INTRODUCTION
I. (Attention getter) As we all know, the display of fireworks and firecrackers is the
tradition of our nation, and it creates the feeling of happiness during the festivals.
But did you notice the dangers hidden behind the beauty of the fireworks
II. (Credibility) Every year during the spring festival I have seen people especially
children getting injured when setting off fireworks and firecrackers. And I also
witnessed the pollutions they caused in my city.
III. (Thesis statement and preview) I think measures should be taken to restrict the use of
fireworks and firecrackers because of the pollutions and accidents that it may cause.
(Transition) Lets start with the pollutions.
BODY
I. (Main Point 1) Setting off fireworks and firecrackers causes great pollution,
including air pollution, noise pollution and Solid waste pollution..
A. (Subpoint 1) The explosion of fireworks and firecrackers produces many kinds of
poisonous gases, such as SO2, NO2, NO.
1 According to the report of the environmental monitoring station in many cities,
during the spring festival the SO2, NO2, NO in the air increased to a level that
higher than the standard set by the law.
2 These gases do great harm to our Respiratory System, nervous system,
cardiovascular system as well as our eyes.
B. (Subpoint 2) Besides, noise is another pollution caused by fireworks and firecrackers.
1 The national standard of noise is 45 db, which is the highest level that human being
can stand. But according the data from the Environmental monitoring departments,
setting off fireworks and firecrackers may make noise of 125 db.
2 Such noise not only affects our daily life but also does harm to our auditory system.
More importantly, it may stimulate many diseases such as heart disease and cranial
vascular diseases, which is particularly harmful for the old.
C. (Subpoint 3) Except for air pollution and noise pollution, Solid waste pollution is
another problem that can not be ignored.
1 Just imagining whats left after the display of fireworks and firecrackers: scrapes of
1

paper and dust everywhere on the ground.

2 Such great amount of garbage is a great burden for the environment.
(Transition) After talking about the pollutions, lets go to the injuries.
II.

(Main Point 2) The explosion of fireworks and firecrackers lets out much power which
may cause fire.
A. (Subpoint 1) According to the city firework hall of Beijing, there were 194 fires caused
by fireworks, bringing about 2 deaths and 388 injuries. Severe fire disasters also
occurred in other cities, such as Shenyang and Shanghai.
B. (Subpoint 2)As for the injuries, its more common. On the first day of the new-year
Shenzhen Eye Hospital received more than 20 patients who injured their eyes when
setting off fireworks. In Shenzhen Hospital there were also more than 10 patients that
were the same case. Such cases also occurred in other hospitals all around the country,
and most of them were children.
III. (Main Point 3) I believe all the pollutions and accidents brought about by fireworks and
firecrackers can not be ignored, and measures should be taken to deal with this problem.
A. (Subpoint 1) On the one hand, government should do something to raise the public
awareness of the pollutions and dangers. Relevant knowledge and examples can be
delivered to the public through pamphlets, newspapers, TV and the internet.
B. (Subpoint 2) On the other hand, individuals should be cautious about fireworks and
firecrackers. Use them as less as possible, and when setting of them remember to be
careful to avoid danger
CONCLUSION
I. (Review of main points) Boys and girls, after I introduce the dangers and pollutions, do you
still enjoy fireworks and firecrackers?
II. (Appeal to emotion) Can you stand the annoying noise in the night after you have a tiring day
and want to sleep? Can you stand the smelling gases in the air when you are having delicious
lunch? Can you still enjoy a happy holiday if seeing your little brother injured by the
fireworks? If not, stop playing fireworks and firecrackers now and win back a comfortable
environment and a happy spring festival.
