SCELSI Pwyll for Solo Flute GIACINTO SCELSI Pwylil for Solo Flute a iii 0173.5819 G. SCHIRMER, Inc. 71/3099 PREFACE The oeuvre of Italian composer, Giacinto Scelsi, born in La Spezia in 1905, numbers over one hundred compositions. It includes quartets, concerti, choral compositions and instrumental solos, duos and trios, some of which have appeared on the programs of the Venice Festival, Tanglewood, and the Saarbrucken and Como festivals. Of the work for solo flute, the composer writes: “PWYLL is a Druid name. The piece is so understandable as not to require any technical explanations. Music speaks for itself, of course, but to give it an extra-musical interpretation, PWYLL might perhaps suggest the image of a priest calling the angels at sunset.” 28 /V 22994 ° PWYLL for Solo Flute GIACINTO SCELSI J = 120 (1954) — p—sub.pf?
