restrains him once again as
the Joker continues to laugh.
Scarecrow lightly sedates Batman.
Blurry eyed, he see a sihoutte of a woman walk in. Its
HARLEY QUINN.
HARLEY
Are you alright, Mr J?
Suddenly the world begins to shake away chaotically. The
walls seem to melt revealing the "real world."
On the wall it reads Kharma Institution. The dark walls of
Arkham become white and sanitized.
INT. KHARMA MEDICAL OFFICE
Harley Quinn suddenly become the beautiful Dr Quinzel.
The Joker is suddenly transformed into DR JOSEPH CARR as
seen on his medical coat. He sits across a table from
sedated BRUCE WAYNE.
Bane is now PEA, a large and friendly Hispanic orderly
working for Kharma Institution.
Scarecrow, now DR CRANE, a small orderly with a straw hat,
sedates Bruce Wayne, as he is retrained in a straight
Jacket.
Bruce, borderline paralyzed, wears a paper mask of Batman.
DR JOSEPH CARR
Bruce, listen to me. Can you hear
me?

DR CRANE
I gave him 12 CCs. He can hear
you, but it will be a hard time to
get him to move.
DR QUINZEL
Dr J, is he going to be alright?
DR JOSEPH CARR
Ive never seen him have an episode
like this.
PEA
Is it because of the bird?
DR QUINZEL
What bird?
DR JOSEPH CARR
Bruce found a small injured bird on
his window...
On the desk, where the broken mask sat, we now see a green
shirt, that was used as a birds nest, with a small red
feather inside it.
CUT TO:
INT. BRUCE WAYNEs MEDICAL ROOM
FLASHBACK: We see Bruce softly grab a small injured Robin
from his window. He begins to care for it.
As time passes, the bird flies throughout his room, finally
healed.
Dr Joseph Carr approaches the room door.
DR JOSEPH CARR
Its time Bruce. We have to let
Robin out.
BRUCE
Ill never let you hurt him. Hes
family.
Suddenly Alfred shows up with a birthday gift in had.
He shakes the Drs hand.
ALFRED
Any improvements?

DR JOSEPH CARR
Hes grown very attached to the
robin. He thinks its a person. The
dissociative personality disorder
is becoming more severe, Im
afraid.

Alfred looks through the door and sees Bruce jumping around
from his bed wearing the Batman paper mask.
ALFRED
Why cant you take the mask off?
Seeing him with it on, just breaks
my heart.
DR JOSEPH CARR
Im afraid taking the mask from
him, we could lose him completely.
ALFRED
After all these years, I thought
things would have changed.
Alfred just looks on in sadness and hands the gift and card
to Dr Joseph Carr.
ON SCREEN:
Closeup on birthday card
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
FADE BACK TO:
INT. KHARMA MEDICAL OFFICE
The medical team continues to stand around.
DR JOSEPH CARR
And last night, we removed the
robin from his room and let it fly
away. Hes been very violent ever
since. More so than the episode he
had with Edward.
DR QUINZEL
Poor guy.
SCARECROW
I think thats all youre going to
get out of him today, doc. Hes out
of it.

DR JOSEPH CARR
Ok. Get him back to his room.
Pea picks up Bruce, who is in an almost comatose state.
They walk out.
INT. KHARMA INSTITUION HALL
As Bane carries Bruce down a long hall, we see several
doors. Bruce, eyes open, sees a man drawing a question mark
on his window.
Below, on the door, the name reads: EDWARD N.
Bane finally places Bruce in bed, restrained.
FADE INTO: Bruces hallucinogenic perspective - Hes not in
a medical room but the bat cave.
BACK TO:
Pea walks out of Bruces medical room and we pull out to
reveal some other names on neighboring doors: CLARK KENT,
BARRY ALLEN, HAL JORDAN...
PEA (O.S)
Good evening Dr. Luthor...
