Specific Purpose

To inform my audience about the advantage of using IBS in construction

Central Idea

By using IBS, the chance to achieve project success is higher than

conventional construction

Have you watch a video about a construction in Dongting Lake which is located at Hunan Province,
China where they built 30-story building in 15 days.
A. The entire component of building such as floor and wall has been made offsite and become a
material, which is precast.
B. Then the material is sent onsite to install on the building.
The method that they use is Industrialised Building System (IBS)
A. According to Izatul (2014), IBS can be described as the construction technique that involved
the using of prefabricated construction components that are manufactured in a controlled
environment, transported, positioned and assembled with minimal additional site.
B. Izatul (2014) also states that IBS project can be assumed as multi-complex task and project.
My Research Methodology lecturer, Dr. Norizan Ahmad always said that to achieve project success,
it must include cost, time and quality.
A. Our construction industry, which still uses conventional construction, is hard to achieve
project success as sometimes the project sum is over budget, the construction is not
complete on time or the material quality is not good enough.
But by using IBS, we actually can achieve the project success.

(Transition: Now let me explain the advantage of IBS in terms of project success)

Body

I.

Firstly to achieve project success is about quality.

A. IBS can classified into five common types based on structural aspect:
1.
Precast Concrete Framing, Panel and Box System
2.
Steel Formwork System
3.
Steel Framing System
4.
Prefabricated Timber Framing System
5.
Block Work System
B. IBS construction material is not different than normal construction material.
1.
They also use concrete as one of their main material.
2.
The different is that IBS component are manufactured by industrial
methods based on mass production in order to build a large number of
buildings in a short time at low cost.
C. In addition, they can add safety feature although many people are still curious on implied it.
1.
For example the construction in Dongting Lake earlier mention actually
can withstand 9 magnitude earthquake resistances although the method of
construct it like we build a building using Lego.

Conclusion

IBS can provide the best solution to be used to improve construction project in Malaysia.
Using IBS not only can get project success, also better product success which is functionality and
sustainability which is for clients requirement.
CIDB should play their roles on how to promote IBS construction method to the industry.
By doing this, many construction people will get the knowledge about the advantages of IBS
comparable to the conventional project and the effects of using IBS to the building in a long term
period.
